Pheasant Run Golf Club - Highlands
About
Pheasant Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of scenic, challenging golf. The nine-hole Highlands Course features a rolling landscape that is dotted with dense thickets of mature trees. This layout is the longest of the three nines at 3,380 yards from the back tees and it is also considered to be the most difficult. The golf course has a target-style layout, much like the Midlands nine at Pheasant Run Golf Club, with plenty of trees and elevation changes that demand accuracy. The undulating terrain also provides scenic views of the surrounding countryside. The golf course opens with a long par 5 with a narrow fairways cut among cedar forests.

Great fall day for golf! Photo submitted by jonefraser on 10/20/2012
Bad greens
All the greens were garbage. They lost almost every green over the winter and none of them have come back. Played many other courses in the area with fabulous greens, might be time for a new greens person on staff.
Other than that the course was in decent shape and staff are great.
course needs a little TLC
fairways in decent shape. greens in poor shape. went with 2 members and both said they are probably leaving due to poor greens conditions, especially for the end of july.
Would recommend if greens were in better shape.
I do think this is a challenging track, and normally enjoy playing it, however the day we played the greens were terrible. They were beyond aerated, they were destroyed. Covered in sand and appeared as though the aerating machine ripped up parts of the green. Not sure why they would do this at this point in the season or using the method they did. give it at least a month before you go if you choose to play it.
Horible conditions
the greens are an absolute disaster and the rest of the course is staring to go down as well, such a shame for a great course!!!
the course is in terrible shape
i don't understand people that say greens are unplayable and yet still recomend to play the course.
Poor
Greens were deplorable, fairways average at best and the sand is like kitty litter. If you are a mid to low handicap and expect a high level experience then you should pass on this course.
Charging full summer rates for a club that resembles early spring conditions is not acceptable.
Would not play this course again even with the deal on golfnow.
Very Poor Greens
The greens at Phaesant Run were a total disaster. Most courses have fairways in better condition. Burned out, browning, damaged, everything bad characteristic you can think of in a green and it was evident. Very disappointed.
The only problem with the course was the greens. the rest of the course was in pristine shape.
The only problem with the course was the greens, the rest of the course was in great shape.
The course was in relatively in good shape the exception were 4 greens that needed more attention or work.
The course is very challenging with elevation changes and a fair defgree of difficulty. It was a fun experience but because of the problems with a few greens that were in rough shape I feel is overpriced or a warning should have been available.
If they were to be fixed I would rate it a 4-4.5.
well maintained course
Great course. Besides the sprinklers turning on while we were putting and two very slow groups ahead was a good experience.
Course is well maintained.
Great course, but current conditions of greens is horrendous
Play this course once a month and it is one of the most beautiful courses in the GTA. Lots of variety to the holes with elevation changes. Very challenging layout. Highlands is the best of the 3 nines. If you have a choice, play Highlands/Midlands. Uplands is okay if you like tight, target golf...big hitters will be disappointed. Good value through Golf Now, especially with a Hot Tee Time Deal.
On the day we played (July 25th), the greens were almost unplayable even though the fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. Looks like they've tried to do some reconditioning but some greens were almost bare, others had little grooves, holes, divots and other abnormalities from the aeration and de-thatching machinery. Greens that were coming back a little were overgrown. In all, putting was an adventure from green to green. Not sure if they were diseased or victims of sabotage, but it was a shame that this outstanding course has been been ruined by the condition of the greens. If you are booking in the near future, I would call ahead and ask about the greens, because you will be disappointed if you play in these conditions. When the greens recover, I would wholeheartedly recommend this course because it is outstanding.
A Very Good Public Course
One of the best value public courses in the GTA. Challenging, generally good conditions and great staff. Recent weather has stressed a few of the greens but based on past experience they will get it right soon.
Some nice holes. Too expensive for what you get.
27 holes. The highlands is great. the uplands is passable.
No marshals to speed pace of play and they like to jam people on the course. Makes for a long round
One of my favourites in Toronto
Close to Toronto; reasonable cost; beautiful scenery; 3 different nines allow course to manage tee times so that pace of play is good.
Great Layout + Good Value w. GolfNow
The first hole takes you through a tight, tree-lined fairway, and this sets the tone for the round. This course is extremely tree-lined and keeping the ball in play is premium.
We played Highlands-Midlands, which is supposed to be the best possible layout.
When we got to the 6th tee on Highlands, there was an extreme backup. The 6th on Midlands plays right next to 6 on Highlands, so we made the decision to play holes 6-9 on Midlands, and then play 1-5 on Midlands before finishing 6-9 on Highlands. The marshal didn't have a problem letting us do this, as long as we weren't holding anyone up. Luckily, no one was in front or behind us, after we switched courses halfway through the round. It was a great decision and allowed us to finish at a much quicker pace.
GolfNow rate was great too. $67 for the round, when normally it is over $100 through the course.
Play the 27
The course was lovely, the fairways were good, perhaps some of the greens might require a bit of attention. However the welcome and the service at the clubhouse was really nice, food is good too. And on top of it the environment was gorgeous (nature and facilities).
One remark we made, is that it would have been nice to actually play the 3 courses in the same day and experience the 3 designs and nature.
A great day in the end
Great course!
Very nice course, thouroughly enjoyed it! The staff was very friendly, great price/value.
