Coyote Ridge Golf Club, opened in 1999, features some unusual holes that traverse a variety of unique terrain. Each nine is strikingly different -- the front plays through a burgeoning residential community, is generally wide open and void of trees, and takes on the characteristics of a links-style course.

Water comes into play six times on the front, including the extremely difficult ninth hole, which doglegs left around a lake that stretches all the way around the green. Survive the tee shot by bailing right if you have to, but consider laying up on the approach since the water bends all the way around and surrounds the green on three sides. You’ll still have the chance for an up-and-down par, and playing for bogey is much better that rolling into the turn after a double-digit disaster.

Also on the front, No. 7 is a fun par 3 because of the 70-foot drop in elevation. The tee shot goes 165 yards over water into a very wide, challenging green.

Coyote Ridge Golf Club's back nine rolls through an abandoned rock quarry along the Trinity River, featuring more trees and elevation changes.

Nice facility

The greens had recently been plugged for air. Very slow pace, the group in front of us had a player that had probably never been on a course before. Never once saw a martial. 4 hours and 40 minutes.

Beware of punched greens in June

I've never played greens punched in June. I wish I was warned and I would not have wasted my time or money today. It didn't help that the jerks ahead of me were slow and didn't know how to wave a group through. The layout was the only saving grace for this place. The rest was your average muni. The punches greens were a complete surprise to me. In Texas, this really only happens in March and April. I don't plan to come back to this course.

Punched Greens Don’t Take Away From Great Experience

I was just passing through the DFW area and wanted to get a round in before my flight. After reading a lot of reviews of different courses (there are *almost* too many options to choose from) it became apparent that I was in the middle of aeration season so I just picked the one most convenient to my location that wasn't too much, Coyote Ridge.

A lot of things to like about this course. First and foremost, the service and amenities are fantastic for a round that can sometimes go for less than $40. Very friendly staff, valet cart service, free range balls (mats only when I played), great restaurant and locker rooms facilities, and good practice facilities.

As previously mentioned, the greens were only a week past aeration and it really showed. Definitely a 2-putt max situation with lots of unpredictable bumps and speed changes. I made just one put over 6 feet and it was mostly luck.

Other than the punched greens, the course is also still recovering from storms and flooding. It doesn't really affect play though but there are several detours for the flooded cart paths. These temporarily issues aside, the course is in great shape with fantastic fairways and well-maintained tees, rough, and bunkers.

The layout here is unique and there are a lot of fun holes including several challenging par-3s that are long or over water. There's also a very good variety of par-5s with some get-able in two, others that really force a layup but all of them manageable. Three shorter par-4s bring your round to a relatively forgiving finish but many may not appreciate the funky finishing hole that takes driver out of your hands (for most players) and requires marksman-like accuracy off the tee and a delicate approach shot to a shallow and unreceptive green that slopes front to back.

Pace of play was a mixed bag. With a tournament teeing off in front of my 3-some, it took 3 hours to play 11 holes, but they then cleared out and we finished in a respectable 4:05.

Just awful

What you need to know - i have played every course in DFW over the years. I am very fair and honest when I write these reviews. Coyote Ridge.... is just awful. The fairways were perfect. Tee Boxes are filled with weeds. Greens had just been aerated (with no mention from staff) and pockmarked and sandy. Several bunkers had exposed areas of carpet and lining. Several flooded areas, including a permanently flooded area on the back 9 around holes 10, 11, and 12. The trees they planted a few years back now reach the ground and the mowers must be broken - I lost several balls within 5 yards of a green/fairway. The flooded areas also cause a massive amount of mosquitoes to be present, and they loved me. The experience was a total disappointment. I had to quit after 12 holes due to insect bites and losing my 2 sleeves of balls (I am a 3HCP). I do hear the 19th Grille has a great burger, but I was in no mood for food after this disaster of a round. My advice - skip it until the waters recede and they can maintain the course properly.

