wet and cart path only
They said course conditions were great but far from it.
Wet and u had to walk forever unless u hit it by the cart path as it was cart path only, even though they said we could drive anywhere BEFORE booking.
After the Rain
The course was in pretty good shape for April. Especially for only being open for 2 days. The greens were somewhat bumpy and slow but it's only April. The pro shop staff allowed me to postpone my round for 40 minutes due to the continuous rain. I joined some other golfers and had a lot of fun in the sun.
Pretty good deal overall.
A Classic Canadian Course
As many know, Glen Abbey has been home to the Canadian Open on numerous occasions/years and that alone is enough to warrant spending the money to play. The first few holes aren't overly inspiring by any means but once you arrive to the valley holes, it's at that point that the course starts to shine. Also, holes 16, 17 and 18 are great finishing holes (especially if you are playing a match with friends). I wouldn't go back to "The Abbey" frequently to play golf but will certainly say it's a must play.
Nice Test
Had a good late season round at Glen Abbey. Enjoyed it and managed to finish is about 4 hours, which is excellent.
Course was in good shape for this time of year. Greens were a little slower than they would plan in the summer, but given the wind, this was welcome.
Off the bucket list
I always wanted to play this course, thank you to GolfNow the price was great so we booked on GolfNow and played.
Amazing experience
hack fairways
lots of divets on fairways and putting area was ruff
Worth trying
Good course. Impatient players
Wonderful Golf Experience!!
From the moment of arrival to moment of departure, this was an excellent golf experience over two days / two rounds. The friendliness of the staff, and the level of service provided, are very top-notch - from the parking lot / "bag drop" guys to the service folks in "Eighteen" (DO plan to spend some time enjoying this very nice restaurant operation in the clubhouse, and its views), and everyone in between.
And the golf? A very good test, and a course that offers a fairly rich history for only being 40 years old - be sure to read the plaques at various places during your round, especially regarding the unimaginable shot from the spectacular 11th tee, and the remarkable run described at the 15th.
Overall, the course condition was probably slightly below expectation for the course that annually hosts its national championship, but i think that this was largely due to very challenging effects of the unusually dry summer throughout the region; clearly it is very well-maintained. As i have previously commented, i am not a fan of the 1-5 star rating system - there's just too much room between a 4 and a 5. Glen Abbey easily earns solid 4.5's or better for condition, design, and overall rating, but is not quite a "5" at this time.
Having said that, it is surely not to be missed - get out there and enjoy all of this wonderful experience before the planned "bulldozer of progress" makes it only a memory!
Great experience - always wanted to play here
Great golf course! Tough conditions with wind and rain but worth it. I will be back!
Slow paced round
This was my first time playing Glen Abbey, which was especially fun because we are 3 weeks out from the Canadian Open being played there. They were already setting up the grand stands.
However there were a few downfalls:
1. When booking through Golf Now it was indicated that the round included GPS in the carts. This is incorrect. When was asked someone about the GPS we were advised they removed the GPS devices a long time ago.
2. The course was cart-path only. It wasn't rained, nor has it rained in several weeks. They have enforced this rule for several weeks leading up to the Canadian Open. This was not indicated on Golf Now. This is similar to if a course is aerating the greens, this should be noted in advance of booking.
3. Pace of play was extremely slow. This was a combination of the fact that it was cart path only, and that the course was extremely busy. An employee told us that it is always this busy.
4. Staff wasn't very friendly for a course of this level. It was our first time there and there wasn't anyone working at the bag drop, or advising us where to go to check in, where the carts where, where the first tee is, and there wasn't a starter working.
5. The 11th hole was closed. It was in perfect condition, but I believe they don't want anyone playing the hole until after the Open, so they had a temporary hole setup.
There where a lot of grounds keepers working to get the course ready for the Canadian Open.
Conditions was just ok!
The course conditions was just ok! I was expecting a bit better with the price they are charging!
Of course I still had fun on the course
Thank you for your response and I'm sorry that we did not meet expectations. While the golf course did winter quite well, the cold and wet weather in May have been a challenge, including snowfall on May 16th. We're so glad you had fun and do hope you will return during the summer months to experience excellent playing conditions.
Amazing experience
Glen Abbey was an amazing experience. Great facility with all the amendments you could ask for. Everyone should play this course at least once if they have the opportunity. I was impressed with just the front nine but once you get to the back you know why you came and why the Canadian open does as well. Everything I could of asked for and more!
