River Bend Resort & Country Club
About
Set along the Rio Grande River, this is a scenic course with spectacular views. The front nine was built in 1987, and the back nine followed in 1992. The highlight of the course is what is perhaps the longest water hazard in Texas, the Rio Grande River, which flows along holes 5 through 13 on the left side of the fairway.
Narrow fairways and grass bunkers make the course tough, especially when the wind is howling, as it is tough to hit the small, firm greens. Water is everywhere. No. 14 is the only hole without water. The par 3 17th hole, with its island greens, headlines a series of demanding par 3 holes. The last hole plays 434 yards into the wind and has out-of-bounds on either side of the fairway.
Getting there : From Harlingen take Hwy. 77 south. When you come to Hwy. 802 turn right, then continue until you reach Hwy 281. Turn right again and drive approximately 2.5 miles to the course

Upon arrival checked in with nice lady in pro shop, the pro shop doesn’t have much to offer. Went to driving range the tee area was lacking greatly for grass mostly dirt. The starter was a very nice person and we got started. The course was ok much like a muni course very average, we caught up with the group ahead of us in about three holes and things got very slow for the rest of the day on one par 5 on the back side there were four groups one on the green, one in the fairway ,one on the tee box, and one waiting. Finally saw a Marshall on 13 or 14 but not sure if anything changed. Overall it’s a course I would play again but it is a little over priced and if I had to drive more than 20-30 minutesi would look for something else.
Good course
We had an enjoyable round of golf. The course was interesting and in good condition. We would recommend it!
Sunday’s couple’s afternoon
It pace started off great ,, the course wasn’t too crowded ,, however I got to the 3rd hole I was greeted by a a group of 7 who said they have a couple’s group … they skipped hole 1 and 2 because of the size of the group .. I had to skip all the way to hole 6 because these people will cut in front of you without an anoucment.
Very /Wet
The course is a nice one but the course was VERYY MUDDY. Tire track all over the fairways as people were driving on the fairways.

Saturday, a very slow round - waited every hole ! Group in front of us must have finished with at least 4 holes open in front of them. Started round at 10:07a and finished at 3:03p on 18. Had on course associates but question if they advise groups to stay up with groups ahead or that hole should take about 15 minutes. Otherwise a great course!