Greens were punched about a week ago

I have played here twice now and have enjoyed both rounds. The greens were just punched so obviously not perfect greens but still a fun course tee to green. The staff is always very friendly, and even though there were several 5-somes on the back 9 pace of play was good.

Where'd they go?

Usually very busy and very slow pace of play, this day was pretty wide open and every one seemed to respect pace of play. Greens had been punched a few days earlier so making puts was near impossible but rest of the course was in pretty good shape considering being flooded for 2 weeks,

Course was flooded

I get to the course, start to pay and staff informed me only the front nine was open!!! Why didn’t it say that on the golf now signup! I had 2 friends drive an hour just to have to turn around and go to another course. I blame coyote ridge more than you guys. Because of lake Lewisville letting out water this course may be under water all summer. Buyer beware.

Give me a Heads-up PLEASE

The back 9 was closed due to flooding. Why didn't Golf Now or Coyote Ridge call, text or email me to let me know!?!? Why was I not offered a refund/rain check?

Course was in very good shape, where not flooded. We had to play the front 9 twice. The first go-round was fine as there were 2 Marshalls on the course, but they disappeared after we made the turn and things really SLOWED down. First 9 was played in about 2 hours 10 minutes while is not horribly slow, but slow. The second 9 took 3 hours with never seeing a Marshall and the group in front of us was over a full hole behind the group in front of them., This SLOW play is consistent at Coyote Ridge. They REALLY need to do something about it. Some of my friends refuse to play there because of the outrageously slow pace of play which could be fixed very easily. Slow play is unacceptable.

Pace of Play Kills an Otherwise Exceptional Course

Loved just about everything about this course. Facilities were beautiful (driving range was a little small, but that's a minor complaint), prices were reasonable, and course was in phenomenal condition. Greens were even, smooth, and very quick. Obviously still in conditions for US Open qualifying. Lots of temporary water in certain areas of back 9 which required some unique cart routing, but all 18 holes were playable in full. Beautiful scenery throughout. Tough course, but in a fair and extremely fun way. Definitely tested me, but I never felt like I was getting beat up at all.

However, pace of play was dreadful. Initially started out as a single player then joined up with another single on the course. Other players in front of us were not friendly to us playing through, even though they were two groups of three that were basically playing as a group of six. Group in front of them was some sort of fraternity or other organized group that were plastered drunk and moving as essentially two or three groups of around six golfers each. No marshalls out to move any of them along or force people to keep up with those in front. Round of golf took about 5hrs 15 mins, which is about an hour longer than it probably should have. Did an awful lot of waiting on the back 9.

Easily one of the best tracks I've played so far in Texas, and well worth the money. But honestly, I'm not sure I'll come back again without a good reason to do so, or until I hear that they've started putting marshalls out to enforce pace of play and move slow groups forward.

Nice track

This track is not a bad track. Pace of play was slow today on a Friday. Houses are very close along the left side of half the fairways. Which shouldn’t be a problem if u are straight :) . My only real complaint is the price point I think it is 10-15 to high compared to other courses. Otherwise had a great time. Make sure to play early or late in the day due to traffic in the area.

No Warning

It was Mothers Day and they decided to focus 100% on their restaurant for Mothers Day brunch. NO cart girl and NO food available for purchase if ;you did not sit down an do the Mothers Day brunch, which is impossible to do making the turn from 9 to 10. They should have, at the very least, warned me when I booked so I could bring food. Major faux-pass.. They also had the normal cart driving paths around the club house blocked off for the convince of the restaurant and the determent of golfers. STUPID

7 hour round

Love playing this course, have played it a few times. But multiple times we were waiting on the tee box for half hour at a time. What should be no worse than a five hour round on a Saturday was over 7 hours I could not believe it. It got so bad that we decided after 16 we had enough. I never saw the Marshall out there, which is a shame because it is a fun course to play.
