Thundering Waters Golf Club
About
Thundering Waters Golf Club, so named for its proximity to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, has a unique layout that combines a parkland course with the tricky elements of a heathland golf course. There is an interesting combination of drivable par 4s and scenic par 3s that will provide a formidable test for even the most skilled players. The golf course first winds through heavily wooded patches and then finds its way to rugged hills dotted with thick fescue where true links-style holes with deep bunkers and large, undulating greens await you. The layout also features several doglegs and more than 100 bunkers strategically placed throughout. Water hazards come into play on 10 holes. Thundering Waters Golf Club was Canada's first John Daly signature golf course.

Expected More
Course layout was challenging, bunkers are at every spot that you want to hit. However bunkers were soaked and hard as cement. You can see the course was once very good.
Great day, great course
I would definately recommend this course to anyone who enjoys playing like a pro. You see pro style shots on this course i.e. 6' deep bunkers (or more), undulating greens making for ever important approach shot placements, varying shot shaping from hole to hole. It makes you think. The course is immaculate, the greens roll true and fast while still very accepting of approach shots. It is a good challenge for all levels and very reasonably priced. I will continue to keep TW on my list of must plays.
Thank you for the 4 star review and super great feedback. We really appreciate it and hope you will visit us again soon!
Nice Course
I have played here several times and I still think the course is in great shape. I agree that this course was much better when it first opened and did not have the houses around it, but overall it is still very good. Others have commented about the poor conditions of the bunker and I would agree with them, but these were not a big deal for me. I hit many of them but just dealt with what was there. I would play here again for sure.
Thank you very much for your feedback and 4 star review. We appreciate hearing about our course and what can be fixed. Do visit us again soon!
Just OK
I remembered when this course opened and there was a lot of promotion about it. I figured with John Daly being involved it would be a long course. It isn't really. The course IS challenging but it could use some attention. Several tee boxes were under repair, as were a few traps. The course is littered with dead or dying trees that need removal. The fairways and greens were decent. The clubhouse and pro shop is nice but there is only a net to warm up your swing. The parking is removed from the clubhouse meaning that you have to walk a few hundred yards back to the pro shop after you drop your bag and there is no defined way to do that- you are in the road or through the lot. A
Sidewalk would be nice? The development of homes immediately next to the course is a bit distirbing as it suggests that over time, the course will lose somemofnigs ambience. The homes are basic too. Overall I would say it was an "ok" experience. Not great but not bad. Will I return? Perhaps but I will explore other courses first.
Thank you for the review. We're always looking to improve the course and all questions and comments are taken into serious consideration. We hope you'll come back and give us another shot sometime soon.
Quite Confusing Design Changes
I have played here a few times and when the course was first developed it was broadcast as a John Daly length course.....with the "Daly tees" etc. Along the way, the developers decided that the value was in making homes around the course for extra $ and the overall course design suffered. There are holes that will confuse you in length and the way that you will have to play them....expect to play a shot makers type game and you will be hitting less than driver off numerous holes. Lack of practice facility hurts the overall pleasure. We normally warm up at another practice facility prior to getting to course. That being said the overall course conditions are always good. The greens seem to take a bit of a beating later in the year whether it is from stay and play package people or not repairing ball marks or just the fact that you are hitting high balls (wedges) into numerous greens. But still worth playing - especially when you can get it for less than $40 on Golf Now....Course is above the Rolling Meadows and Willodell type courses in the Niagara area but a dramatic step behind Legends, Royal Niagara and Grand Niagara.
Mr. Ken
Course is in good shape except for the sand traps.
Stay out of the traps, there's little to no sand at all in them.
Very Slow
We finally got to tee off about 25 minutes after our tee time. They scheduled a tournament and didn't have enough staff to attend to everyone. Anyway, we waited on every single shot. The goofballs in front of use were playing from the tips and might have hit 5 fairways combined for the round. But it was slow in front of them too. There's a lot of [deep] bunkers and many of them were GUR. The layout was good, but they really need to enforce their "golf attire" rules. Saw lots of t-shirts. People who were t-shirts generally don't take care of golf courses.
Eko,
We hate to hear that your round was delayed. We hope you'll come play when things are a little more calm. Once again, our sincerest apologies. As you noted several of our bunkers are under repair and we hope to have the course in tip-top condition in the coming weeks. Thank you for your comments, we take them very seriously. Come back and see us soon.
Nice layout
Enjoyed the course really need to know where to place the ball a lot of trouble can be had
Kd18k,
We're happy to hear the course presented a unique challenge, The Lion would be happy to hear that. We hope to see you on the course again soon!
Good for one-night getaways
We had to wait like 10-15 mins at every hole in the back 9 becuz of a small tournament going ahead, which was a brand new experience at this course, but, other than that, it was a good once-in-a-while getaway in the Niagara Falls area. I believe this is one of the best courses when you feel like going out of town and getting some different air.
Windancer,
We're humbled to hear you enjoyed yourself and always appreciate a good review from a Golf Advisor top contributor. Sorry you got stuck behind a tournament on the back. Come back and get some air any time!
daleys dud
not what it use to be according to people I know that have played there previously

