Thundering Waters Golf Club
About
Thundering Waters Golf Club, so named for its proximity to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, has a unique layout that combines a parkland course with the tricky elements of a heathland golf course. There is an interesting combination of drivable par 4s and scenic par 3s that will provide a formidable test for even the most skilled players. The golf course first winds through heavily wooded patches and then finds its way to rugged hills dotted with thick fescue where true links-style holes with deep bunkers and large, undulating greens await you. The layout also features several doglegs and more than 100 bunkers strategically placed throughout. Water hazards come into play on 10 holes. Thundering Waters Golf Club was Canada's first John Daly signature golf course.

For a 'Premium' course, it needs much work
Too many par 3's, not enough par 4's. Bunkers in poor shape, most not raked. Many inconsiderate other golfers that don't replace divots. Grounds keepers need to repair some fairways due to the divot problem. Won't be back.
Dry and playable
Course is in amazing shape for April!!!!
....not sure
TW is a neat place to play. Been there several times since opened. Cool course. Definitely some Daly input; a little crazy lol; God bless him. Beauty greens; challenging; love 'em. Decent amenities and staff, over the years, has been very friendly and welcoming. Here it comes.....my two cents.....THE BUNKERS!! What the heck is going on with these. Number nine, down the left side....what? Number 15; are you serious?? If they ever got ALL their bunkers in order; the place would be five star....well 4-3/4 anyway....I'll save the five star rating for the day I play in Augusta....LOL.....dream on!! Keep up the good work TW.....and when you get those darn bunkers in order.....you'll have to turn 'em away at the door you'll be sooo busy!
A little gimmicky, but refreshing
As someone who usually plays from the whites and scores on average in the mid-80s, Thundering Waters can seem a little gimmicky. There are several short par 5s, short par 4s and plenty of irons off the tees.
This could irk some people, but it's a nice reprieve from some of the other courses in the area where you sometimes feel like you just have to hit as far as you can over and over. I feel like the quirkiness of the course design challenges golfers to make aggressive or conservative choices, and rewards a shot-maker.
The more I play this course, the more I appreciate it. The only downfall (outside of the pretty terrible bunker conditions) is that it usually runs $10-$15 more expensive on GolfNow than some of the other comparable courses nearby, so I play it less frequently than I would otherwise.
Thundering Waters
This course is in great shape considering the time of year.
Thanks for the great feedback! We really appreciate it, come see us again!
Looks can be deceiving
Distance between some greens and tee boxes are a long way, so riding is a must. The grass conditions are generally very good. This is a target golf course for most holes. They designed the course with way too many bunkers so accuracy off the tee is necessary. Larger landing areas are needed for most players. Golfers with handicaps 12 and below would enjoy this course. It's designed to look good but it's not forgiving for the 15 and higher handicappers. Also could use a better practice area. Hitting into a net is not my idea of a good warm up.
Thank you for your feedback. The course was definitely designed to be a challenging round, but we do offer 5 different tees for different levels of play. We’re glad you enjoyed the conditions, we work hard to maintain our greens. We hope you come back and see us again soon.
Very enjoyable round
Had a great day. Weather cooperated. Course was in excellent condition.
Love when the weather's on our side!! Thanks for the kind words, we really do work hard to maintain the course in great condition. Come see us again soon.
From the Blacks
For the time of year the course was in very good condition, the greens in great shape. I have played this course several times before but this time we played from the black tees. This made it a little more challenging but more enjoyable to test my skills. The staff that was there that day did a great job getting us going even though the pro shop staff didn't show up for our early morning start. Definitely a good course to play but challenge yourself and play the long tees, it really brings the hazards into play.
Thanks for the feedback. It definitely does get more challenging with the more yardage, but it is fun to test your skills! We're glad you enjoyed the course, please come see us again soon!
Amazing course
Beautiful course well maintained I had my best game ever there!!!!
We're so glad to hear you had your best game at TW! Thanks for the kind words, definitely come back and see us again.
Challenging layout for the average golfer
I played from the blue tees. The holes aren't very long but you have to use good course management. Shots have to be played strategically to setup good approach shots to tight greens...sand traps were in terrible shape....they hadn't been raked in days...greens were in terrific condition...par three tee blocks need better yardage markers
Thanks for the feedback, and some good tips for golfers. We're sorry to hear you were disappointed with the traps, we do work hard to maintain the conditions so we hope next time they would be more to your standards. We will definitely take your notes into consideration. We hope you can visit again in the future.
