Pheasant Run Golf Club - Highlands
About
Pheasant Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of scenic, challenging golf. The nine-hole Highlands Course features a rolling landscape that is dotted with dense thickets of mature trees. This layout is the longest of the three nines at 3,380 yards from the back tees and it is also considered to be the most difficult. The golf course has a target-style layout, much like the Midlands nine at Pheasant Run Golf Club, with plenty of trees and elevation changes that demand accuracy. The undulating terrain also provides scenic views of the surrounding countryside. The golf course opens with a long par 5 with a narrow fairways cut among cedar forests.

Great fall day for golf! Photo submitted by jonefraser on 10/20/2012
One of the best public courses in the area
It is always a pleasure to play in this course even though 3-4 holes can be less enjoyable. Even at this time of year, a management staff was clearing dead leaves from the T-boxes, which made me feel cared about. It is almost as good as a Club Link course in every aspect. The only thing is it's kind of too far from my town.
Great course
This is a great course delivering both value and an excellent golf challenge.
This course is well maintained.
The course is still in good shape even thought we are approaching at the end of the season.
Becoming a member next year
I strictly squeezed this late in the season round to make a decision about becoming a member next year. I will be joining in the spring.
Great, challenging course, well maintained, and great friendly staff throughout.
My gf and I played quickly, with no group in front of us, and it helped to establish a great rhythm, so pace of play was very quick. Pheasant Run is challenging, but fair. The greens putt true, but are fast, and can move left or right over three feet or more. The course was wet from substantial rainfall but it drained well, and we did not find many puddles or soft spots. I have already talked to my golfing buddies to play here next spring. We will definitely return to tackle Pheasant Run again.
great features and great condition
very challenging course, can be a ball eater. great views in a fantastic local.
Great course.
For fall golf, course was in great shape. Very friendly staff and tee times are well spaced. Usually play here 5-8 times a year, and every time is well enjoyed.
pretty course to play
nice course to play in this fall time, but too many lady bugs hanging around. it's a great distraction. I do enjoy playing at Pheasant Run every time though!
Beautiful course
I much enjoyed Pheasant Run Golf course natural beauty with its old pine and oak. The fairways were well kept. As far as the greens, they were ruff and bumpy. I guess the golf course was recently in its aerification process. It seems that they should at least give us some warning of the condition of the greens if not, a reduced fee.
this is great course
this course is really challenging, well maintained and fast green.
This course has great features
This is a hilly course and the fairways are mostly undulating and the greens elevated, fun to play.
Friendly staff
First thing you will notice is the friendliness if the staff there. Kaneff course staffs, you can learn something from these guys. Overall the course is well maintained with the exception of #5 (double green) on Highlands. Staff mentioned they had issues prior to start of round. Course is well layed out. Played from the blue deck and it was the right length for anyone that can hit the ball 270+. By jets in fairways are placed strategically so you will get into trouble if you can't shape the ball. Fade wight the driver seems to work for most of the holes.
Overall for my first time there, I was very impressed and will be returning soon
not as bad (anymore?)
Read some of the reviews before playing, but was willing to take the chance, since we were paying a "hot deals" price. Haven't played here for years, and was prepared for bad greens. Well, people, it wasn't so bad! Perhaps conditions have greatly improved - yes, there is one temporary green (#5 Highlands). Most greens showed some bald spots, and signs of previous punching, but were certainly playable. If I hadn't previously known about them, I wouldn't have noticed. The course itself is very scenic, and certainly not a pushover. Hilly, with some narrow tree-lined fairways. Would have finished in under 4 hours (playing on a Tuesday after Labour Day), but ran into a slow group with 4 holes to play. I would have no hesitation to recommend this course.
conditions still not to par
the course conditions are less than stellar and to charge full price is unthinkable.
Nice layout
Pheasant Run runs through forest and has lots of elevation changes, water and interesting hole configurations. It has a nice vibe. The clubhouse is like a cottage which is a really nice touch. They're a bit inconsistent with taking the bags out of the car -- they charge a premium green fee so they should be on it. Beers on cart are also quite overpriced which feels like nickel and diming. They've got some groundskeeping issues -- one temporary green and a few greens pretty patchy. I'd have no quibbles at all at a slightly cheaper rate of about $70. Their rates, even on golfnow ($89) are a bit high -- while the full rate, at over $100, should never be paid.
What happend to the Greens
The winter kill on the greens is still very evident. I hope this gets
fixed before next season as it is one of my favorite courses in the area. I won't be back again this year...
Overall greens in good shape. Not crowded although a bit slow.
Value for your money I would deem about a 6 out of 10 with 10 being the best bank for your buck. I guess their strategy of keeping prices higher scares away the hackers is working here. Great variety of holes and a challenge.
Treelined, hilly, tight and rewarding.
Greens had some burn issues or something. They've been punched early it seems. There was 1 temporary green. Course itself was in awesome shape and the staff are top-notch.
Course is rewards long and accurate tee-shots with a few birdie chances.
We enjoyed it very much.
good golf course
Old trees surrounded. Midland course is more challenging. recommended.
