Golfer Reviews
A great Challenge, but not for everyone.
Excellent, challenging layout designed by a former Nicklaus Design associate. Always in great condition and usually not very busy which means rounds under 4.5 hours. Some long carries from the tee and on a few approaches. Course requires every club in your bag. Some great risk reward holes that look easy but will destroy you if you are marginally off line. Give Mystic a try. You won't be disappointed.
Bring your A through A+++ game
This course is target golf at its best. Long hitters have an advantage on some holes. MAKE SURE YOU PLAY FROM YOUR PROPER TEE BOX. Tee box choice makes a HUGE difference here. Lots of risk v reward opportunities. 9, 10, and 17 are favorites. Each very challenging, but playable. Highly recommend playing the course at least twice to get an understanding of the course. Greens rolled fast and true though a few had bare spots on the fringe. The bunkers were not in great condition. Pace of play was slow 1 out of the 3 times I visited the course (5 hrs) . Plenty of opportunities to build frustration and boost confidence. Bring balls and enjoy the ride. *Playing this course on a windy day is punishing; our group saw deer crossing the cart path @ 18*
Great course, but 2 holes need ajustement
It is a great design, lots of really nice holes, especially on the back nine.
I have played this course twice this year and both times the course was in a very good condition.
It is a tough course but holes 9 and 10 are unfair!
Number 9 is a 426 yard par 4 with a huge fairway bunker in the middle of the fairway at 220 from the tee box leaving you about 15 yards each side of that bunker to land safely.
This hole is tough enough without that fairway bunker!
Number 10 is very long par 5 even though you hit a really good tee shot, on your second shot, you got to hit at least 210 to carry a creek; most of the time you are forced to lay up and play for the boggy.
The tee box should be closer to the creek.
Mashall driving around was great!
$60 for a end of season golf when Greens are aerated and in rough shape is not worth it. Staff is nice but the manager there is rude an could care less. Would not return on a perfect day at half price.
lot of ravines to carry with drives
joined up with a member and his guest who were playing from back tees, will play from front if playing again and am sure the course would be more enjoyable
1st Time here
Played here for the first time was very impressed some very challenging holes nice greens course was in great shape I will play it again
Bunkers & greens
It is unfortunate that the golfers who play this course don't care to rake bunkers or fix ball marks on the greens. I don't mean a few bunkers and greens, I mean all of them. It is a tough golf course made tougher by balls in footprints and bumpy greens. It is a great course and well maintained by the staff. It would be nice if the golfers could pay some respect to others.
difficult at best
difficult but fair if you play smart...long well maintained tee blocks, rough, fairways, forest and greens... 2 inches from birdieing number 10.. it was the 5 best shots personally..lol
rudest staff ever seen
Unfriendly staff in pro shop, felt like you were begging them for playing there. Marshall is extremely rude, stopped us from playing the last 2 holes and forced us to leave because they said they needed to close the course and go home. There were no other groups behind us, and we would certainly be able to finish the 18 before dark.
Course is okay, but completely bad experience. Will NOT go again!!!!!!
One of the hidden gems west of the city
Be prepared for quite a few challenging holes. Greens roll relatively easy, but getting there can be a test.
Still challenging and beautiful.
Ravines, bunkers, elevation changes, trees, water and large smooth greens; what more could you ask for. This course is a favourite to play. There is an amazing variety of holes that will challenge your shot making ability, length and accuracy. Then there are the greens. They would be great if people would bend over and fix a ball mark or two. They are large, quick (not extremely crazy fast) and they will hold a shot when you hit them. The tenth hole is the most difficult par 5 you will ever play.
Course is a pleasure to play, but play from the right tee boxes or it will kill you.
The course will punish you if you miss the fairways by more than 10 yards on a lot of holes. The same goes for the par 3's. So some will find it unfair in that regard. I found it a really fun course and very enjoyable to play. However bring a few extra balls as the course eats them up. Well worth the drive out to Ancaster.
Nice use of natural elevation changes.
Pace of play slow...you'll need a few rescue clubs or hybrids,, put them all in the bag .... not so much the wedges. some longish carries to green or for position...greens good and true. Watch the wind above the trees, not from your position.
Accuracy is the key to this course to score well!!
I had played Mystic years ago before it became a Golf North property and hadn't played it since. What a treat. The course was in great shape and you have to be very accurate. It is target golf. Hit here and then to here. If you don't hit to where you are supposed to, it is going to cost you strokes. Bring lots of balls!! The total lost ball count, I think was close to 16 between 3 golfers. It is difficult if you haven't played the course before and not knowing its set-up. I can't wait to play again now that I know the course and try to beat my score and cut down on some lost balls.
It's ok
Overall, a nice place to play except for a couple of improvements or changes. Most noticeable were at least 4-5 of the greens had bear patches on them with no sign of trying to fix them. Also the 1oth hole, usually a very challenging par 5, now from the silver tees it's been turned into a nothing hole. Still a par 5, but due to the gulley, now can't hit more than a long iron or hybrid to the edge of the gulley then over. Although I can see their reasoning to alter this hole, probably due to slow play as most would struggle with this hole at the best of times, it just takes away from what you expect at this course. So some greens aside and the change on 10, still a nice place to spend the day
A very challenging course which takes advantage of some great topography.
This is not a golf course for the timid! it's nice that is has become one of golfnow's options. I could see why walking this course
is not feasible so was glad for the cart. The bronze tees are challenge enough for the shorter hitter! I would like to see
a hybrid set-up between the silver/bronze tees however as the yardage ranges from 6096 to 4808 with no in between option.
From what I saw, the shorter male hitter could use this option along with the longer lady hitter. The elevation changes are
enjoyable as is the wonderful condition of this course.
BUNKERS NEED WORK
course in good condition ,
fairway and greens good condition
bunkers are not playable reason for 2 star
Or would of rated 4 star
Very challenging.
This was our first visit. Be careful which tee blocks you play from as it could be very frustrating. Long straight shots needed on most holes and par 5s were very difficult. Would play this course again, now that we are more aware of where we should be shooting.
Completely agree!! We also got forced off with 2 holes to go, 30min before it was dark. Marshalls were extremely rude!
