Pheasant Run Golf Club - Highlands
About
Pheasant Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of scenic, challenging golf. The nine-hole Highlands Course features a rolling landscape that is dotted with dense thickets of mature trees. This layout is the longest of the three nines at 3,380 yards from the back tees and it is also considered to be the most difficult. The golf course has a target-style layout, much like the Midlands nine at Pheasant Run Golf Club, with plenty of trees and elevation changes that demand accuracy. The undulating terrain also provides scenic views of the surrounding countryside. The golf course opens with a long par 5 with a narrow fairways cut among cedar forests.

Great fall day for golf! Photo submitted by jonefraser on 10/20/2012
Course needs alot of maintenance specifically greens
The course was in good condition but the greens were ridiculously poor. The cost was almost $100 which I think was very high for the course condition. I would definitely not recommend this course at this price or any price until the greens are fixed.
Greens are TERRIBLE!!!
I don't normally write reviews but I've played here in the past and it has been a pretty nice course.
Played a couple weeks ago and the greens are in TERRIBLE shape. Thought it was a good deal for this course but realized the reason why after playing and talking to members. One of the holes had a temporary green made out of the fairway (distances were way off). No one at the pro shop or starter even mentioned how bad the conditions were or that there was a temp green on one of the holes. Just out to get your money I guess.
Definitely not worth the money and would not play here again for any money unless the greens get a LOT better.
At the very least they staff should have made us aware of the conditions and gave us a coupon for next year or something. Not a good experience.
Greens are completely sub par
Unfortunately they have been having severe grass problems with their greens this year since early July. They are unplayable and the people in the pro shop are not up front about it. Most everyone working outside of the pro shop apologized to us because we were not told about the problem before hand. One of the course attendants went so far to say he doesn't like playing there this year and they get to play for $2.50. Honestly you would be better off going to a target golf range rather than play here.
very nice course
when i booked this hot deal few days before we played there WAS NO COURSE ALERT! greens were airraited and putting
was very difficult to judge, we had played this course in the past
and like it so hopefully in near future when we will we enjoy it again
$95 for that?
I've played Pheasant Run in the past and was pleased with the course. Course conditions during the 2012 season were impressive and worth every penny of the questionable $95 green fee.
This time, however, I was not impressed with the golf course and will be sending a note of complaint to course management.
Working in turf management for five years, I understand the need to aerify greens during the summer months, but having performed the activity on numerous occasions, whoever was responsible for overseeing the aerification process should be fired.
The greens were not playable. Some were not cut, which for a public course that I'm sure gets most of its play on the weekends, makes zero sense to me. Pin placements were a total joke, most going through dead spots. When you're charging a $95 green, cut your greens every day. This isn't a ma and pa operation - this is touted as one of the premier public courses in the GTA.
Get your act together Pheasant Run. I will not be going back. Clublink here I come.
the course condition can be better
the green is hardly playable with all the aerations taken place. One hole has to redirect to a replacement green and so confusing. When bringing the matter to the attendant, she said sorry but there is nothing she can do.
Unless it is a 2-1 special now, I dont think it's worth it.
Fairly nice layout but they aerated the greens a week earliar and did not indicate it on golfnow.com booking. I don't like when they do NOT post info
Would not recommend course. Golfnow.com did not notify you that course was recently Short course with a few interesting holes
Great Course - Horrible Greens
Great course layout and really interesting to play. Some holes are quite a challenge. The greens were airated and sanded apparently a week earlier and were still in absolutely horrible condition. Asked re a possible discount off green fees when play next time, and was referred to Head Pro; left a message and never heard back. Not the way to do it.
HM / Toronto
The Greens were destroyed which ruined the round.
The Greens were destroyed which ruined the round. It was impossible to putt which made scoring impossible. It will not be fixed until next season.
Greens were unplayable
If I had paid the full price for this course I would have been furious. They were airatting all the greens and not one staff member thought it was even worth mentioning. After the round I mentioned if and one of the staff said we all just take 2 putts. Very disappointing if you pay full price and are not even playing the full game. Won't return ever.
