Lake Bess Country Club

I played this course once before, last year, when they were holding a tournament at my regular course, and Saturday was the same thing. Currently they have a couple of provisional greens which further shorten a course that already maxes out a 2300 for 9 holes. Bunkering is minimal, but the greens are small, the rough is lush (with all of the rain we've been having), and several of the tee shots demand either precision, or flighting your tee shot. The course favors a draw shot shape on 4 holes to avoid hazards and OB. Only one hole (the eighth) favors a fade, but that hole requires a blind shot across a waste area to a fairway running at almost a 90 degree angle to the tee box. A couple of the short par fours play through some live oak that leave you a very limited route high, but, if you can flight a low ball the options are much better.

I say all of that to point out that, this may be sort of an executive course (par 35) because it is shorter, but that doesn't mean it doesn't demand some precision and a variety of shots to play it well.

It's a fun course, and inexpensive. They don't have a grill. But, on a Saturday morning we (a twosome) played 18 holes (two loops) in less than 3 hours (we rode, but it's also very walkable).

Pace was ok until the last hole, older twosome decided to use 9 fairway as the driving range with zero concern that we were behind them.

Temp greens on most, ones that are not are just not real good.

Basically you're just practicing.

Very short 3 executive course has great potential.

My wife and I were looking for a place to go hit some balls,I seen lake bess on golf now,and seen it was close.its not a bad course to go play around,and practice some shots,will return.

I can't wait for this course to have thier greens in order. They should mark on the tee box that the green is short.

Played this morning. Booked a 9 hole tee time and was able to get through extremely quickly (under an hour) as a single and got a discounted rate for a second 9. I enjoyed the course layout. Definitely a shorter course but was super fun playing with the irons. Some greens and tee boxes need some work but the staff were amazing and for the money spent on the round, I will definitely be back to play again!

It would appear my time was slid in smack dab in the middle of a ladies league or similar. Only played 7 due to the delays.

Had a great day. Could see the beverage cart more often (zero times). And no food in the pro shop. Only bars and beers kinda thing.

Short course but good for working in all shots. Excellent value. Staff was very nice. Check it out.

From the moment we got there we were treated with kindness and fun. The lady behind the counter was the nicest we have ever encountered in the 181 different courses we have now played in central Fl. over the past 12 years.

Not in the best of condition but good fun with some challenging holes, and good bang for your buck!

You have to hit your ball very straight on this course. A couple drives have to be hit perfect to be in play. Nice selection of par 3's

Great place to get warmed up for later round of golf. Thanks to Golf Now you can get 7:30 AM tee time. Neat course close to Lake Bess. It is nestled among nice homes near Winter Haven.
