Bowes Creek Country Club
About
Bowes Creek Country Club is situated on the western edge of Elgin amidst gently rolling hills. The golf course enjoys an idyllic setting, sprawling across lush farmland accented with stands of mature trees, natural wetlands, and rocky bluffs. The layout incorporates the natural hazards provided by the terrain but massive, sweeping bunkers were also strategically placed throughout for added challenge. Tall fescue grasses edge the face of the bunkers as well and the undulating terrain guarantees that you will come across a few uneven lies. The trickier elements of the golf course are balanced by expansive, player-friendly fairways that offer a little room for error. In addition to the golf course, Bowes Creek C.C. also boasts a comprehensive practice area with an elevated, 30-station driving range with target greens at varying distances, and putting and chipping greens.

Ruining a great layout
I have played here 3 times now. Let me say first I love the layout. Beautiful course with plenty to look at, including several majestic hawks and a very pleasing natural landscape. What ruined a good day was pin placement. I play to a 1 and more than a few were ridiculous. I played with my wife (a good player) and I have never seen so many pins placed on slopes that were completely unaccessible. Hard enough on a calm day but bordering impossible on a chilly 15 mph windy day. Other pins were tucked so far in corners AND on a slope it made for a very frustrating round of golf. Hitting the center of a green often meant a sure bogey. I love very fast TRUE greens, but these were pretty chewed up and having to putt over a hump to a pin placed on the slope just over the crest meant missing an 8 footer left you with a 15 footer coming back. As the Mrs said "Why would anyone want to come back here if you can't two putt most greens?"
Great Course
One of the best courses I played, its in my top 5, and I played courses across the country. Its a very fair course but challenging. I'll be back for sure. No blind shots. Some of the best greens I've experienced.
Wow, thanks for the excellent review! We are honored to hold a spot within your top-5 and hope to sneak up to No. 1 eventually! See you again soon.
Private Member Course
Seems to be major disconnect between course management and Golfnow on what is included with rates. Golf now implies no exclusions; however, course management claims max 1 round per non-written policy leaving non-members treated poorly. Call the course before booking to avoid unpleasant hassle if you want to experience the course.
We would like to learn more about your experience with us, would you mind sending us an email to BowesCreekCC@Gmail.com so we can chat a little more about it? We appreciate the feedback and try to make all notes on online tee times as clear as possible.
Bowes Creek, Beautiful lay out.
Great staff, Beautiful golf course, I know that it was a lot of rain and it's hard to keep up the greens in top condition but they were still good.
Mother Nature hasn't been too kind this year... Glad you enjoyed the track and we hope to see you again soon! We appreciate the review.
Great Layout!
I played the course for the first time this past Sunday afternoon and was impressed with my experience. The course layout is challenging and fair. We played it from the blue tees, a nice challenge with the slope at 138. There are a lot of elevation changes with the course laid out in front of you with no blind shots. The pace of play for a Sunday afternoon was good, we played in 4 hours. I would definitely recommend this course, I am looking forward to playing it again soon.
We're glad you enjoyed yourself and look forward to seeing you again soon!
Nice course of you like 5 hour rounds....
A 2:10 tee time and finished a little after 7:00. Only saw the ranger once on the front 9 and then he disappeared. A nice challenging course with very fast greens. Not a course for the high handicapper. I am not in a hurry to play the course again anytime soon.
You need to train your rangers on course control rather than just paying lip service.
We apologize that the pace was not quite what you expected. Please send an email to BowesCreekCC@Gmail.com to see if we may be able to get you out here again soon for a speedier round. We appreciate the feedback.
Disappointing.
I have heard many good things about this course. I found it very disappointing to find dead cut grass all over the rough. I would have to sift though the grass clippings to look for my ball. For the price that is charged, I would not expect to have to do this.
We're sorry that you didn't full enjoy your experience with us and would like to learn more about it. Please send an email to BowesCreekCC@gmail.com detailing your experience. We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for taking the time to review our facility.
best round this year
I love this course! Its beautiful, very challenging, fast, true greens. My foursome had the best golf experience this year, yesterday.
Even though we had to travel back to Chicago during the 5pm traffic, the general consensus was we would definitely do it again. That says a lot because the traffic and construction combo would spoil a lesser golf course replay.
We're so very glad that your braved the Chicago traffic to check us out, and we are even happier that this was our 'best round of the year'!
We hope to see you again soon (so you can have another crack at No. 12)!
