The Hawk Niagara Falls Golf Club - Red Talon
About
The Red Talon Course (formerly known as The Hillside Course) is one of three nine-hole courses at The Hawk Niagara Falls Golf Club. It is similar to the original course at the club, the Blue Niagara, in that water comes into play on four holes. This golf course, however, uses the many lakes scattered throughout its landscape in creative ways to provide a unique set of challenges. There are also strategically placed bunkers bordering the fairways and greens. The golf course starts out with the shortest par-4 at The Hawk Niagara Falls Golf Club but bites back with a tricky par 3. The fourth and fifth holes are built between two lakes, making them particularly scenic but they also demand hitting straight.

Spring golf at its best
The course is in great shape, greens, bunkers, fairways, driving range and all. Wind was a challenge. Played with a couple from Sudbury down for a week of spring golf - made for a good round. Staff professional and helpful. Played Orchard and Hillside. Added bonus - sighted two goslings, first of the year, maybe couple days old.
Penn Lakes - Pelham Ontario
Despite being a cold day, the wind was not too bad, and the course was in excellent condition, especially considering the amount of rain throughout the early part of the week. Penn Lakes is one of the best maintained courses in the region, and when you get a deal like we had, it is well worth it. The holes are challenging and many are very interesting, especially the first couple of holes on Orchard (got to go to the top tee off point to really enjoy the 2nd hole), and Hillside is always fun to play.
challenging and stunning
Course is perfect for fall golf. Greens are impeccable and layout makes for a great day of "risk reward" golf!
stunning conditions and fall views
This is a spectular course! The conditions are perfect and combined with Niagara escarpment fall colour views are a memory you won't forget! The only drawback is due to time of year staff is lacking to open their wonderful halfway house for great food.
always a great golf experience
Course in terrific condition and pace of play is always good. Always look forward to playing here.
Slow Play but otherwise a great dsy
Excellent condition, friendly staff. Caught up with a group ahead of us on #9 and they were painfully slow with a couple of open holes ahead of them. Back nine was like following a human rain delay. Left my cell phone in the cart and someone turned it in. Made my day. Saw the cart girl frequently. Overall it was a great day.
course is in great condition,I will definitely play again .Hopefully get a chance at the third nine. I will recommend it to my friends.
Great day at one of are great courses in the Niagara area
everything you would expect
Great course, great people. Green fees have increased over last year but using Golfnow rewards points kept my cost reasonable.
Lovely stting, great course
Nice layout with spectacular views. Fairly wide open but still long and challenging.
The orchard nine is the best with more trees and better layout in my mind.
Pace was OK, we played behind a 4 some of what appeared to be regulars or members who took their time. We never pushed them but on the 9th hole my partner hit a ball near the green while they were celebrating and chatting. They complained to the course and we were chastised by the marshall at the next tee.
Was not a serious push and it was unintentional. Really ticked us off and took away from the round.
Won't play again unless I get a bargain rate or on someone's expense account.
The Best course in the Niagara Region
Pen Lakes is always in great condition and a pleasure to play.
Staff are Snobby
Played Hillside/Quarry
I've golfed here numerous times because it's only a 5 minute drive from my house, and because the course conditions are great - but the staff - is quite the opposite.
As one of the premier courses in the Niagara Region, the course conditions at Pen Lakes are exquisite. Most courses have a Canadian Geese problem, but here, it's minimal. The greens are impeccable, the bunkers have some of the nicest sand around, and the course is challenging...BUT
and it's a big BUT...
if you don't drive up in your BMW or Benz or Audi or Bentley, don't expect the staff to treat you with respect.
They look you up and down, and if you're not wearing the latest golf fashion, forget it. If you don't have this year's newest clubs, forget it. That's not a $600 Driver, bug off. If you're not opening a brand new sleeve of ProV1's, forget about getting their respect.
I called the club house a few days before our tournament for a practice round. After explaining the reason for my call to the young girl, I was quoted a price higher than I could have booked on their website !!!!
I've turned down playing this course when a buddy of mine got a deal for unlimited play $50/golfer. That's $25 a round for a course that warrants $75-100/round.
Until the culture surrounding this property changes, I will not recommend anyone golfing here, unless they can avoid any interaction with staff.
as always the course is fantastic
We had great weather for an early November golf game.
Course was in great condition.
One funny thing was they had removed all the rakes from the course. Are they worried they would damaged from frost?
