Winchester Golf Club
About
Winchester Golf Club is a short and sweet 5,200 yards from the tips. Those looking for length will have to go elsewhere, but if you want a quick round, this course can be played in less than four hours. The course is situated among Brooklin's gently rolling hills, which are covered by forests that are part of the Oak Ridges Moraine. The player-friendly layout is ideal for beginners. It is also a great place for kids to learn how to play. The golf course is not difficult by any means but it provides good practice. There are a few challenges spread throughout, including a fair number of bunkers bordering the greensides. Its forgiving nature and risk-reward opportunities make it a great place for golf tournaments as well.

Don't even think about it
There is nothing good to say about this place
Four and half hours to play the executive course
Many of the tee's had no grass at all Some had backyard grass that wasn't even cut, which was more like un kept Rough
There was no golf course grade grass on the golf course. The ground underneath the grass was just like a backyard hitting down through mud making shots near impossible.
Poor value for any dollar
The only good thing I can say about this game was that I played with a very nice gentleman who made a very long day enjoyable
Good way to get your golf Jones out
Winchester is a popular local course. Its fairly inexpensive and not overly challenging. Its the kinda of place where you brag about your lowest score of the year. If you play regularly you will want to shoot from the golds though. they are equivalent to whites on most other courses.
This course is hilly that gives it a lot of character.
For April, this course was in very good shape except for the greens. They were very bumpy because of the aeration that was done last fall, but they will get better with a little time. The course is quite hilly but this makes it more interesting to play. The staff are very friendly and the course has a laid back atmosphere.
Eagle challenges for 80 handicapper.
Great fun for the the first game of the year.
Some tee off boxes need to be replaced with new sod.
Course can be challenging, very unique layout
Ground was very hard, tee off went miles. Greens not in great condition or maintained, some tee off spots the same. Would not pay regular price for a round
No one is moving the play along
The staff in the pro shop are fantastic. The only problem being is that they overbook so the play is very slow. It should have taken 3 to 4 hours to play but most holes were backed up 2 to 3 deep. The golfers behind us were impatient so they continually hit into us. The one marshal that was out there would point you to the wrong ball just to try to get people to move faster; It turned out that there was a group of 6 hackers playing 4 holes ahead of us that held up play. Will not play here again unless its free and then maybe not!!!!
Fun course but busy day
I went to this course on a Sunday after it rained all day Saturday, which may have contributed to the large turnout of golfers. Staff was friendly and we showed up a few mins late for our tee time, which they accommodated without any issues. The course conditions were good, with the exception of a few tee off areas that were not maintained and were more dirt than grass.
The course was very backed up, due to large number of golfers, at times we had to wait for at least two groups to tee off before we could proceed. Course could also use more signage to indicate where the next hole is, as some holes were difficult to locate.
All holes are located very close to one another with, so there were some balls that crossed onto other courses, but wasn't a big issue.
It was a great course for the price and on a less busy day, I would definitely go back.
Good Course for Fun
This is a short course that is very playable. It is a par 70 that has many par 4s that are very short, but too long to be a par 3. It is fairly open, the kind of course that you can hit a few errant tee shots and still not lose your ball. It's fun and is good for what it is, but don't go there expecting it to be a real test.
Nice Course
Golfed here 3 times this year, nice mix of long and short holes, nice layout. Well maintained. Always friendly.
Great course for the thinking golfer.
This course is not a very long course but a very challenging course as it requires one to use all the clubs in your bag. It is a very tight course so course management is very important. Some holes are between 200 and 300 yards so taking out the driver and just blasting it can cost you some strokes if your not hitting straight or your hit it too far. Lots of different elevations so you really had to think your way around the course. I found the course really made me think each shot and was a great change from a lot of the bigger courses I have played. All in all a fun game of golf.
Course was ok, slow pace of play
Course conditions was good. Slow 4 some in front and did not have courtesy to let faster people pass. all bunched up after them. Marshal came by at 16th hole, but did not do anything as it was almost finished.
Weird Layout
The gentleman in the pro shop offered to get us out before an amateur foursome (we were just a twosome) but the starter then overruled him, which was odd. The hole layout for Winchester is weird as the course is crammed into a small area. The architect obviously had to get creative with the layout of the course while still trying to make it a par 70. A lot of the tee boxes are adjacent to nearby holes which makes stray shots from other golfers a dangerous hazard. We almost got hit on several occasions throughout our round which was rather unpleasant. The course is a bit "mickey mouse" as most of the par 4s are less than 300 yards. The course conditions were good, everything was maintained well, greens were in great shape.
Fine local GC
Some holes were under rebuild / repair during our game and the Greens were very fast which in turn caused far too many putt outs for most people...hence the on-going delays in play. Staff were great.
Didn't Even Start
My tee-off time was booked for 3 at 9:15am. We checked-in, and the starter/cashier told us it was being moved to 9:22am and that he only saw 2 people checked in...after resolving that issue, paying and getting our cart ready, it became how busy the course was already. 9:50am rolled around and we still hadn't teed off yet. Realizing this was going to be a 5+ hour round and the fact that I had to be somewhere by 3pm, I had no choice but to get our money back and leave. The marshall had appeared at the first tee for a brief period, but I had no idea what he was doing there. There was no way we were going to enjoy that round, and the cashier/starter even tried to give me a rain check instead of my money back, like I was going to come back.
As much as I understand it was a Sunday morning and it was a gorgeous day out, you can't just jam people on the course like that and I'm glad we made the decision not to start. At 9:15am you shouldn't be 45 minutes behind already, there's no excuse for that.
The attached photo was how it looked 15 minutes after my scheduled tee-off time. Rest assured I won't be going back, and I hope this helps you.
GARBAGE course was in terrible shape ,The tee-boxes were lacking grass.
Half the tee-boxes were in garbage shape, 1 of them had you teeing off from artificial turf on a couple of skids side by side with the art.turf on it the greens were lousy at best lacking grass on them spots of dirt ,chunks out of them. overall I will never play this course again, for the money the value was not there.
Fun course that was not to hard to score well on !!
Nice compact layout...good country course for seniors, beginners and higher handicap golfers. Started to rain after 9...but we had lunch, the weather cleared and we were easily fitted in for the back 9.Tee box condition and hole signage could be improved but greens and fairways were well maintained.
All enjoyed the day and this course's challenge.
Good Times Finding Balls
Played 18 holes with my wife. She enjoyed the course because she found at least a dozen golf balls. I believe she thinks that's how you keep score.
If that was the case I was sorely whipped.
Fun and interesting
This course isn't too long, but there is enough variety to make it interesting and fun. A couple of the greens and one fake tee need attention, but overall the value is good and we love it.
the tee blocks were in poor shape
This short and easy course could really benefit from some attention to the tee blocks. Several were short on grass and on one we had to hit from a mat! The few ball washers there were had no water or towels. Due to poor signage we got lost between holes a couple of times. The upside was that we played midweek and virtually had the course to ourselves.
geat course conditions and reasonable yardage for the average golfer
a great course for the average weekend golfer as yardage length per hole is realistic to make a par on.
