Swenson Park Golf Course - The Oak Course

The round was 4hrs and I walked so play was at a good pace. green are in very nice shape. overall worth driving 40 min. to play.

Finished round at 12:00 noon, snack bar was closed. Plenty of outside seating. Couldn’t even get water.

I've lived in the Central Valley for 30 years, but never played here until today. Had an early morning round. The course still has COVID-19 lockdown conditions, limiting the pro-shop to 1 person at a time, as well as having both the driving range and the putting green closed. No ball washers, no drinking fountains, no bathrooms and foam inserts in all of the holes. This was understandable considering the pandemic.

Course was in very good shape for a muni. Both fairways and greens in good shape.

The rough is...well....rough. Lots of gopher damage. The cart paths are also pretty rough and in need of repair. If you kept the ball in play however, you normally had great surfaces to play from.

Sand traps were a mess, but without rakes its impossible to maintain them.

Course is older, with lots of trees, which made it challenging especially where the fairways narrowed on the back 9.

All in all it was a great round for a very good price. Really enjoyed it.

Three booked the walking rate on golf now intending to pay an additional cart fee upon arrival. I was told the fee is $17 per player per cart. I was only given two keys. After inquiry, I was told they were short on carts. There were 9 carts in the ready position at 10:50am. I explained we were not of the same household. They "Were sorry". Further, I was told the cart rate was per person without consideration of single or partner sharing. If there's a genuine concern for physical distancing why was I asked to share a cart with a member of a different household? The salt on the wound was watching another player in our group with his own cart for the same price as me sharing a cart? After the round I asked again if that was really their policy to combine foreugn riders and charge the same price. I was explained that policy was universal throughout the valley! I play at least twice a week from Roseville to Stockton. I know better!

Fairways are good and greens are smooth. Fresh sand in traps is extra tough now. Fun layout.

The course was in very good shape, again. The greens were a touch on the slower side, but still rolled true. I started at 7:40 so the greens were still a bit damp.

It was hot! I knew it was going to be hot so I not blaming anyone but myself for that!

I played mostly to do a fitness check on myself and my knee after a six month layoff! I never really expected to be able to walk 18 and I didn't!

Now for the good news!!!

After checking in 20 minutes early I noticed that the first hole was open and no one waiting on the first tee! So I asked the starter if he was authorized to allow me to start early in this open space! And he let me get started, which was great because I wasn't planning on walking very fast!

Next unexpected bonus...A woman in a golf cart was driving around the course making sure everyone was ok! This was when I was on the 9th hole. I wish she had come around again after I finished the 12th and decided I couldn't go any more. But I did survive to play another day! Probably somewhere that has a good deal including a cart!

It was a good golf day! I hadn't played this course in a couple years even though it's the closest course to where I live!

Pace of play was good but I have to admit that our foursome was the slow ones! It wasn't crowded and we walked it in four hours!

I found out that I still have my old demons especially the one that makes me try and hit a draw on the par 5 11th hole??? It would be a fun shot to hit... but I don't have that shot???

While I'm here I will complain about the 17 hole. I hit a perfect shot right at the flag and it plugged about a foot in front of the green! Surprised that it was so mushy there??? Hole in 1 denied..again!! LOL

Well kept course! Hard to find dirt with so much green! Good prices make this a must play again for me.

Another hidden gemI am very impressed with this course the upgrades from today versus a year ago are in credible their sand in the sand traps the greens are in excellent condition the rough it’s in excellent condition I’m very impressed this is quickly becoming one of the better course is in San Joaquin County

Course played well and is in great condition. New traps are awesome visually and a paint to get out of

Swenson has done a great job with the greens. Very nice and smooth not bumpy. Fringes are nice. New nice soft whitish sand. Fairways are in decent shape. Clubhouse is looking great and the new construction they are doing looks like it is going to turn the course into more of a gem!

The course was in the best condition I've ever seen it. It played almost like a country club.

I play this course frequently. After being closed for over a month, Swenson Park has re-opened in great condition, and offers an enjoyable experience at a very reasonable price.

The COVID-19 protocols are well thought out, making check-in safe and efficient. Food and beverage operations are still a work in progress, but I’m sure this will be sorted out soon.

Management has done a very good job with the course, and in adapting to the “new normal”.

The fairways were in pretty good shape after they shut down the greens were a little overwatered but they were OK.
