Cape Fear National at Brunswick Forest

The course is not long but the layout is very challenging. It requires you to manage your game with regards to risk rewards. Shot makers with command of distance an accuracy can score well. Course is well maintained and had good practice facilities. I will definitely play it again.

Great layout and conditions. Challenging yet fair. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens all in great shape. Greens were relatively fast and rolled smooth. Soft, fluffy sand traps. Overall excellent. Greens fees were a little on the expensive side, but worth it. There were a couple wet areas and it hasn’t rained in a few days, so some areas may not drain the best, but other than that, course was in immaculate shape. Highly recommend. I’d love to play it again.

Absolutely beautiful course. The houses in the area have ruined the scenery but still a gorgeous course.

The greens were well kept and roll true. Always enjoy Tim Cate design courses. Staff was friendly and the pace of play was excellent. Finished in just under 4 hours. Cost was $90 weekday for the round but, the club rentals were free. Good set too.

The downside: lots of houses that spoil your views but, don’t really come into play. Also, the holes are spread out especially on the back 9. Not recommended for walking unless you are in good shape.

7 handicap. Played from Black tees and shot 82. Overall good experience.

Starter was of virtually no help on this damp day. Didn’t wipe down clubs, cart and had to ask where the first tee was. Other than this single complaint the course was beautiful and in great shape. Bar staff at the turn and shop staff were all very friendly and I had the course almost to myself. Played the mud puddle Magnolia Greens the day before and even at half the price Cape Fear was still the better value. Very damp recent days with tropical depression in the area but this course handled water pretty well. Greens are Bermuda but still fairly quick and True and had recovered from aeration when I played. Water coolers weren’t out but probably related to COVID 19. I’m a 10 handicap and was very happy with 81.

There is nothing bad to say about this course. Great layout, GPS on the carts allows you to see any trouble, great practice area (complete with chipping & bunkers) and superb conditions. Yes, the price is a bit high but realistically it is in line once you compare CF to nearby courses. End of June and greens were not punched was a surprise bonus. If I had to choose 1 course to play the rest of my life then Cape Fear could be it.

This course has a great layout with some beautiful holes. It is long with a lot of carries and sand, so bring your A game! Greens are excellent

I dont normally do reviews but this is a great course. First time playing this course. Very friendly staff from the time you pull in parking lot untill you leave. Will definitely play this course again.

First time playing course. Entire experience was fantastic from the time our clubs left the car. Staff super friendly and knowledgeable; course was beautiful and well maintained. Just a well run organization. Highly recommended.

Greens are almost dead! Otherwise it's a very nice course but to me greens are the most important feature of a course. Therefore i wouldn't play this course again until the greens are improved.

Fairways and bunkers are in good condition but the greens need major help. Pretty course but i wouldn't pay over 40 bucks to play it again. Too many courses in the area with better greens to play.

Conditions were much improved. The course was in bad shape a month ago but it is resembling the course I remember again. Played it twice this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The course is always better when no rain.

I was the first one out on the course and was really enjoying my round until I hit the eighth hole. They had a grounds crew member mowing the greens, and like on any course I thought they would waive me through once they saw me waiting. Instead I waited on every hole 10 minutes for him to cut the greens. I finally just passed him on hole 12 because I wasn’t going to wait any longer. As a single going out for the first tee time of the day I would think that is assumed I’m trying to play fast, but obviously not with this crew. Overall the course was in great shape and had some character. Generous fairways, bunkers/waste bunkers, and slight undulations make this course fun, yet difficult.

Very challenging course. You could end up loosing a few balls. Loved the course. Greens are huge and very fast. They are planning to redo all their greens in June. This course is definitely a must play. Always very windy, so one more thing to keep in mind when planning your shots.

Loved the course and staff was great. Early season conditions to be expected.
