Silver Lakes Golf & Country Club
About
Carved from 200 acres of mature forest along the Holland River just 40 minutes from downtown Toronto, Silver Lakes Golf & Country Club provides a scenic round reminiscent of those found in either Florida or the Carolinas. Neighbored by native wetlands, the golf course features water hazards on 12 holes. There are also treacherous, well placed bunkers coming into play on every hole. The par-3 third hole is notably challenging, in addition to being flanked by bunkers, it also requires a carry over a pond. Silver Lakes Golf & Country Club also features a unique seven-acre aqua driving range as well as three chipping and putting greens.

Beauty and the beast
This course is beautiful to look at, and if you are an amazing golfer and are totally on your game when you play it will be great times. But if you're off a bit, this course will make you pay. It's challenging no doubt, there's a lot of water and the greens are play like a sheet of ice. But my goodness this is a beautiful course. I was teeing up at one point and a deer wandered in front of me, about 20 ft away. It stood there and grazed a while, I took a pic and then it darted back into the trees. If you are planning to play here, I have for you a few pointers. If you have a good driver play it, if not leave it at home, slices and hooks will be punished on this very narrow course. Bring insect repellent! This course was carved out of a forest, and the bugs rein supreme. Take your time with the putts. Be ready to wait to tee off at least half of the holes, pace is rather slow on this course so budget 5 hrs.
Course was in excellent condition
My only complaint is that although we played twilight hours, the club house closed down and we could not buy any refreshments, even after the turn. I would have expected that they would have stayed open to service the players still on the course. Very disappointed in their "customer service".
Way too slow
Slowest round of my life -- 5 1/2 hours. Rangers driving around but they seemed to just be friendly old guys and nothing improved. Cart girl was an absolute misery. I don't know what her problem was but at one point she went over a bump and dropped about 20 plastic cups on the ground and she just rolled her eyes and kept driving. Are the players supposed to pick them up for her? Sorry she's having a bad day but hey..
Nice course but not mind-blowing and at that pace of play, I'll never go again. It was a holiday Monday so maybe that affected things but it shouldn't cause a total meltdown. On the plus side, they let you try out a demo driver if you wanted so that was a nice touch and the guys in the pro shop were professional and efficient. But getting-close-to-six-hours to play a round wrecks anything good they try to do.
Always in good condition.
It was a pleasure playing at silver lakes. Course was in good condition.
good maintenance and friendly marshal
unfortunately I GOT INTO TOURNAMENT TEAMS SO MY PLAY TOOK 5 HOURS.BUT GOLF COURSE AND STAFFS WERE VERY GOOD.
Challenging tight fairways and very friendly staff
The course overall was in very good condition. My only slight criticism was a few divots in the fairways and some of the tee boxes were little torn up as well. The holes were designed with many challenges and really tested your accuracy. This is a course you need to stay on the fairway as there's little forgiveness if you miss. The greens were fairly hard packed and quick. I would definitely play here again, lots of fun. Just be sure to bring bug spray, as if you're in the woods, you'll get eaten alive.
A little out of the way but worth the trip!
This course is literally at the end of Yonge Street, the longest street in the world. Played Silver Lakes about two years ago and it continues to remain a gem in the GTA.
The course was in very good condition and you can get away with using a three wood off the tee on most holes except for the par 5s.
Don't forget the bug spray as there were ample mosquitoes in the bush area and around stagnant ponds. All in all, a very good course for the price.
Gave 3 stars due to value.
Got a twilight golf now deal which really is just a free power cart since after 5pm, the green fee is $39 which is what I paid on golfnow including cart.
Other than that, I enjoy Silver Lakes a lot, great track, conditions were good as were the greens.
A lttle damp in certain valleys of the course, mainly the wooded areas, so just keep it on the fairway.
Slow!
10+ minute wait at every hole
After 4 holes went back to club house and asked for money back
3 called in complaints
1 Marshall for entire course
Nothing but kids running the club/pro shop
Nice course. Challenging greens.
Course in great shape but bring lots of bug repellent. Greens are challenging. Good value for price for Toronto.
Great Course
Fairways and greens in great condition.
Only downside was the amount of mosquitos.
Great course will be back
The course was excellent.Thank you golf now.
The rough was cut at a decent height. The traps were excellent. The
greens were very challenging which is great. If the price is right i will definately play it again.
average at best.
too pricey with compareble area courses.
too many mosquitoes after rain and ,or on a muggy day, they
should do something about it.
mutch better on dry weather.
Great course, jam packed, but overall nice.
We had a tournament in front of us which ended up being really slow...that hurt the experience. However, the course was very nice. Like the Carolina's apparently. Tough course in my beginner opinion, but it was quite nice. I liked how they had cart paths on both sides for a lot of the holes. Will go back.
this course was very wet from the marsh and lots of bugs
hi the course was a little rough due to the floods from the holland marsh flooding so some tee boxs were wet and a lot of the rough was very wet also they had a lot of pumps going all over the course trying to drain alot of the fairways .since it sits in marsh land alot of bugs bring spray
Wet
Course was in great shape other than extremely wet. Its always wet but any time after rains there are actually sand bags holding back the water.
Staff were great and the course was a great layout. Wet was my only problem other than this...
If you have tournaments booked, find a way to communicate that with people booking tee times. It was very slow. Thankfully I had great company to keep me entertained while waiting.
Beautiful challenging course
Silverlakes is a beautiful challenging course located in the holland marsh reserve. The course is maintained very well and was in good condition except for the rough areas which we found to be a little water logged due to rain the previous days. Pace of play was great as it took our foursome 4 hrs to complete. I highly recommend this course to anyone
Slow play on weekends
First of all our teetime got delayed by alomost 30 mins due to the course being too busy from an earlier tournament. Despite it being a hot and sunny day, it was cart path only which further delayed the round. Slow players were hindering the pace as well, and there was barely any marshals visible at the course to move the slow groups along. To add insult to injury Silver Lakes decided to slot in another group in front of us at the turn without letting us know. This new group was even slower than the slow ones before. Spoke to the staff but they themselves had no clue what happened. The entire round took more than 6 hours to finish. I am normally a big fan of silver lakes but I will never golf there on weekends anymore. Also, the bugs were terrible. Got 30+bites even when standing in the middle of the fairway, on a sunny day.
A soggy challenge
Great layout. Interesting holes and challenging design.
Course was waterlogged and cart-path only. Pace of play was maintained, despite this though.
Impossible not to chunk your ball. One divot I took was 2 feet long and 3 inches deep. Other courses I've played in the area were much dryer than this. Course sits on marsh-like land, so would need many days of dry weather before the course plays fair.
Easy to walk, as the course is fairly flat. Layout makes up for the lack of elevation change.
Don't feel this course is worth the $100 they're charging. Conditions would have to be absolutely pristine (which they aren't) to warrant charging this much.
May return in the future, but am not rushing back.
great course
I enjoyed playing at Silver Lakes. Greens are much more challenging on the back nine. Great experience. Be prepared for mosquitoes, especially at the end of the afternoon
