The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway sprawls across rolling hills blanketed with towering Douglas firs. Located just 30 minutes south of Tacoma, it is one of the area's hidden gems, offering not only a beautiful natural setting but also a challenging round. The layout features elevated greens, tree-lined fairways, and ponds and wetlands that come into play on several holes. The greens are the most challenging element of the golf course. Some are small, which is tough enough to maneuver as it is, and most are framed by mounding. Sand bunkers also provide contrast against the smooth and fast-rolling greens. The Classic is a challenging course but still playable for all skill levels.

Course is nice, but driving range is closed

The greens and fairways are in good shape. The club house is a shed, and the driving range is closed because they built new houses right next to it. Hopefully they’ll put up nets and open it back up.

Trees manicured and removed.

Disappointed in the new layout. Chopped up with houses being built on the course. Have not played in 10+ years and not likely to return.

Scramble or die!

Wow! What a fun course. Fairway shots are highly rewarded. Wayward shots will be punished. You need to play lots of different shots to score here. The greens are so fun but there are some ugly sections showing on a few holes. Minus the funky corners on a few the greens roll very true. The Par 3s set you up to score if you’ve been hurting yourself. The par 5s feel lacking but there is a drive-able par 4 on 18 for anyone looking for redemption. Right misses aren’t punished as much as left misses off the tee. Food and beverage is good and prices are alright for a golf course. The lady that runs food and beverage is really nice as was the rest of the staff. It’s a must play course in my opinion. If you’re getting beat up, make sure and look behind you, there are other golfers that want to finish their round of all levels playing there as well. Go have some fun!!

Not bad for the price

The greens were in perfect shape, but the overall care of the course, cart paths, carts and clubhouse are pretty poor.

Nice course, but could use a little work

First time playing there. The greens were nice with lots of undulation. Tee boxes were firm and a little torn up. Good layout with lots of dogleg left holes. Could use a Marshall, pace of play was 4 1/2 hours. Would play again.

Exceeded expectations

I booked this course because it was a hot deal and it was close. It wasn't until just before leaving for the course that I read some of the reviews, many of which were negative. Poor conditions, not worth the price, no driving range, etc. I thought the layout was interesting and challenging, the greens fantastic, and the fairways good. And a very good value with many types of discounts available

Defensive Greens

I've played here several times and have enjoyed the challenge. Almost all the greens - even the par 3's are quite challenging to approach. Mostly they require a moderate to high approach to get anywhere near the flag. Most greens have a narrow unguarded approach but even then, the mounding around the greens make it difficult. Surprisingly, the tiny bunkers add to the defensive nature. As with most more difficult courses, you will be additionally punished for not putting the tee shot in the fairway.

Always great course conditions, especially the greens. Not the longest course overall. Fun layout, with tight fairways and small greens. Pace of play is usually good too.

Great Twilight value.

Greens were in good shape not fast. The course is short, but has doglegs that will make short holes challenging.

This course was great to play

This course was great to play and would definitely play it again. The sand traps needed a some TLC in regards to how hard the sand was, it needed fluffing. The food at the Cafe was awesome! The staff is very friendly!
