Cherry Downs Golf and Country Club

With many courses still closed, it was good to play Cherry downs today. Although the course was quite wet, the staff have the place ready to go! Other than damp conditions, I didn't notice any areas of winter kill.

Had lunch in the clubhouse afterwards and the food and service was good.

Great day at Cherry Downs! Very challenging but fair layout. Course is in fantastic shape.

Fairways were in poor condition as were the tee boxes. The greens were dried out and cut way too short which caused uphill putts to turn around and run off the greens on many of the holes. I played this course for many years going back to the mid 1980's and have never seen this course in such a poor condition. Also, the carts were terrible as the brakes when locked kept releasing and at one time started rolling down a hill, ran over my foot while I tried to stop it. Had to call the pro shop to replace it. I will never play this course again.

Have to admit this course really beat me up! Yes, the greens are tough (lots of undulations; probably faster if the humidity wasn't so high when we played), but the fairways are narrow, tree-lined and hilly. You'll be advised to club up on the par 3's because they're uphill. Would also help if you've played the course before - more strategic in picking out your targets and in your club selection. The total yardage is not long, but the par 4's are long, with the par 5's relatively short (but winding). Some of the fairways were chewed up. Very scenic however.

Always love playing “The Downs.” Course was in great shape again! Will be back again!!

The Pro Shop staff were very friendly and courteous. So was the starter and everyone else.

The course is in great shape, greens were rolling well and fast. A lot of fun to play a course with ultra fast, tap the ball greens.

The Club House waitress was brutal. I very seldom lose my temper but she was that bad. Ignoring me for 15 minutes while she played on the computer. Never acknowledged that I sat down. Then I had to enter the kitchen to find her again because she was too busy laughing with the kitchen staff. A quick snack took over an hour. Another waitress took over because she knew I was mad. She ruined a good day.

I have always enjoyed playing cherry downs. It’s a great second shot golf course. Unless you are a single digit handicap - play the white tees rather than the blues. The white tees provide a solid enough test. Many greens have false fronts and slope back to front. The greens are very speedy so I suggest you always try to hit your approach shots to finish below the hole. I would suggest playing the longer par 5 holes as 3 shot hole rather than risk drivers to some of the more narrow fairways.

Great course for the price - nice practice facility. Course in great shape, but tough. Greens are super tricky!

Very hot day so was hoping for a quick round. We got behind a very slow foursome, nobody ahead of them, would have finished at least 30 minutes faster if not for them. Marshall said he would check it out but the pace never improved, over 4 1/2 hours!

Interesting and challenging course. Many narrow approaches. Plays longer than the yardage suggests.

This is a great course that rewards accuracy...with a slope rating of 134 from the Blues, it does not disappoint. Every shot must be carefully thought out.

Greens were lighting quick with a lot of undulation... don’t leave it in the high side or you will pay the price.

Staff was freindly and service was great. Free range balls was a plus.

I will definitely be back with the knowledge that I gained from a very enjoyable round.

Rent a cart if you don’t like a hilly walk.

Course is in great shape, very challenging. Long course for all. Have to be accurate. Lightning fast greens, which they they are known for. Tons of nesting Japanese beetles on the fairways, hope they keep under control.