Poorly maintained - greens were in terrible condition and full of aeration holes
Pheasant Run is a decent layout but is in pretty much minimal maintenance mode it appears. Why is anyone's guess, but it's pretty obvious. The greens were in really poor condition, which given all the rain we've had is surprising. Can't recommend playing here in it's present condition, as there's no true roll on the greens. And even on the greens that weren't poc-marked, there was little grass to speak of. Maybe next year it will be better but without maintenance dollars this place is sliding to oblivion sadly.
Be advised
No marshall and greens had been recently punched which made them unplayable. We should have been advised before paying to play.
rolling terrain is not always a good thing
Some people are fans of sloped fairways. I am not. You should be rewarded for striping your tee shot down the middle, not disappointed when you go up to your ball and find that your great tee shot has rolled into the rough because the fairway is slanted. Infuriating. The course itself was in relatively good shape, except the greens which were all aerated/sand filled to try and fix heat damage from this past couple of months, so they were basically unputtable. To compensate us, the pro shop gave us all free green fee passes for our next visit, so that was a good thing. It's a decent course but I would never pay full price to play here.
It's a shame (at least for 2013)...
Well, at least I received 24% off the full-fare price via GolfNow, but it still was not enough for what is normally an excellent layout at Pheasant Run. The greens had just recently been aerated and that on top of the fact that some of the greens are simply in awful condition (#6 on Uplands is the prime example). I spoke to a member after my round and he said the greens had been lost for much of the summer, which is unbelievable considering the darned near perfect summer weather we have had. I guess I missed the alert or did not see on the website that the greens had been punched; otherwise, no way I spend almost $100 (including the GST). At least give a further discount or a free dog and beer!
The only saving grace is I showed up a bit early (I was a single), got out ahead of all groups and played in 2.5 hours. Rest of the course in pretty good shape.
Also, why no discount for walkers?
I won't play on this course again this year and for the money, not sure how often I will be back in the future.
The price was right!
The course was being worked on when I played, airation and top dressed green. The maintenance is probably what made this such a good deal, on top of the GolfNow last minute booking discount, they were offering a 2 for one that day. If you didn't bring a friend they gave you a rain check to come back, not bad! ($22/round including cart!). And for some reason there wasn't group for me to play with so I played solo, good practice round, drop a couple balls, just couldn't practice putting.
I have played this course many times (not for a couple years since last round) and it is a good track, however some of the tee blocks were chewed up. For some reason they were using a temporary green (I assume) on the Highland course which throws off all yardage (bring a range finder). Fairways are good for a public course, sand was good (no rocks), rough was OK. No divot mix on the carts.
The beer cart was a little steep, maybe a good thing as it limited me to 1 beer. $9 for a tall boy ($10 once you add tip).
Beautiful course, tight and challenging fairways and greens
The course is tight with trees and woodland along the fairways making this course play tight. The day I played the course all the greens were just aerated and were not very good to play so they lost points with me for that. However, they offered all who played that day a free round of golf for that reason which was an honorable thing to do.. Overall a beautiful course to play.
Get some grass on those greens!
1st time out. Loved the 9 hole Highands, much more challenging with more variation in the landscaping than the 9 hole Uplands. This course loses two stars because the greens are in very rough shape as only 3 or 4 holes had proper greens, the rest were in need of grass. It felt like you were putting on a fringe/tee/sandtrap! At the end of the day "you drive for show and putt for dough" and this turned me off enough to not return this year. I will try it again next year with hope that they have fixed the greens.
pheasant run STAY AWAY
Greens are absolutely horrible.
Asked for nine hole credit which was not given.
GM has no idea about customer satisfaction.

Course condition was disappointing
The condition of the course was very disappointing. The greens were very hard and in bad condition. The fairways approaching the greens were also very hard. There was no sand on the carts to allow divots to be repaired, although given how hard the fairways were, divots were very difficult to take. This is a beautiful golf course but the course maintenance leaves a lot to be desired and compared to other courses in the area this is not worth the money.