Thank you very much for taking time to post your positiveexpeerience. We very much enjoyed having you and look forward to your return visit.
First time playing there
I'v been to glen abby to watch the canadian open . I finally got to play it. Did not disappoin.
We're very pleased to hear that we lived up to your level of expectations.
first round of golf for the year
What can you say about Glen Abby Golf Club, when you get out of your car we were met in the parking lot by staff who took our bags and us to the club house we checked in while our golf bags were put on our golf cart with my name on it. We then took a walk down stairs and took pictures of the pros that were coming lockers ,we then went to the practice area before our round. This is an awesome course to play. This was on mine and my son in law to be bucket list courses to play and truly lived up to our expectations totally beautiful scenery , course was very well maintained. I have never play on a course that has so many bunkers i felt i played most of my round from them. Thanks to all the staff and playing partners for a truly unforgettable day .
Thank you for your very positive review. We're very proud to hear about such a positive experience and hope to see you again.
Overated a bit
I live close to the course, but it was the very first time I played there. It is a good course, but I don't think it's good enough to hold international events like Canadian Open. The front 9 holes were a little boring, some renovation was going on at some of the back 9, and the rough was pretty thick. It was like a pre-season partial open house, which was why the deal was so great. Not worth for their regular fees, definitely.
Sorry that we missed meeting your level of expectation, but we do hope you try us again in season.
Glen Abby Golf Club
The excitment you feel when you pull into the coarse is indescribable, especially if your not a Clublink member and don't play here often. The coarse opened a week ago and it was in amazing condition. The greens were very slow though, but not unexpected due to the early season.
The only issue was that #13 the Par 5 was closed, perhaps getting ready for the 2016 Canadian Open. They have a temporary par 3 in its place, not sure how long the hole will be closed for.
I would definitely return again especially after the exceptional Golfnow rate we paid
Thank you very much!
Not The Glen Abbey Of Yester Year
For the price and the prestige of playing the Abbey you think you would get what you pay for, but sadly no. The carts are basic and I needed to call the club house to get a new one as mine ran out of battery on the 16th, and so did the pair behind us, same hole. We couldn't play the really nice par 5, 13th as the weather had damaged the breaking wall. On the 1st tee, the group scheduled behind us teed off before us, even though we were at the tee box. I played the Abbey before Club Links took over and it's night and day, and not for the positive.
We're sorry that we did not meet expectations on this visit but we do hope that you will return during the summer months to experience our quality of product and service in-season.
Always a favorite but very expensive for non-members
I have always appreciated Jack's design and generally love the course. As a Clublink member I can play for very little cost.
If I were not a member I would not play for the following reasons:
It is definitely not worth the $280 that is currently being charged.
Pace of play is brutal during pay as you play times. It can push 6 hours.
There are tournaments literally every day and they chop the course up.
Thank you for taking time to respond. Yes, Glen Abbey is a very busy golf operation. We're very proud to have it part of ClubLink and pass along savings to our membership. Pace of play can sometimes be affected by hundreds of people, that day, receiving an experience worthy of the great history of the Canadian Open.
pace of play well below standard
Course is very well kept front nine not too interesting pace of play was abysmal
First timer at the Abbey
It's not very often that a course I've been wanting to play, actually lives up to expectations - Glen Abbey certainly did...and then some. I've played a handful of PGA Tour-level courses over the years but none have been as enjoyable from a golfing perspective as the Abbey. From the first tee, I was amazed at the course conditions especially considering it's already October. Every single green was in immaculate condition - like we were playing in the middle of summer. Course layout was very enjoyable as well - fairly forgiving off the tee to accommodate a wide range of skill levels and small, challenging greens that are quick but roll true. Each staff member that our foursome interacted with were very pleasant and treated us as though we were members. I used to play golf a few times a week but now with 2 kids I can only get out maybe once a month...it was definitely a nice treat to play Glen Abbey for the first time and have such an enjoyable experience - I will definitely be out to play it again.
Thank you! We look forward to seeingyou again.
Thank you for taking time to respond and for your honest feedback. Clearly we did not meet your expectations on this visit. Obviously, as you could see by construction of the grandstands, pre- tournament workload is increased and we're very sorry that it showed on your visit. Our standard of service is very important to us and we very much hope that you will visit us again.
