About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

Golfer Reviews
Hilly
This not an easy course. Very hilly. Can’t see where your ball lands on a lot of holes. Play with someone who has local knowledge. Course washing good shape. Greens are true
Two Putting on this course is a miracle
Loved the course. I have played here for a long long time. The greens are not for the average golfer. Three and four putts per hole is more the norm for a 15 Handicap.
The tricked up greens are the only thing I detest about this course. The rest of this course is a GEM
Beautiful course, tough greens
Gorgeous course. Great facility and most employees were awesome . Starter seemed a bit upset with the world. The greens - esp back 9 - were VERY difficult with ridiculous “side of a hill” hole locations. Would play again just bc of the courses overall beauty, but the could make some greens a little friendlier
Great course
Recently started playing golf, end of last year and this was an amazing course. Challenging but rewarding with all the uphill and downhill. Highly recommend.
Challenging and fun
This course was great. The elevations were fun. One negative was you never knew how far ahead the people were ahead of you and a lot of shots are blind. They should figure out a way to notify you. The greens were in good shape for April and the fairways although a little hard were in good shape.
GolfNow MUST do better!!!
I booked my tee time on GolfNow and received no notification of the course conditions. The greens were recently aerated and had a good amount of sand dressing. Also, the back nine holes were closed due to some construction work. These conditions, had I known about them, would have made me play a different course. I don’t know if the blame lays with the course or GolfNow. Ultimately, I feel it’s GolfNow’s responsibility to know the course conditions and communicate them to their customers. What are we paying booking fees for?
I like the course, they have a great 19th hole, and all the staff are very friendly. My dissatisfaction is with GolfNow!
Hill Filled Challenge
A friend described Deerfield to me as a place where you will never have a level stance, which is absolutely the best description. You can’t simply aim for the center of the fairway or you will end up in the rough on many holes here as they are so slanted.
Many interesting holes, nice condition of greens and fairways. It’s a good test of your golfing skills. Definitely be back
Great Winter golf
Courses in great shape, pin placements were challenging, and the staff has done a great job keeping the leaves off the course and greens
Worst Round of the Year
I’m recently retired and play everyday, I have a home course but have played 4-5 dozen local courses over the last year also.
When we arrived we were told that we would have to play the back twice to make it a “full round”. It was stated the front was closed for maintenance. When I looked surprised the lady and man behind in the pro shop said “it’s clearly stated on the sight ya booked the round on”. All the GN sight stated was airation alert, nothing about closures.
The greens were unplayable, recently punched with large tufts of grass throughout, like putting on a waffle iron. Sand was unevenly distributed and not brushed in
At the turn there was a line, people with tee times scheduled as if all 18 holes weee open. Playing the round went north of 5 hours
Great course
Enjoy the difficulty all the time always in great shape and staff is always courteous and friendly