Very enjoyable
The course was in great condition. Staff extra helpful and friendly.
We love to hear this feedback. We definitely work hard to keep the greens looking great and give our guests the best experience possible! Come see us again soon!
Decent Track
Course overall was good, the greens and fairways were excellent. Tee boxes were very rough and beat up. Some holes seemed to be shorter than marked, especially the par 5s. Some said they were over 500yds however had a couple second shots that were well under 200yds in and I'm not a big ball striker off the tee. Staff was friendly. Would play again if I got another good deal on GolfNow
Thanks for coming out and for the feedback, we're glad you enjoyed the course. We hope you'll give us another visit soon!
Great Condition
Great condition, atmosphere and a fun layout to the course. Has some great scoring holes. And beer prices are affordable.
We're so glad you enjoyed the course! We work hard to make sure the course is challenging and fun for our guests! Please come out and see us again soon.
GREAT TIME
Was a great day. Staff was excellent especially the starter who bent over backwards to try and accommodate everyone.
Thank you very much for your feedback and great review. Do visit us again soon!
Very good but a bit of work to be done for excellent!
Course overall was in good shape. Tee boxes and sand traps were the only aspect that were sub par. Crab grass a bit too prominent on tee boxes and bunkers could use some attention. Fairways and greens all excellent. Always enjoy the layout...a risk reward and strategic shot sort of course.
Thank you for your feedback. We do our best to keep up with the course and appreciate it. Do visit us again soon!
Poorly Managed
The course itself is fine, well maintained and in good condition but the staff is horrible. There is a halfway house that you pass about 4 times during the round and it was closed. On top of that, there was no cart girl or service for that matter the entire day (keep in mind it was 30 degrees and sunny) so if you didn't bring snacks or water, you only had the turn to load up. The real kicker is they didn't even make us aware of this before our round started. As for the pace of play, not one Marshall to be found the whole round and we needed one! The starter was not friendly, at all "boy was he in a good mood...." you could tell he really liked his job and wanted to be there! This course will be non existent if they don't give their head a shake and change the golf operations.
Trevor, I'm sorry that you had a negative experience with our staff. We take all feedback very seriously and address all issues with those involved. We would relish an opportunity to show you a better experience in 2016, and if you'd be agreeable to this, please contact our GM.
Great condition
Course was In great shape. Fairways and green were just in immaculate shape. Most of bunkers were freshly raked and seemed to have new sand. Only a few substandard sand bunkers. The layout was good, except for the first hole which needs to be lengthened by about 50-100yds. Lots of terrain and bunkers. Overall an enjoyable experience
Thank you very much for the 4 star review. We appreciate your feedback regarding our first hole and hope you will visit us again soon!
Definitely not one I would seek out to play again
Front staff was rude both times I showed up, then the marshal made a big scene when he thought my energy drink was a beer. Course was in great condition just the staff ruins the experience.
Thank you for your comments,
We are so sorry to hear that our staff at the course was rude.. We like to ensure that we hold our staff to an exemplary level of customer service and deeply apologize for your experience. We hope you will come see us again.
Quirky
In one word, I would describe Thundering Waters as quirky. The style of course is a twirl of parkland, marshland, deciduous tree line and nuances of links, but not one character trumps as a theme. However, the risk and reward structure is clearly visible.
The course can be very fun for aggressive players and boring for conservatives. 6 par 5's are highly playable blended with strategic short par 4's and hard par 3's round out a unique golf experience. Personally, I've learned to warm up for the first few holes and then go aggressive to maximize your scoring and of course, enjoyment.
At the moment, the greens are firm and roll well. The bunkers were very playable unlike past times; it was very professional for the staff to take note and follow thru on the maintenance. Moreover, the maintenance crew were visible working hard thru out our round so kudos to them.
But back to quirky, I have never played a course were I got so many odd bounces off solid shots along with uneven lies on every visit so be prepared to work on odd stances.
Other than that, I can see why the mast of golfers enjoy Thundering Waters.
Hello Chuck,
Thank you very much for your 4 star review and feedback. It's always great to hear when people have fun on our course. We do our best to keep up with the conditions so that everyone has a good time. Do visit us again soon!
Great course
Challenging course, well kept and friendly staff. One issue was the GPS system on the carts were taken off. I hope they get those functioning because it offers a large screen with accurate GPS.
This past time I played encountered a slow day. Usually it is not an issue but we were backed up this past time.
