Pheasant Run Golf Club - Highlands
About
Pheasant Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of scenic, challenging golf. The nine-hole Highlands Course features a rolling landscape that is dotted with dense thickets of mature trees. This layout is the longest of the three nines at 3,380 yards from the back tees and it is also considered to be the most difficult. The golf course has a target-style layout, much like the Midlands nine at Pheasant Run Golf Club, with plenty of trees and elevation changes that demand accuracy. The undulating terrain also provides scenic views of the surrounding countryside. The golf course opens with a long par 5 with a narrow fairways cut among cedar forests.

Great fall day for golf! Photo submitted by jonefraser on 10/20/2012
Too firm, 5 some???
The greens were rock hard. The fairways were even harder. As a single handicap I enjoy fast greens but many of the greens were not hold able. No divots possibe from most fairways
To top it off we were playing behind a 5 some for most of our front 9. No cool yet sanctioned by the course on a busy Friday afternoon
I won't be returning
Challenging but picturesque
The slope of the course leads to a challenging task of placement accuracy, but the elevated tee boxes gives you a reason to love the sport.
The fairways and greens were a little patchy at time, but overall a great course and great day out of the office.
Tough course
Played here a few years ago and the course tested my accuracy. Decided to give stay away out of fear to work on my game and came back this time playing smart and very pleased with the outcome. On each hole i decided not to play smart I paid. Wonderful course and scenery. Saw a few Deers coming out I the forest and got some stunning pic. The pheasant burger is fantastic as well.
great value for the money
I was pleasantly surprised on the great shape the course was in and great value.
Great value from golfnow.com
Very enjoyable and challenging course. Regular rate a bit too steep but a great value at discounted rates from golfnow.com.
Greens Improvement
The greens are coming along nicely. Fairways are in good shape. I understand the rationale for tee block removal but suggest that you re-install them.
Staff as always are friendly and professional. I would like to acknowledge Randy (starter) in particular as being particularly accommodating to our interest in good pace of play by being flexible at the turn to which course we ultimately play.
Pretty shabby conditions
Really disappointing and sad to see a place neglected that used to be a top notch facility. The greenskeeper should be fired. I understand the winter was tough on courses but besides the winter kill overall conditions aren't up to standards for Ontario public courses. Grooming, rough, fairways and bunkers are just too rough. It looks as though no one cares anymore or they're trying to save money. Really disappointed because this used to be a top tier public course. We got a deal $59 and I wouldn't have paid more than that for the conditions. A simple weed wacking beside tees would have been sufficient. Bunkers are like the parking lot. More sand needs to be added or replaced altogether. Won't be going back anytime soon.
Pheasant Run was enjoyable day of golf
Very nice course east of Newmarket. 27 holes that offer a bit of parkland and mature tree lined forest. Reminded me a bit like Woodington Lake.
Beverage cart was cash only, came around every few holes but I only had a credit card.
I will play here again. Worth the drive from Whitby. 50 minutes or so.
well maintained
The course was very well groomed and maintained. The fairways are long but forgiving due to some larger landing zones (not for the long ball however). Great round overall. Worth looking for deals online to lower the cost.
Excellent value
Couldn't believe the price 39.00
Including cart !
Was more than satisfied with course conditions , I thought that there was going to be some bad areas and that why the price was so low.
You made me a believer in Golf Now.

Great conditions. Course has good layout and sufficiently challenging
Course is in great condition and has a good layout - combination of water hazards and uphill/downhill shots. Challenging yet fun. The special deal from GolfNow makes it good value.
Bad course management
Stick with me here...booked a 7am tee time thinking I could get in 18 and be at work by noon..which I've done before.
Paired up with a good single and a slightly less than good double...and we were first off at 7. It took 2:20 to play...a crime being first off. I mentioned a couple of times how nice it was that we were first off and could finish quickly...hint hint...nothing. A marshall should have come by to say...hey, there's no one in front of you...you could probably play a little faster.
Anyway, get to the turn and it's backed up...the starter saying 'it's full today' as if that is an excuse for a 3 hour back nine.
Ever play behind a 70 year old beginner? This fellow was 20 yards off the tee and lying 4...I'm not kidding. His playing partner not much better. I've seldom seen it but these guys should have been given their money back and ask to leave...no business playing that course. And it was pointless to pass them...as the starter so often reminded us that it is full out there. I and the other single I was with both agreed it it was time to leave...that would have been a 5 hour plus round easy, likely closer to 6..and we tee'd off first.
Sure, they had a great deal for 39$ tee times... but that doesn't mean I should suffer a miserable round just 'cause it's full out there..again...as the starter so often reminded us.
It'll be a long time before I go back to Pheasant Run.
Oh...I play Westview a lot and have never been backed up like that at the turn on their 27 holes.
5 Stars
First time playing Pheasant Run was a very satisfying experience. The staff were friendly, the course moved well. We played a twosome through match-up by starter. Although early, the course was steady but two foursomes let us through resulting in 2 hour 50 minute round. Outstanding! Would recommend to others and will play there many more times

Great course with very challenging greens
Course was in excellent shape. Fairways and greens were kept in great condition. Pace of play was very good. Greens are tough and require patience and skills.
True rolling greens
I was overall impressed with the conditions of the course. The Gwen's were true and the fairway were consistent. Tee boxes were good but a few lacked a flat stance. Pace of play was great. Staff was friendly. We were late for our tee time and they were understanding. We were one of the early tee times so understand not seeing a beverage cart in the morning but we did not see one all day.
Very mature course; poor shots will be penalized
Played at 8am on a Wed morning. Was surprised at how few golfers were at the course so our foursome finished very quickly. Staff was great and the course is in wonderful condition. Pheasant Run is truly a hidden gem in the GTA. We got a great deal on Golfnow so we lucked out. Regular rates are quite pricey. Not worth hitting driver on every hole because the tree lined fairways are not forgiving.
This course is good
There is a hole at the Upland course still under repair and has a fairway green.
Fun Course No 18 replay rate
The course can be challenging from the blues and pretty fun. The green speeds were inconsistent but in good shape. My biggest complaint is they try to charge you 30 plus tax for a replay for only 9. there is no 18 hole replay rate just full pop. If you are like me and the people I play with we are always up for a second round and it was pretty sad to see that they won't do what every nice course in Ontario does which is offer a great replay rate to not only show your course off but keep people coming back. Normal rate is 100 and there is no way I would pay that to play there, so many other courses out there that are less than 100 and much better. In my opinion.
Will not go back
Payed $110 per person, peak time. Overpriced would not pay more, than $65-70. Food overpriced, thin grass on the fairways, Could not find 100 yard markers on some holes.
Overpriced
Course was in good condition. Fairways are undulating so there are few flat lies. This is a course that has to be played a few times to know where to lay up especially on the Midland course. At $100 including cart this course is overpriced compared to similar courses.