Sand Traps are a disgrace
The sand traps are a JOKE (some had no sand and others were unplayable) and the tee blocks are in terrible condition. For the middle of June there should be no excuses for these deficiencies. The fairways and greens are in good shape but the charge to play is excessive for the overall condition of the facilities. The staff were friendly. The GPS apparently doesn't work on most golf carts which is poor.
Kellydenis,
I'm sorry to hear the course was not up to your's or our standards. We'll be taking a closer look at the bunkers and tee boxes you mentioned. Thank you for the review and we hope you'll come back and give us another shot when you're in the Niagara area
Variety of holes
Although wet from 3 days of rain still accessible in fairways , greens drainage great . Hole variety still challenging - pay attention to yardage markers - they work. Worth the dollar.
jonesy12,
We are glad to hear you enjoyed your time at Thundering Waters. We strive to offer a challenging and well-maintained course. We hope you'll come play again.
awful
This course is absolutely awful for the 68 bucks we paid.
No driving range anymore, the bunkers have not been groomed in a very long time. Over grown, not groomed or cleaned. One year there was actual modelling clay in them. Terrible.
There wasn't a marshall on the course and the pace of play was slow as slow can be. There wasn't any need for it as the group in front of us was at least a hole or maybe a hole and half behind.
Oh, and we had to ask for a cart that had GPS. Not all the carts have it, and the ones that do have it apparently don't all work. This coming straight from the starters mouth.
3 years ago I had a cart that the emergency brake didn't work and I was told to park the cart on flat ground.
We are surprised that John Daly would agree to have his name associated to this course.
bwll777,

Was a desirable course years ago-not any more!
Very, very disappointed that this course has, been let go. Years ago it looked, played, and, was maintained like the advertised photos. There is minimal upkeep of the course, no nice white sand bunkers, anymore, weeds and any left over dirt from construction perhaps! It is only moderately challenging now that it is so shortened. Still a shot makers course and I enjoy the challenging of having to "place the shot". 4 people asked, for their money back, slow play; 1 young guy had to be,greeter, starter, took money in pro shop. I don't mind paying the price for a morning coffee..I do mind that I had to chase around for someone to get a coffee and even then the pot, wasn't on. This course has gone off the radar of what, you must play. There, are, better, around at,better prices!
Thank you for the comments,
We are sorry to hear your experience here at Thundering Waters was not what you, or we, wanted it to be. Please come back and see us again.
Nice course, staff needs some help
Played here twice now (3-4 years apart) and have had issues upon arrival both times. First time I arrived for a 6:30 tee time (prebooked and paid online) and the front gate was locked and couldn't get in the driveway 15 minutes before my tee time. 2nd time playing last weekend in May and arrived at 6:45 for a 7:30 tee time and there was staff there but they didn't have a key to the proshop because the person didn't show up for work. The person who was there was really nice about it but still, they had tee times online starting at 6:30 and the guy with the key doesn't show up?
Weather was poor (raining and cold) but enjoyed the round, I like the course and it was in good shape. Food and Beverage prices are a little ridiculous. Cost us nearly $6 for 2 coffees and they were K-cups.
GPS screens are still on the cart but they don't work. I asked the starter to turn ours on and was told "no they don't work, that's why we don't advertise GPS anymore." They should take them off the carts then.
I can forgive some things as the course was in good shape, but its very frustrating about staff not showing up, especially since its happened to me twice now.
tmedlyn2,
Thank you for the comments. We are glad you enjoyed the course. We will look further into your issues at the Pro Shop.
Very Nice
The course and it's facilities and staff are great. No complaints at all, I like to play here at least 3 or 4 times a year and it never lets you down. Always a great experience
Very poor value
This course is more pricey than others in the region, but the course conditions are poor, particularly the tees and greens. The course design by John Daly is tricked up and you are going to lose a lot of balls if you are not familiar with it. The carts are equipped with GPS, but most of them do not work. We tried to exchange a cart because the GPS didn't work and the attendant stated that they didn't have one that worked. No one would play this course a second time.
Thank you for your comments,
We're truly sorry you had a bad experience. The GPS is something we're trying to improve. We can be confident there will be a solution in the near future. We hope you'll come see us again.
Dissapointing
The welcome at the bag drop and the pro shop was excellent and friendly.
The pros: the staff, moderately challenging course
The cons: No driving range, the traps and tee boxes are in dire need of upkeep and maintenance, the clubhouse cafe ran out of different items, and this was a slow day.
The photos you see of the course were taken in better times.
We teed off at 11:30 and by the time we reached the half way house on the 11th hole (second time passing it out of four) it still was not open.
Used under par vouchers and glad we did I would not have wanted to pay more than we did.
very surprised
I have played this course many times over the last few years, this was the first time this year. They are letting it go! Fairways are filled with bare spots and clover, seond cut might as well be deep rough, greens actually had dadandelions growing out of them, bunkers were hard sand and bunker egdes had not been cut in at least 2 weeks! The worst part of this course were the tee boxes. 16 of 18 looked like the image i have attached. I loved this course for a long time, but they have obviously stopped spending money on the things that matter most to the customers who love to play a challenging well kept course. They did however keep the green fees the same. Will not go back this year. Oh and the turn around clubhouse (lionsden) was closed until 2pm when they had a tournament starting. Told me where their priorities were. Pace of play however was very good.
Thundering Waters is quite possibly the most beautiful course in Niagara
The overall shape of the course is fantastic except for the greens. The greens looked diseased and were cut very shaggy which made putting difficult.
