Vultures over slowpokes Photo submitted by allergydoc on 11/15/2015
Course is great but pace of play slow
This course has always moved quickly until today when two groups of buddies decided to slow things down. Why should you allow 8 players on the green at one time? Newsflash rude dudes - when you have a pair of players behind you who are always waiting several minutes to hit their shots, let them play through. Really! When you have 3 groups behind them having to join up into a group of six so that their pace of play slows to the crawl you guys established and then ignore the request of the staff to speed up play? You ruin the game with your arrogance, not to mention to score of those playing behind you with your slow play!
Amazing track
Always in amazing shape. Greens are some of the best I have seen. Staff was great. Keep it up.
Thanks so much your feedback and visit! We hope to see you back out soon!
pretty good
Made the drive over to try out the course, since I had heard about the renovations. It was pretty nice but I guess they watered pretty heavily the night before, because most fairways were still a little soggy around noon. Weather could have been a little warmer and a lot less windy, but not terrible. Greens were very well kept. Overall pretty good course for the time of year, lack of rain, and the deal I got.
crb15, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We appreciate your feedback on course conditions and we will be sure to look into the watering issues. We look forward to your next visit!
Phenomenal upgrade
I've played this course over 20 times. For those who feel it is overpriced, try playing a comparable (outstanding) course in a major city and you'll pay twice as much. Rick and his staff have ALWAYS been extremely professional and interested in your experience. The course is in stellar shape with the rains we've had and the greens roll true and quickly. I used to play the old version and this new design is SUPERB. Number 2 is a beast and probably the hardest hole in the Brazos Valley - private or otherwise. I've played them all and for a quick round, it beats driving 180 miles round trip elsewhere for a comparable course at the price. GIG 'EM!
A&M
Nice course, lots of sand. Good greens and fairways. Thick grass around the sand traps can make you lose a ball if you get in it.
Challenging for guys like me
This was my second round on the Campus Course, both purchased with an online discount. The other time I went to play it was going to cost me $68 and my pockets are not that deep.
I've played several challenging courses - TPC San Antonio, Miramont, etc. and this layout is right up there with them. I am not a long ball hitter ~200 off the tee, 17 handicap, so I played from the second (blue) tees about 5600 yards total length. It seems that on almost every hole there are fairway bunkers right where my tee shots land. I'm guessing that longer hitters teeing further back would have the same experience. I felt like I spent the day trying to avoid or get out of the fairway bunkers. The tall grass (8-10") on the sides of the fairways gobbled up a couple of my balls without a trace. There is water across and alongside several of the holes, but most of the time you can work your way around it. Only lost one ball in the water and it was a monster push of the 13th tee, my fault all the way. The greens were as fast as anything I play. I've never even see Augusta National, but these greens are hyper fast by my standards. The sign in the shop said they were stimping at 12, and it was every inch of that.
There was a slow group two groups ahead of us so there were sometimes two groups sitting on the tee box waiting for them to hit. Not the first time that's happened to me on a variety of courses. I don't blame TAMU for others slow-play practices.
The course if beautiful after its make-over last year. I had played it almost weekly before that and felt that it was a good fit to my game. Since the make over I've not been able to justify paying elevated regular cost so have only been able to play when I can get a GREAT online price. The increased difficulty of the course has increased my frustration level while reducing my enjoyment. For good golfers with deep pockets it's a very nice course. For old duffers like me, it's quite a stretch. I think I will play most of my rounds on other less expensive, less difficult courses in the area.
Great course
Great course, just way over priced for regular green fees.
Fast greens
Fun course it is in great shape. Undulating greens.
Staff needs some work.
As we were standing on the first tee box we saw we were playing behind one adult and two young juniors with no one make the turn or any where near # 10. So we politely asked if we could tee off on# 10 so we didn't rush the juniors. The manager came outside and told us no that we need to give them a chance and that a round of golf is 4 1/2 hrs. So we did and the juniors let us pass them at the turn along with the manager playing behind us with his group. So we played 10 11 12 and on 13 we saw the Marshall coming and he told us we needed to pick up pace off play and we told him we have been behind juniors all day and we just passed them and that his manager which was playing behind us told us a round of golf was 4 1/2 hrs long. The Marshall was very rude then he left. When we got done on 18 I looked at my watch and as a foursome we finished in 3 hrs and 50 min. Would defiantly recommend the staff to reevaluate there customer handling skills because the staffs is poor
Great for the price !
Short course but still offers a challenge .
Staff couldn't be friendlier !
