Best course on the Crystal coast!
Beautiful course right out in the country.
Great greens and challenging fairways..water on every hole!!
Facilities not great as clubhouse not built.Portaloo toilets. Friendly staff, beer for sake in pro shop...excellent value for money!
Pleasantly Surprised
Read previous reviews and wasn't sure what to expect. Turned out to be an exceptional golfing experience. Course was in good shape, greens were medium quickness and rolled true and the layout was excellent. Water on nearly every hole, but many times just for visual effect. When it did come on to play you had to hit quality shots to avoid. Without a doubt next time in the area I'll make a return visit.
Great course
Links style course. Awesome layout. Would play it again and again.
BUT, no public bathrooms for golfers, portapoties
No refreshments, used lawn signs for directions.
BUT spectacular piece of property.
Awesome Time!
This is a great course. I think the bunkers are pretty much washed out for the season, a muddy, thick mess (lots of rain recently)- but do not let that stop you. Somehow I didn't end up in the bunkers so it didn't bother me. This is the best course in the area, easily. Water on every hole, long and in great shape. The greens were great as well! I would play there as much as possible if I lived in the area. Don't be too far off the fairway either or it gets difficult fast! I love that place!
Great value
We have been playing this course every Oct for the last 5 years, and it is getting better each year. The greens are superb and always a good lie in the fairways. The ruff is cut a little too short to be much of a penalty, but there is a fair amount of water to compensate. By far the nicest course in the area ( and we have played them all) . The rack rate is a little pricey but Golf Now turns it into a good deal.
Challenging windy course
This course would be in excellent shape had it not been for excess rain. Many of the sand traps were in bad shape but understandable because of gushing rain recently. There are many traps on the course that helps with the overall design.Once they are redone the course will be excellent. The greens & fairways are well maintained & helped make our round enjoyable.
good shape for all the rain
A lot of rain the day we played, but course drains good. We played twice that week there. a lot of sand traps. We play there every year we go to that area for trip.
A love hate relationship but getting better
Bunkers need work but no big deal. Greens are always great. It's never busy and with some wind will test low handicappers. New owners and clubhouse coming soon. No matter what the situation, I have always loved this course. Also to the new owners PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE shorten some of the distance between holes. The fence blocking you from 8 green to 9 tee is REDICULOUS! a few minor tweaks could increase pace of play by 30 minutes easy.........but I still love the place.
Great course!
Great course for the money, bunkers could use new sand but the course plays great. Fairways are in great shape and the greens are perfect.
A solid option for NC beach golf
First visit to North River. Looks like it was meant to be a residential community course, but the community didn't develop. The course certainly did! Good course with plenty of water and sand (almost no trees....) A very entertaining round... Might well fit the "hidden gem" category. Worth a look.
Where is the sand?
Wonderful layout, challenging for ball placement and in excellent condition except the sand traps close to the greens where not raked. This course requires that you think about position and had several flags well protected by sand and water. Very enjoyable round.
Great course
Enjoyed my time on the course. Passing through from out of town.
The course is great for intermediate golfer
Greens and fairways in good shape, bunkers need work.
This course requires extreme accuracy
The majority of the holes have water and a bordering waste area that comes into play. The waste areas and bunkers were in poor condition based on the excessive amount of rain they have had in the last month. This course requires a better than average degree of distance control and you must hit the fairway. Any shots that are 30 yards left or right of the fairways will likely end up in an unplayable area and/or risk not being found.
North River
Excellent layout and course design. HOWEVER, the multitude of bunkers on each hole are lacking one thing, SAND! They have completely let them go and it is a shame. Great layout and design but they need to spent some money on their traps. Greens were great and rolled true. Staff was extremely friendly!
Outstanding course
One of the best courses in the area. Well maintained. Greens in great shape. Nicely laid out
staff unfriendly
Great golf course staff unfriendly and deceiveful.
Hidden gem.
This course calls for your best shots from tee to green. If you are striking the ball well, you will be rewarded; and if you're not, the course does what it should do, punishes you! Beautiful greens, perfect actually. Nice speed, true to the line and consistent throughout the course. First time in a while where I used every club in my bag, not because I wanted to, but I had to. If you're in Coastal NC and have not played North River, what are you waiting for!
Definitely play this course again!
Other than the bunkers needing some work, the course was in excellent condition. Course will make you think about placement but still "user friendly". Not many trees to get you in trouble but be careful of the water that runs along most of the fairways. Bring an extra ball or two :)
