Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club
About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

An under appreciated golf course
I played this course a lot as a kid and was pretty intimidated by the elevation changes, blind shots and narrow tree lined fairways. Since I hit it straighter now and not as long, I really found the course to be one of the most interesting courses I have played in quite a while. If you like to shape shots, as I do (although not always successfully), then this is the course for you. We played from the white tees and at just over 6000 yards, the slope was still 135- plenty to handle.
Great course
My wife likes it because it's beautiful .... I like it because it's challenging without being downright hard
Excellent golf course
I loved this place called Deerfield. Its a great place to play golf. great people. i will be back there soon
Lots of hills!
Very nice course and in nice shape for late fall. Greens were lightning fast! Had a lot of interesting holes and lots of elevation changes. The staff and starter were very friendly and got us out early. I would love to play here again when the weather is warmer!
Side hill lies.
The challenge of this course is your ability to hit side hill lies. Almost every shot is either above or below your feet. It was a chilly day but it was Nov. 15th in DE and we were playing.
OK, but not a terrific deal unless price is discounted.
Very slow pace. There should be a ranger out on the course for weekend play. No reason for long rounds this time of year.
A great course with something to offer everyone.
A beautiful setting that give you every feature, from an easy par 3 to hills, curves, trees, up to long par 5. Something for everyone,.
Every game is a new experience ! From a beginner who gets to practice every possible stance to an experienced player who will be able to perfect the mechanics, this course is exciting!
Great shape, good challenge
Course was in excellent condition, staff was super friendly as well. Greens were incredibly fast and got faster as the day went on. Heavy tree areas with narrow fairways. Challenging elevation changes. Accurate tee shots are a must if you want the chance to score well.
Acreage that was meant to be a golf course
Deerfield turned out to be a pleasant surprise for 2 golf enthusiasts on a travel day from Washington to Philadelphia. The course had a challenging layout which exemplified its previous life as a private club. There were a number of blind tee shots but the target flags were well positioned to work our way from tee to green with confidence. For choosing it from the website we were not disappointed in anyway withe course and its amenities. The only negative comment on the day was that the rental clubs cost more than the golf... the joys of travel
Great Conditions
This was our second time playing Deerfield. This is a challenging course with the elevation changes including a 225 yard uphill par 3 from the blues. The fairways and greens were in very good condition and the course was fairly well marked. Reading the greens can be difficult as sometimes it doesn't break the way you see it initially. A 40 minute ride from the Philly S. Jersey area. Will absolutely play again.
great course check it out.
I had a great day at Deerfield, the staff is helpful and courteous. The course is well maintained from tee to green. I highly recommend this course, if you haven't played there yet, check it out.
Beautiful course in fantastic surroundings
I love Deerfield. I love the challenge of difficult lies and elevated tees and greens, and having got to the green, how hard is it to sink the ball. This is a fantastic course beautifully kept and maintained and the staff are all very friendly and helpful
Dislike the layout
Decent golf course but I dislike the layout. Simply far too many dog legs and blind shots, including blind shots into many greens. I do know many people like the course, just not my cup of tea.
Deerfield Golf Course
The course is always challenging and in great shape.
Course was in good shape.
Challenging course with lots of trees and elevation changes. Semi-private course with nice amenities.
This course used to be one of the best in the area.
This course requires much attention. The fairways, tee boxes, and greens were all polluted. There seems to be no course maintenance taking place at Deerfield anymore. It is a sad day and it looks like they are in fear of shutting down. Definitely not worth any competitive prices.
Challenging but great value for the $
Great course, they lost the fairway on #10 which is a par 5, had to move the tee box up to what would make the hole a par 3, but staff is great, course is challenging and a great value for the money.
VERY hilly, and doglegged!
The course was challenging, because it was nothing but doglegs and hills. Never saw as many 8'ft flag poles as I did playing here. Course had some bad spots on fairways and greens.
Horrible condition
This course has fallen a long way since being owned by DuPont. The greens and fairways were in horrible condition. The 10th fairway was dirt. This course looks like a hacker's course with the weeds growing in the fairways. Good luck getting a true roll on the greens. They were extremely slow and in need of serious work. I played this course when it was named Louviers and owned by DuPont. What a shame as the course layout with its sloping fairways and elevated green shots could really provide a great test for your shot shaping. It really could be a special course but it's obvious they put little money into the upkeep of the course. The amenities, while nice looking, are priced too high. They wanted $21 for a six pack of beers in the can. I politely declined. I will not be going back to this course nor do I recommend it to anyone. It's too tough for the regular hacker and in too much disrepair for a solid golfer to enjoy. Definitely not worth the money they charge.
great course
the greens were great and fast, fairways in good shape, and the course was all hills. loved it.
