Chisel Creek Golf Club

About
The popularity of Chisel Creek Golf Club in Landenberg can be partly attributed to the fact that it's easily accessible from Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. The natural features of the terrain were incorporated as much as possible, resulting in a layout that is more challenging than the scorecard would lead you to believe. It's seemingly short at just over 6,200 yards but you can expect a variety of elevation changes. The rough can be punishing and there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers as well as a meandering creek that comes into play throughout. Chisel Creek Golf Club's 14th is an especially tough hole that plays uphill and requires navigating your tee shot down a narrow chute. You'll be faced with a few blind shots and a few water holes, including one with an island green.

Disappointed
Crabgrass everywhere. The course has potential but I could not get into this one. It's a shorter course with a few par 4s that played over 400 (played from the back tees). I didn't mind the length of those holes but I never saw a course that would start the fairways at the 150 markers on longer holes. The pins were placed in some bad spots, as in right on top of mounds and a big slopes. I did like the speed of these greens. Greens have huge slopes in them and even a few two tiered greens in which the tier was close to 4-5 feet high, in which the pin was placed right on top of that. On a few occasions, if you didn't make the putt, even after hitting a good putt, the ball would roll right back to you. Not into that style of golf.
The staff was very friendly though, and pointed us in the right direction, as it was the first time playing this course.
Appropriately priced fun course
If you want to challenge your course management skills I recommend playing the back tees.
Overall the course plays very short with the exception of 2-3 holes. Pretty narrow driving targets, accuracy is paramount, it plays pretty short so taking a more reliable club is a good idea off most tees.
They protect par on the short holes with tough pin placements on undulating greens.
If you want to score well you need to pay attention to the pin placements, when playing aggressive slight misses to tucked pins on raised greens made for some very difficult or near impossible up and downs, aiming for the center of the green would have been a better approach for me.
Overall the course was a lot of fun and challenged my game plan. I think the $39 is appropriate for what you get, I got the $19 dollar golfnow special and was very pleased with the value and will be back to try a new tactic on some of the holes i misplayed.
Great Value
Walked the course at 7 am and finished in under 3 hrs. Course is relatively short, but a couple of the holes can be challenging. It was in good condition, not perfect, but great value for the money. Golfnow had a hot deal for $19 w/cart, but I always walk when I have the option. It does have some hills, so walking can be a little challenging if your not in shape. I think their regular rate for walking is $29, so that is still a good deal. It's out in the middle of nowhere.
Don't waste your time
The course itself is decent shape. The people there were fairly nice. The pace of play makes it unbearable. We waited 5-10 minutes on every hole just to tee off. It wasn't the group in front of us either, they just overbooked the day. There was a hold up for five groups ahead of us as well. We even tried skipping THREE holes to ge ahead of the back up, only to find more congestion after the turn. After 2 hours and 20 minutes to only finish 7 holes we called it quits.
Couldn't finish 7 holes
Either I chose the day to come that there were 6 foursomes of first time players in front of me or they overbook. We had to wait anywhere between 5-10 minutes per hole to play the hole. It was just horrible, we left without finishing 7, and the manager opted to not refund our money and guarantee we will never return rather than trying to encourage us to try again another day. Which led us to believe it is always like this.
What Happen????
This is one of my favorite little courses to play, but what the heck happen to the course? I had played a few weeks before and the course looked beautiful, but last Saturday the course was a total mess. Did their equipment break? Staff quit? Course was in HORRIBLE condition. Fairways were like first cut rough, nothing was cut really, it was a very disappointing round for me. Normally this course is spot on. I hope they turn it around because I have come to really like the course.
Best conditions in years!!
This course has improved a lot through the last couple years. It's has some bumpy cart paths. Great country setting with some tough holes.
Pretty good shape
Looks like improvements have been made.Cart path pretty bumpy in many places but looks like work in progress.
Great course great staff great price.
I love this course. It is short but such a fun layout. It is always a relaxed round and pace of play is usually great. One problem I have ran into lately is customer service at local courses but this is NOT ONE OF THEM!
Very good par 5 on the course
The course has some unusual holes. A good mix of short and long holes. The par 5's are fun and changing at the same time.
Great course and value
The course was in exceptional condition for time of year. Bunkers in great shape. Challenging yet playable for all levels. Only two blind tees (7&18) but staff can help you before you tee off.
Only down side is lack of liquor license. The food and setting were good and the course encourages BYOB (both on the course and at grill).
Enjoyable Course
This course was a nice one for the first of the 2014 season. I when with a a couple of friends and we had a relaxing and fun time. The fairways were excellent and the greens were in nice condition. Probably one of the easier golf courses I been too!
Great Shape
I really like this course. I play here at least 2-3 times a year and would recommend it highly. Staff are friendly and the course is always in really good shape. The course was really clean they do a great job keeping the leaves under control.
Undulations
Undulating fairways and greens made this course more challenging than expected.
Worth the play
Great condition. Well worth the trip to play. Greens were rolling beautifully.
Nice walk in the sun
My wife and I went out to play a leisurely round of golf on a nice sunny day. The pace of play was outstanding. We didn't have to wait and weren't "pushed" by the group behind us. All in all, is was a joyful event and we will do it again in the future.
Great layout, some challenging and narrow fairways
Great layout, some challenging holes and some narrow fairways. Sand traps in good shape. Greens in good shape However, fairways mowed long, patchy grass areas including around the greens. Distances only 150yd marker. Also, tee signs and scorecards had different distances.
Good course for the money
Chisel Creek is a good course for the beginner to intermediate golfer. The price is good. The difficulty will challenge that level of golfer. The course is keep in good condition. Fairways were in nice shape the greens were hard and fast but in very nice shape. My only "negative" the tee boxes were like rocks. Pushing the tee in took some real effort. If you are a low handicap golfer Chisel Creek will be a nice day out but not a real challenge.