Poor Conditions
I was really excited to play this course and had heard nothing but great things from friends that have played there before. I can't believe I paid 60 bucks for this course with the condition it was in. Every green was pock marked with divots. The rough looked like it hadn't been touched in a week and still had the grass clippings from the last cutting. Nothing better than losing your ball because you can't find it in the clumps of dead grass everywhere. For the condition it was in I would have a hard time paying $30.
We are sorry to here you did not enjoy your experience with us here at Bowes Creek - we strive to keep the course in great shape.
Please send an email to BowesCreekCC@Gmail.com so we can get a little more info about your round and to see if there may be a way to get you back out soon.
Bowes
First time playing here. Golf course was almost empty so that was nice. Free range balls with our booking on golfnow.com. Rain was on and off for short periods of time. The wind was present the whole round and made it difficult to score. Toughest thing about the course was the thick rough (don't know if that is normal or if it was thicker than usual because of the recent rain). Greens were quick even with the rain. I would play here again.
Thanks for checking us out! We hope to see you again soon (with some sunshine).
Great and challenging layout
This was a wonderful and challenging layout. Every shot made you think of the result. You had to really see where you wanted to be for the next shot. Kept me focused all the way around.
Pace of play was slow. We managed 4 1/2 or so, but the group in front was at least 2 holes behind and we waited on every shot. And the staff didn't seem to bothered by that pace. We were. Probably the only real drawback to playing this great course. It is a difficult course and if you aren't accomplished make sure you play the right tees.
The course had some burned out tee areas, the rough was very thick. Greens were outstanding. Overall a really great golf course.
Food selection at the turn was limited and wrap my wife bought was wet and not very appetizing.
Overall, I will definitely go back.
We're glad that you were challenged by the course and that it kept you thinking... Although it sounds as if you may have had a bit too much time to think, and we apologize about that. We appreciate your kind words and for taking the time to review our course - Hope to see you again soon!
excellent public course
Very impressed with the entire golfer experience from the bag drop to the course to the club house. One of the best 19th hole Pubs in the Chicago area
Thank you for the kind words, and we hope to see you again soon!
this course is a dream
there fairways are in perfect condition the Green are nicely taken care of and are fast plenty of challenges due to the dog leg right dog leg left most the time you will be playing against the wind which makes all holes longer especially the par really is a great challenging course well worth the extra bucks
Sweet Sweet Track
One of the better courses you will find. Can't wait to go again.
Great early shape
Have played here 4/5 times before and brought a friend who hadn't played before. Given early season was expecting greens to be a little rough. They were great!! Speed very consistent. Most tees were good. 17 and 18 by far the worst. Bunkers good. For my friend who golfs alot he was impressed and would agree with it's high marks as one of the better courses in the Northwest area. He's a 5 handicap who was playing with someone else's clubs. He shot 43-34 for a 77. I'll for sure return here. Got great Golf Now price of $33 for 12:30 time. Great price if you can wait till last day and be flexible.
Bowes Creek Country Club
The Good: Excellent Chicago western suburban course is in its infancy, but is already one of the best courses in the Second City area. Rugged design from Rick Jacobson is short but extremely difficult, with large traps laced with heather and treacherous greens. Super course conditions and good, large greens. One of the best clubhouses for a public facility in the Midwest with expansive restaurant and pro shop. Very strong practice facility includes driving range, short game area, and practice green. Very good service and staff for a public facility. Two of the best closing Par 4's in the state. Some good twilight and internet specials.
The Bad: Sand trap consistencies are to be desired. Greens can be a little bumpy and inconsistent at times. The Par 3's are less appealing than the rest of the course.
The Verdict: Bowes Creek is one of the best municipalities in the Midwest. Another new course in the area gaining great momentum and for great reason - simply one of the best public overall facilities in Illinois.
Best Hole: The closing hole is a long, downhill Par 4 with one of the best views in the area. Is often downwind so swing away!
Great Golf!
Fantastic course! Lots of challenges on a truly beautiful golf course!
Gem
Course layout condition truly special
We replayed and played at nice pace on cool fall day then ate at the bar. $5 burgers and craft beer. Great day
Hidden gem in elgin!
Bowes creek is a must play! One of my personal favorites!
Challenging Course
This course requires you to have a plan. There are certain places you can not miss. Staggering the tee-times 10 minutes apart made for outstanding pace of play. Greens are true and fair. A wonderful upscale golf experience at a reasonable price.
We're sorry to hear that the pins were not in the best of spots during your round with us. Please send us an email at BowesCreekCC@Gmail.com as we would like to have you back out at a discounted rate. Hopefully some better pin placements added to a layout you love will lead to a better experience. We appreciate the feedback.
