King's Forest Golf Course
About
Dating back to 1973, King's Forest Golf Course in Hamilton is among the top public golf courses in Ontario. The conditions are top-notch especially for a municipal course, and Ontario Golf Magazine has recognized King's Forest as a "Hidden Gem." King's Forest has hosted the Canadian Junior Golf Association Ontario finals, the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship Qualifier and the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship.

Great layout!!!
I've played this course a few times over the last years and I'm always amazed at the potential of this course's design.
My word of advice is play it early in the season to truly appreciate this track. Playing it in the summer or fall, will not do the justice as they (the city) don't appear to have a decent budget and the course gets mangled up and dry as a rock later in the season.
Overall, great value for money and a decent pace of play.
Very nice course, very friendly staff.
Course was in great shape, very challenging. Enjoyed our day.
Good potentials, but that’s about it...
The play is very slow, be ready for 5 + hours, no marshals, nobody cares, etc. The course is extremely dry and overall is in very poor condition for the money you are paying for... beginning from tee boxes to the greens....
It is a pity that these beautiful layouts of the golf course can be ruined by the lack of care coming from the city of Hamilton, no pride what so ever.....
King Forrest is always in good condition, Green recently AR'd but still ran true...but slow
course played at a fair pace but caught up to a log jam, needed a no nonsense marshall to speed up the slower players. Played from the white tees (group) way more challenging moving back to the blues....sick from the blacks
A Hidden Treasure
I grew up on this course and it is one of the finest public courses in Ontario. Even after the re-routing of the Red Hill Creek, it's picturesque and very playable. Quiet location in the Rosedale neighbourhood.
Built along the Niagara Escarpment with many elevation changes.
Challenging layout with mature tall oak trees lining the fairways.
Excellent course and great value
The GOD wasn't on our side when we played the course.
It has been raining a lot for the last 2 days and still raining a bit on the day we were playing but the course was still very much playable. I enjoyed the challenging of the some holes and the course layout was very well desined. The greens were still in very good condition. I recommand this course to everyone,
great public course. Best in the city
great public course. Best in the city. Very challenging.
Nice scenic course
King's Forest is a Municipal course, which guarantees a good level of maintenance. It's on a very large property and has some beautiful and challenging holes. The course is long (6300 from the whites) and played even longer in the cool and wet October weather. I enjoyed it and would certainly play it again. It was well worth the 35 min drive.
A good gauge of where your game is at...
I would like to preface my review with the fact that leading up to this round I'd been playing very well at various well known courses. My confidence was high. I had played Kings Forest once before and shot over 100! I played as a single on a hot deal. It was a sunny and very windy day to tackle this monster. We played the Blue tee's. This course is a challenge! Tilted fairways. Elevated tee shots onto narrow fairways.Up hill shots to blind greens. Lots of trees. A prime example of a quality parkland layout. No water to really concern yourself with. There are many challenges to overcome during the round so you won't have time mourn its absence. Many "Wow" holes. Fairways are in nice condition for this late in the season. The tee boxes and greens were showing the affects of a season as a "Muni". They were really battered and bruised. Especially the green on #18. Some fool took a massive divot out of the green near the pin. I guess they were disgruntled with their poor putting/round. The greens are often undulating and/or tiered. Played the round in less then 4.5 hrs. You will need all of the clubs in your bag to be successful at this course. The round was a battle. I was pleased when I discovered I'd shot a 94. Well worth the time/money to play this course. It will now become my twice a season "yard stick" course. Humbling and enjoyable.
No driving range, chipping/putting greens are available. Difficult walk. Take a power cart.
Course is in great fall shape
Nice track for the fall. Course is in amazing condition. They are working hard at eliminating any leaves which makes the round more enjoyable.
beautiful setting challenging course
The course is difficult but not impossible. It does need attention in certain areas such as the cart paths and well traveled areas around the tees and greens. These areas are bare and hard. The fairways are also hard and could use more water
Attention needed in a few areas, but overall good course.
To start the round there were a few twosomes, which should be ok if there are at least 5 or 6 holes to the front foursome. But these twosomes shold have been made into foursomes. When my twosome reached the 10th tee there was a foursome on the tee, a twosome on deck, a threesome and 2 twosomes.
Considering the time of year (Sept), the fairways and greens were in good shape, but the tee decks were awful. There was very little grass and some were uneven.
And for you golfers who DON'T repair your ball marks, shame on you. This is one of my biggest golf pet peeves. I always fix mine (when I hit the green) and at least one other. Please, fix your ball marks.
This course from the gold tees for anyone will give them a thinking game. Great value also.
Great traditional course with tree line and challenging rough. Good test for anyone.
city owned and operated. Enough said, but what a layout! fabulous potential
One of my most favorite of all time. Great design, and close to town. Too bad it's run by people who just cut grass and trim trees now and then. It could be one of the most naturally beautiful and challenging courses in all of Ontario
One of the best public courses
Greens could be maintained better, but overall it surely is one of the best public courses in Hamilton and area. The starter and the marshal I met on the course were nice and friendly.
Nice Course-Over priced
I booked on golf now for 55$ then came in and it was 62$. The service charge was only suppose to be 4$. For 62$ the course is very nice and challenging. However the changeroom facilities look like they have not been updated in many years. Showers had a few lage spiders in them. If the clubhouse and changerooms were upkept as well as the rest of the course it would be well worth the money. If you are someone who does not get changed or have a shower after your round, then it will most likely meet your standards.
It's a Bear
One of my all time fav's the Forest is a Blue Collar gem that places the focus on the golf course not "the lavish clubhouse and GPS Carts". There isn't 1 hole you can walk up to and write par on your card before playing, each has unique and hidden perils. No finer place to be than playing on a beautiful afternoon or during twilite....I can't say much more or I won't be able to get a tee time!
Very poor conditions
I was very disappointed in the course conditions. After reading other reviews, how it had been top 100 in Canada a couple of years ago and that it was the qualifying course for the 2012 Canadian Open, I thought it would be a great bargain for $34. I was wrong, it wasn't even worth $34. They must have turned off the sprinklers 3 months ago on the fariways and rough. Many places in the rough were just dirt or dead grass. Many places in the fairway were like hitting off a 20 year old matt from a driving range. I have played many different courses over the past few years and I don't remember any other course is such bad condition.
Interesting review. "many different courses?" You should have mentioned a few as comparison to this . I can assure you that the RCGA & CPGA & CIAU organizations are far more educated in the quality of a course then you or I. I will defer to them.
Unfortunate. Sounds like my experience at twenty valley. I have know played King's Forest on four separate occasions, at three different times of year. I have lived your experience. I was annoyed by how I was let down. I gave her another try. I recommend you give it another "Hot Deal" try in early season to truly judge her. I just played her for the second time in two weeks @ $29 and conditions were better then you experienced. Where else are you going to play for the $ in the area with a layout and challenge like King's Forest? Willow Valley, Horrible Knollwood's. No local Golfnow courses.
