Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club
About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

Great course - great layout - great golf
This is a gem in Delaware. Anytime you can play here do so. The layout, elevation changes, and hold locations are challenging enough to test your mettle often - yet still give you a chance to make par better if you think about the shot ahead.
they dont build them like this anymore.....
You wont see many public courses like this one.. Its a strategic gem that requires every club in the bag.. Deerfield is an old fashioned tree lined beauty of a course.. You'll look at the scorecard and think its a short course... then you'll go out and play.. and experience the elevation changes and narrow fairways and realize this course plays much longer than listed. You'll need to play here a few times to score well since club selection can be very hard with judging distance on many of the uphill 2nd shots.. The course still has a private club feel and you are treated very nicely by the staff.. Last time I played here,,, there was a slow group ahead of us and the manager came out onto the course and gave me a 60 dollar voucher to come play again.. How nice was that? This place is one of my favorites in the entire Philly area... and I've played em all..
good course course with some nice challenges.
Course is set with challenges with some par 4 holes very long. It is the fall season so the biggest challenge was finding slightly pushed or pulle tee shots. The amount of leaves on the course makes it difficult to find the ball where under normal summer period would not be a problem.
Bring your A-game or a lot of golf balls.
This course is difficult for the average or below average golfer due to hills, trees, slopes and slippery greens. It took nearly five hours to play it on a weekday afternoon. Unless you get it for a great price, you might want to look elsewhere, especially when the leaves are falling.
Great experience in every aspect. Will definately be returning.
Challenging course with no lollygagging in front of you.
Nice public course
Would recommend, but there are not many fairways that are not sloped
Forgettable
Pretty average course. It was in decent shape, some of the greens were a bit rough. The layout didnt impress me as I found the holes meshed together too much. Other: The staff was friendly and the clubhouse was very nice.
A Challenge
One of my favorites. A mix of hole lengths gives you opportunities to put shorter clubs in your hand on some holes. Elevation changes do put a premium on club selection. A little pricey, but still worth checking out.
The elevation changes on this course make it play much longer than the score card reads. greens, fairways, and even rough is well manicured
Deerfield golf and tennis club is a great value. I would recommend to anyone. Two thumbs up!
The course is my favorite in the area
Deerfield is wonderfully maintained golf course ,the ungilating fairways are a great challenge, the greens are of average speed they could be cut lower but always well maintained , ,and the club house and resturant provides a beautiful setting for weddings, outings along with a great casual bar I give it a 10 +++
Hills, hills and hills
Once owned by the DuPonts as Le Vies, this is a shortish very hilly layout. Greens are average. Nearly every hole goes up and down hills with a couple not too severe blind shots. A fun course and you can score there if acurate. If you aren't the hills and trees will be a problem.
one of my top 5 courses in the area.
try to play deerfield a few times a month. always book on golfnow and pay at least half price or less. conditions are always favorable. course is quite interesting and a return player has advantages. several elevated greens and uneven lies .
A great rouund of golf
I hadn't played the course in a number of years (10 plus years)and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed playing there. The course was in great shape and the staff was very friendly and accomodating.
Nice, hilly course
This a very challenging course. Not many level lies. Not a long course, but the hills make up for the distance. Always in good shape.
The more I play this course the more I like it.
Seems like a stretch, but I played Beth Page(the green course) in the beginning of the summer, and I have to say, this reminded me of that a lot. From the tight tree-lined fairways, to the elevation changes, even the way they cut the fairways. Deerfield has a GREAT layout.
Nice challenging scenic course
Got a great deal on Golfnow! Seems like an older style course, which I like. Scenic and quiet setting with no houses on the course. A lot of elevation changes which can make some of the holes play longer or shorter than they look. Will play again.
