Pheasant Run Golf Club - Highlands
About
Pheasant Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of scenic, challenging golf. The nine-hole Highlands Course features a rolling landscape that is dotted with dense thickets of mature trees. This layout is the longest of the three nines at 3,380 yards from the back tees and it is also considered to be the most difficult. The golf course has a target-style layout, much like the Midlands nine at Pheasant Run Golf Club, with plenty of trees and elevation changes that demand accuracy. The undulating terrain also provides scenic views of the surrounding countryside. The golf course opens with a long par 5 with a narrow fairways cut among cedar forests.

Great fall day for golf! Photo submitted by jonefraser on 10/20/2012
Pheasant Run (Southern Uplands/Highlands)
All in all, the course was okay - fairways were nice but the greens were mediocre (only 2/18 were in good shape).
I'm right handed and from a layout standpoint, there were only two hole that did not favour a fade so I will say that it was pretty boring. Also, we played from the back tees and I still felt that it was a pretty short course.
From a pricing standpoint, there are far better options within a similar distance from Toronto and I dont think that the course lives up to the hype of being a premium facility.
Condition of Course
Considering the course is a Semi-Private, my partner and I found it to be in the BEST Condition of all the other courses in this area. We thoroughly enjoyed the day considering the weather was threatening, but we lucked out since it started to rain just as we completed the 18th green. Great course layout.
Greens
It's all about the greens man! Count on an extra putt each hole.
Both Bourses very beautiful.
Had a vey good time. The two nines we played were both challenging and interesting at the sometime. A good day had by all.
Beautiful course layout
Some greens are not in good condition, still under recovery. Other than this, everything else is neat!
Disappointed!
At this point in the season every coarse should be at their best. Well, this coarse is not. The greens were awful. Patchy at best and very sandy. Not worth the $100 each that we paid. there's many coarses in the area that are cheaper and in way better shape.
Thanks,
Bob
Worth the trip
I have played here about 5 times now and the challenge doesnt get easier. Course is a bit pricey without a golfnow deal but conditions are always at least good to great. Staff manager was great when i requested a raincheck one round. The kind of course you need to play at least once. Might be a little tough for beginners.
Disappointing
Not worth the money, should be a $60 course max!! Probably once upon a time was a descent course but looks like they have 2 types of grass on the putting. Greens now due to damage.
some tight shots
The course it self was challenging, however, the long hard winter played havoc with the course conditions. Both fairways and greens were very patchy.
Beautiful and challenging
From the blue tees it is a tough course. Lot of elevated tees and greens. Hidden lakes and danger that you don't notice as a first time player. Overall a great challenging course.
Great Conditions
Perfect pace, was not pushed and did not push anyone. Course conditions were perfect especially considering our long hard winter. The grounds crew has done a wonderful job getting the course ready for the season.
Nice course
Looks bit narrower and unforgiving, but looks like pro's course layout which made me more concentrated.
Almost always there are walls of trees, or some water hazard, so straighter shot will be required whatever the carry.
Some great scenery there (esp. at some Tee decks at higher altitude) which will never make you boring. (but might be hard to walk,, too many up and down, I recommend to use power cart)
Green condition wasn't so bad considering long and hard winter.
Fairways are well maintained as well.
A Real gem of a course just north of Toronto!
Definitely one of my favourite courses in the Newmarket Area. A bit pricey if you pay regular price but give it a try using golfnow. You won't be disappointed. Course seems better run now with a new General Manager too!
Great weather
Greaet weather, excellent course conditions. I would expect a better power cart for the money (no GPS, no rain cover for clubs).
Beautiful layout but poor maintenance
This course has some great holes but I was surprised to find such poor maintenance. Greens/fringes had lots of rough patches. The rough looked like they were neglected. They charge $100 for spring golf. Poor value.
Great conditions for early in the season
Greens were in good shape as was the course in general for this time of year.
just opened
first round of the year coarse just opened
no damage from the winter that we could see.
good shape
