Thundering Waters Golf Club
About
Thundering Waters Golf Club, so named for its proximity to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, has a unique layout that combines a parkland course with the tricky elements of a heathland golf course. There is an interesting combination of drivable par 4s and scenic par 3s that will provide a formidable test for even the most skilled players. The golf course first winds through heavily wooded patches and then finds its way to rugged hills dotted with thick fescue where true links-style holes with deep bunkers and large, undulating greens await you. The layout also features several doglegs and more than 100 bunkers strategically placed throughout. Water hazards come into play on 10 holes. Thundering Waters Golf Club was Canada's first John Daly signature golf course.

Thundering Waters Golf course
Nice track. I like that there are 6 par 5s on the course. Next time I think I would play the black tees. The par 5s were a bit short from the blue tees.
Target golf on steroids
I enjoy playing this golf course but it is ironic that it is branded as a John Daly course. I give the course architect full credit for figuring out how to put 18 holes on this property and the course routing is bizarre. This is absolutely not a bombers course but if you enjoy target golf you will not be disappointed.
Late in year
Challenging to an average golfer ~ requires accuracy to keep ball loss acceptable. A course book iwould be helpful to assist with management of shots.
Early morning not recommended as course very wet. Bunkers a little short on sand.
Amazing course
I payed 42 $ a person on golf now plus tax
So definitely the best course for that price..
if you hate sand you'll love this course. Basically every hole has sand on both sides and decent amount of water as well
But best course ever and I hope to return soon
Tough eye pleasing course
Played this course 7 yrs ago and couldn't wait to play again with family. Fairways were green and full, but didn't get much roll. Rough has been let grow as well as undwrbrush. Kiss any errand tee shots goodbye Greens were full, green and speedy. Couldn't get a pitch closer than 10 feet, which left me lots of bogeys. Bummer. Played on two didifferent days and didn't see a Marshall to keep the groups from lagging behind. Snack bar wasn't ready to go wgen we teed up i@7:50. Ate a cold muffin.
a breath of fresh air
I heard they chopped up the coarse but I very much enjoyed the round . Its not your typical drive , chip , putt coarse. Every hole is a new challenge . You need to know your irons and keep the big dog in the bag .
Great Course, but stuck behind a tournament
The course is great, very well maintained and the staff was very friendly. The only issue that we had was that we teed off right behind a tournament so the pace of play was very slow and the round took about 6 and half hours. I wish there would have been a way to tell that we would have been playing on the same day of a tournament before booking.
Thundering Waters was great
Great course
Great Staff
And was matched up with two great guys.
Great Time
Thundering Waters has been much maligned since it first opened. It opened too soon and then of course the housing development forced some changes to the layout (Shortened the course and took out the range).
Which gets me to my review.
Prior to my round all that I ever heard about the golf course was mostly negative feedback. However, after playing the course for the first time I fail to see what all of the negativity was about. The conditions of the course was fantastic especially considering the amount of rainfall that we had the night before. The greens rolled true and the tee boxes are even (#10 could use better tee box rotation).
The staff was friendly enough although the Starter came off as a little bit of a sarcastic type which could be misconstrued by some guests. Carts were well appointed and never had any issue. The Pace of Play was fantastic (somehow I was a single) and overall I loved the course. Then there was my rate...
I took advantage of a $8 Hot Deal. A fun round on a very nice golf course!!!
Enjoyable and challenging.
Fairways a little tight (narrow) in spots. Fairways were soft this day, balls did not run; could be just the weather this season. Greens were biting, yet fast.
Groundscrew needs to let players play through.
Excellent course. Will definitely go back. BUT. While we waited to tee off on an early hole, grounds worker was cutting women's tee box in front of us. He never even acknowledged that we were there even though he looked right at us every time he turned his mower our way, and continued cutting while we stood there waiting. Finally playing partner just hit his ball while cutting still going on. I understand that upkeep is necessary but I have never been to a course where they didn't stop while you hit and then finish once you were gone.
Tricky course!
Thundering Waters was probably a great course at one time before some land was sold off to make room for the new houses being built near the course. I would usually play a course at 6100-6300 yards. I played this course at 5800 yards. The course offers very difficult tee shots and very small landing areas. You need to be very accurate as any misplaced shots will penalize you. Not sure how many bunkers are on the course but I would guess over a 100 and they are deep. Probably enjoy it much more a second or third time around. The course was also very wet, cart path only.
Good variety
Great condition, interesting layout, lots of variety
Tough but fair!
Great layout. Much fun. Very interesting
I live in New Jersey but have relatives in the area
Play 3-4 times per year in Niagara region. This place would cost at least double if in New Jersey
I'm a 15 Hcp. Really enjoy this place. One of my fav's
Great aprons!
Heard some not so great reviews by my neighbors but decided to play anyway. Was very pleased with the condition of the course with the exception of the bunkers. They were poorly maintained and sand was like mud.
As are most courses currently (good rainfall) the fairways and aprons were in perfect condition. So were the greens.
Green to tee is extremely long in many cases so walking is not an option.
Pace was not bad but no marshals to be seen.
Great Course
When you are driving two hours your hoping that the course will be good and Thundering Waters didn't disappoint. The staff was very friendly from the bag drop to the snack bar. Some holes very tight and requires straight drives. The fairways and greens very good however virtually every bunker could use a truckload of sand.
No beverage cart but the snack hut is strategically located so you will pass it twice on each nine. Was nice to see that a local beer was featured for $5.00.
Overall a great course, well worth what we paid. Housing development going up quickly around course and some holes have already been altered to accommodate. Carts don't have GPS so expect your GPS/watch to go screwy on a few holes.