Recommend !
Almost amazing..
The course is in very good shape. Fairways are cut well, greens are actually rolling supremely well, and the tee boxes aren't overgrown. The only reason I don't give 5 stars overall is because the price is a little ridiculous. The course is always empty because no one wants to pay their high prices. It's a shame, but it's their fault as well. Maybe one day they'll see that they could make more money with reasonable prices. Until then, I'll just wait for specials..
Nice Change
A buddy from Dallas and I (from Houston) drove in to CS for the weekend just to try out the new layout. We had played the "old course" several times in the past. Played 3 rounds in 2 days and it was a lot of fun. Mixed it up by playing from different tees each round. All in all, the new design is a nice track and a definite improvement over the old layout. Is it one of the best college campus courses in the country? Maybe not but I can't really say since I haven't played any of the tops like Harvard and Ok State but if they're given the budget to maintain it perhaps it will be once it matures.
The Good
- Nice plush fairways
- New lake where old ravine/ditch was along #2 or #3
- Several "fun" holes - #10 and #17 with double fairways
- Rolling hills and undulating fairways
- Multiple tee boxes for men
- Replay special - made the steep green fee more palatable
- Friendly and personable cart girl (Whitney)
- Complimentary ATM logo tees and ball marks - nice touch
The Bad
- Green fees too expensive
- Rough
- Rough around bunkers - controversial because I liked it and thought it added to the character and aesthetics but my playing partner thought it was unfair
- No course layout on card
- On course bathrooms were out of service
- No slope and rating for women on score cards
- Lack of grill and only food available at turn was a "mystery meat" sandwich
- Head/asst pro behind counter not very friendly
orientation
I really enjoyed the course, extremely challenging but fun.
I did have trouble finding the correct greens to play, on Hole 17 I played to Hole 2 by mistake.
I would like to see more distance markers. My Sky Caddy was still programed to the old course.
They are planting trees to help with that problem . I played it last month and watch some one do the same thing so i reported back to the Pro shop and Green Super about it.
It's not your old A&M course.
The renovation of the Texas A&M Campus Course is spectacular. Fairways are in excellent condition. Bunkers are clean soft white sand. The greens are finally starting to hold shots and they roll very true. There are two temporary greens on the course right now but the head pro said they will reopen those greens in the next couple of weeks.
A round with family
Nice course, I would play it again. Greens were great.
Response to last review.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sad to hear you didn't have a good experience , as the other review here indicates. Since the redesign of our facility we have heard nothing but good things so it troubles us when a golfer thinks otherwise. We hope to have you out again soon where we can ensure your experience will be better than your last. I can be reached at the Pro Shop at 979-845-1723 please feel free to call.

Avoid Course Staff At All Costs!!!!
The only thing good about this course is the grass and sand. That's it! The rest is a huge mess!
1. It's over priced at $65 a person on the weekend.
2. The head and asst. pro rush you to the tee box and treat you like dirt.
3. The 10th and 18th greens are temporary. The grass on these greens is two inches high. Good luck putting.
4. There's no course map. You have no idea which direction the fairways turn, or which fairway you play on. You will soend hours searching for your right flag, fairway and tee box.
5. The fairway grass has ripples in it, presumably from poor laying of the new sod.
6. The greens are too fast/too low cut and have grass damage.
7. Driving range is too close to the 1st and 18th fairway, so range balls litter the fairways, making it impossible to find your tee shot amidst all the golf balls.
8. The golf shop still looks outdated, ugly, embarrassing.
9. The staff act like your playing at Pebble Beach, and you should be lucky to be playing there.
10. You have to put a sticker on your windshield to keep from getting towed. Ridiculous!
Get off your high horse! This is a small town college course then, now, and forever. No matter how well you dress up a pig, it will always be a hog underneath.
I have played this course 3 or 4 times . I've never had a bad day there . I'm not sure way this person is so unhappy
Can't WAIT to play again!!!
"WOW" was my first overall impression of the course! The greens were in GREAT shape! The were a little on the firm side but true and VERY fast. 11-12 on the stimp. The fairways were generous on some and not on others! I would recommend playing with someone that has played it before or it could be disastrous. There are a few holes with false fronts and deceptive landing areas. The course was in between challenging and difficult in my opinion. Which is what I enjoy. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Pace of play was perfect even though I scattered a few and had to search in some unforgiving rough. And I would say the course was a bit overpriced but only for this area. It is on par for a larger market like the Houston area. Like I said CANT WAIT TO PLAY AGAIN!
