Oak Bay Golf Course
About
Carved from the scenic woodlands along the eastern shores of Georgian Bay, Oak Bay Golf & Country Club incorporates rocky outcroppings and natural water features into its challenging championship design. The eastern coast of the bay is one of the largest freshwater archipelagos in the world and is home to diverse flora and hundreds of varieties of birds and fish. Both the fairways and greens are sloped and well manicured. In addition to the many natural challenges, which include trees and ponds, there are numerous strategically placed traps to watch out for. Oak Bay is located less than two hours north of Toronto but its beautiful setting makes it feel much further.

Hole 15, Par 3, If you make it over, green is two tiered! Photo submitted by taz4golf on 10/04/2013
Wait Until It Is Finished
Nicely maintained. Lush green grass. Quirky layout during the construction of the clubhouse. Target golf off of the back tees with too many forced lay ups. Greens rolled beautifully. Staff was not accommodating for a single golfer. Customer service should be unobtrusive. Will not be back.
This course was not interesting at all.
This course was very challenging and almost all the holes were the same challenge. (Hit over 100-150 yards of swamp) . There were two holes that were different and therefore interesting. I would not recommend this course to anyone.
Beautiful Course. Excellent Value
My Wife and I really enjoyed our round at Oak Bay. We found the course challenging but fair. It was beautifully maintained, scenic and interesting.
We really enjoyed that just about every hole was independent of the rest of the course. You rarely if ever ran into other golfers on other holes as you could not see them until you arrived at the next tee.
Another hidden gem
The course is wonderful. The fairways are nicer than some greens I've played on. The rough is thick and if you are a good golfer and put the ball in the fairway, the course will reward you. However if your an average joe and don't always hit it down the middle there is trouble everywhere!
You do start on hole 8 while the clubhouse is being finished. They do a pretty good job to make it clear where your going and what not.
The staff however, could care less about golfnow.com bookings. The staff apologized for the manager or supervisor because he is so strict with people starting early. We had booked for 4:09pm and we showed up 45 minutes early to check in and see if we could get off if there was no one playing (Can normally get off early if the course is empty). I would like to mention we did not tee off until 4:09. Not one golfer went out during that 45 minutes.
I will play this course again, but if they treat customers who want to come out for the twilight rate with less respect. I will not be going there multiple times a year.
Unbelievably tough track except for the 1st 3 holes.
2nd time playing this course in 2 weeks due to the enjoyment 1st time. Course is in pristine condition from tee blocks to green Very quiet. Incredibly tough challenge as a mid to high handicapper as myself. As stated before make sure you bring plenty of balls; very unforgiving on those errant shots. Incredible value with Golfnow.
Great Course
Great course. Well maintained. Will be quite nice when the clubhouse is up and running.
Oak Bay is a magnificent trek through the Muskoka wilderness, where every hole demands one's full attention.
Don't let the make-shift clubhouse and temperary parking lot influence your experience at Oak Bay Golf and Country Club. This is a thoughtfully laid out, well manicured 18 holes designed to test every club in your bag. 4 sets of t-boxes and smooth rolling greens will keep you coming back, but the rough is extremely punitive . Keep your ball on the fairway or first cut or bring a calculator-the numbers will get ugly. Every hole is a unique challenge, but # 15 will be one of the hardest par 3's you will ever play. I can't wait to get back.
Great layout, very challenging but playable
I love the track, need to play a few more times to get used to what clubs to hit. Conditions & staff are great.
Poor Staff ruined the round.
I have now played this course this season in hopes that the first time was an anomaly. But unfortunately it was not! I must say that the staff working in the pro shop trailer are by far the worst in the industry. They have no sense of customer service skills, and their knowledge of the history and etiquette of the game are a inadequate. We should up for our 4:00pm tee time at 3:00pm in hopes to look around and maybe get off early, there was 5 cars in the parking lot at the time (1 being mine and maybe 1 other a staff member). We asked if we could get off a little earlier as it was completely empty and out of the consideration for the staff, so he didnt have to wait around until 8 or 9 for our cart. He made us wait to exactly 4:00pm on the dot to give us our cart key.... the group in front of us were 11 holes ahead of us when we teed off. Not only did this happen once to us, we booked another time to see and it happened again... They have a serious hate on for GOLFNOW golfers and almost treat them like garbage! very distasteful.
on the other hand if you ignore the ignorant staff the course is a great test of golf.
Best value ever.
This is a challenging course with tee areas for all skill levels...bring lots of balls though! I cannot say enough about this course, there is no greater value for your golf dollars than here. I will continue to choose this course when it's up to me over any other facility in Simcoe or Muskoka.
well kept, nice looking coarse.
the coarse is it great condition. Leave your diver in the bag!!
Very nice course!
This is a very challenging course. Some narrow fairways. You need to be able to keep it in the fairway as there are lots of slopes that take your ball off the fairway or into the bushes. Greens were unfair at times as short irons didn't hold the greens and rolled off the back most of the time. Its a very nice course to look at as its over the bay and some great looking holes but needs to be more forgiving.
Wow --What a Great Secret
This course is a jewel --hidden in the north It is in beautiful shape --The greens are in perfect condition and the course although a little challenging for this player is a delight with one of the hardest par 3 holes I have ever seen-- this course is a must play if you are in the area-- and if not close-- it is worth the trip
Great condition.
Wanted to try out this course and had seen it advertised in local newspapers. Was pleased with the experience and it will be really nice when the permanent clubhouse is finished.
oak bay golf course
absolutely a great golfing experience. course is not long but you better be accurate. probably has 4 of the nicest par 3's you will ever play especially the 15th hole. be smart and leave the driver in the bag for most holes. if you play a round without losing a ball I would be surprised as trouble lurks on almost every hole. be humble and remember that perfection is unattainable
Potential for a good golf venue
This course is more challenging than it appears. In due time, once all the amenities are established it will be a great venue for golf? Players would benefit from some type of GPS system (blind shots, unknown hazards and limited yardage markers combined for some regrettable shot decisions).
It provided an unusual playing experience mentally since you do not play the proper order of holes 1 -18 but some mishmash version of the 18 holes.
Lack of amenities and the current playing order of holes would have me hesitating to play here again until these are resolved.
Pretty Golf Course
The golf course is very well kept. The first nine holes are mostly carved out of the pine trees .. the landing areas are small and club selection is a must. Par 3's are substantial especially the 15th the signature hole. The back nine is again carved out of the pines until you get to 17 par 3 .. short but tough.. and the finishing hole 18 is a beauty .. Overall tough golf course but if you use your thinking cap it is managable to get around .. take lots of balls!!
A muskoka gem!
Course was in terrific shape and the greens roll true. Oak bay requires shot making abilities off the tee and proves to be a diificult task for both single and high handicappers. I'm looking forward to returning to oak bay but remember to be fully stocked with golf balls because of the white stakes outlining the track.
challenging,scenic,pristine course
Magnificent course but lacking club house facilities. Mix up in starting starting as they had two foursomes and a twosome teeing off at the same time. It seems that members dictate when they will start even with no reservation.
A hidden gem!
Great course that will be even better when the clubhouse is completed. The course was in great condition, from tee to green, no disappointments. There are a lot of protected areas, so bring extra balls. Make use of the course guide book provided and enjoy your round!
