Playing the Right Tees
Played Mystic on Friday August 29th, 2014 with a buddy. We played the GOLD Tees which was right for us but got paired up with two guys - same ability who insisted on playing the BLACKS (TIPS) - play the proper tees - it makes things more enjoyable for everyone in the group - good players move up, don't have the lesser player move back.
Nice course, couple of local knowledge issues but we do plan on going back.
I always enjoy playing this course.
Intimidating off the tees. Will always make you think standing there with forced carries staring right back at you. But drive well and you'll certainly enjoy your round. The lay out can also make it think with bunker protected greens.
You normally don't get this kind of golf for the fee they charge.
It's an "out there" experience
I've played Mystic since its inaugural year. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus' lead designer Tom Pearson. It was designed to host an Open. So that says something about its difficulty rating. While Mystic takes a bad rap by the wend warrior of hack and wack skills, for its challenging design, it should at least be embraced for its 'mystical' experience of "out there" proportion. From the moment you step onto the first tee, there is nothing but a well manicured golf environment to stroke your ego 'fore' the next 4.5 hours. I am never in a hurry to leave a golf course course - this one especially! What a pristine environment. What a magnificent design incorporated into the natural landscape. I shot at least 10 strokes over my ambiguous handicap and thoroughly enjoyed my day of golf with my buddies. Can't wait fore my next out there experience at Mystic!
Love this tract
Every hole is new adventure, never gets old. Not designed for high handicappers, but exciting for mid handicaps.
challenging course
The course was in excellent condition. The course requires you to really know the yardages you hit your clubs because a lot of the holes have landing areas that if you do not land in will place you either a bunker, thick rough, fescue or the woods.
Not for newbies
Tough, challenging course lots of carry required. Need to ride very long. 4.5hrs is average round
Tough track
Great course. This course is tough the first time. Lots of blind shots. Play well and you can score well. Play bad and be prepared to shoot high.
Good test and surprise
I played Mystic GC on a Tuesday so the pace was fairly good except for the foursome in front of us with no one in front of them that decided to take multiple tee shots off a tough tee. This course is challenging with several blind tee shots and challenging holes for any level. There are several holes that challenge you to play risk/reward golf, with bailout areas further from the hole. The greens are fairly small and mostly elevated. The only negative was the fact my GPS led me astray on the way there. Also, if you want elegant clubhouse facilities (which I don't care much about), this course will disappoint. As far as the golf course design and conditions are concerned, a very good value. I will play again.
Paul's review
excellent course for the money. Very challenging from all tees. Course was in perfect condition. Only drawback is the facility does not have a proper clubhouse. However, can't wait to get back and play it again!
A great track
Beautiful setting. Tough, challenging course but fair if you play the right tees...bring your A game. No beverage cart on some days so bring your snacks and drinks.
I really enjoy this course some really great holes
It's one of the better courses I've been too! Challenging holes and a lot of fun.
Tough but excellent course
Played here for the first time. Was told from a friend this course is worth playing, so tried it out and wasn't disappointed at all! Very easy to get too, 2 minutes off the 403. The only thing that I was not impressed with (which has nothing to do with the golf game) is the shady trailer like club house. For a course this nice you would expect a half decent club house not a trailer. The starter asked us if we ever played here and of course we said no. So he said to save us the pain, play from the silver tee's which is 6000yds and i'm glad we did because this course is tough as nails even from 6000yds. The fairways and green were all in prime shape. Theres more wetlands and marsh that come into play then water.
Staff is friendly and great deal, so overall an 8.5 out of 10
drives .... long and straight
one would have to have a long drive to land on most of the fairways.
no room for error on second shot
lovely greens
numerous bunkers
some scenic holes
fairways in great shape
Like it better every time I go back!
When 6000 yds. warrants a slope rating of 129, you know you have a tough course, I can't even imagine playing this course from the tips at 7365 and a slope rating of 144.
The 9th and 10th holes are both gonna test your mettle, especially the 10th which I consider a par 6, although noted as a 5 on the scorecard :-) I did par the hole this trip, it was like a great birdie for me.
The course is a great layout, it will be nice when and if a clubhouse is eventually built, but then the price may become to high!
Difficult track
Mystic plays quite hard (high rating and slope) but is nicely layed out and very good condition. Has 5 different tee boxes for all player levels which will make the day enjoyable. Definitely will return in the future.
Good round, good value
Interesting course with plenty of challenge. Was in great shape with the exception of rock hard bunkers. Pace of play was excellent for a Friday afternoon.
Slow play
To play this course you need a low medium to low handicap. Took 5 hours to play this course due to inexperienced players looking for their golf balls and struggling with difficulty of the course. Marshall did not intervene. Beautiful course, extremely challenging.
Mystic
Great layout. Will challenge all clubs in your bag. Bunkers are not on good shape. Greens ran pretty true. Won't complain about my 75.
