Extremely fun course
Course is full of big and very fun dog legs. This course is so much fun and can really make you work for it on some holes. This time of year can leave some courses in pretty rough shape but they have done a great job with keeping up with it.
Tee Boxes
This course was exactly what I needed, to start playing again after 6 months. My only real complaint, is that there are no tee box markers. Nothing to identify hole number or hole layout. I will be back.
Value course - worth if you are on east side
Its an average course in average condition but I got a Hot Deal price, $10+$5 fees=$15, that made this a great value.
Would like to play the course when its a dry. Will play it again if I can get another Hot Deal.
Good day
My 11 year old loves this course, always wants to play here. Pace was slow but that's what he likes and he finished with a 84! Not bad for 11, we will be back, thanks for the great day.
Ok Course, Terrible Managment
Course: Tee boxes could use some work. Fairway was not so good, they had been mowed when grass was too long and the trimmings just left there. Then it rained and created baskets of dead grass all over. Greens were receiving some needed TLC but based on rest of my experience there, doubt they will ever be good. The new carts with club and ball washer was a nice touch.
Reserved and purchased on Golf Now @ $25 each. Was a bit surprised when we got to pro shop and big sign on door stating that course was closed till 1400 due to private party- wedding golf tournament. Checked in and my buddy was approached by Jeremy (Course Manager) and told to get started asap and shouldn’t be a problem as long as we don’t start @ same time as everyone else. By start of third hole we were now surrounded by groups of 5-8 members on each hole and now felt like we are intruding someone’s special day/wedding. After requesting cart girl to have marshal come find us so we can move holes to be less intrusive – no one appeared. Father of bride approached us in middle of 5th hole to inform us that we are in the middle of a private tournament…… Needless to say – everyone was frustrated and made the entire day very SLOW & AKWARD. I went back to pro shop @ the turn – asked to see manager when a young kid asked how he could help. After explaining the situation, he basically said it’s my fault and nothing he could do. To say his attitude was bad would be an understatement – I again requested to see the manager. After waiting 5 more mins, Jeremy the manager approached and again I explained the situation. He blamed golfnow and that they sold spots before they could close it off to public. I asked when the wedding tournament planned (‘Oh I don’t know, months ago’). So why then was I able to book a tee time on Tuesday(4 days prior) when this should have been blacked out months ago?? Blank Stare. OR If you knew after Golfnow made reservation, why didn’t anyone call us and we would be happy to go book a new round. No I’m sorry or yea we screwed up, just tough luck and go fly a kite was the feedback I got. Even if he had offered another free round at course at later date I would haven’t accepted it as this course is meh and not worth the drive.
Dear UPPER Management,
Your current workforce is seriously lacking the leadership and accountability necessary to meet its customers’ needs and expectations. I have lived in Houston for past 6 months and golfed on average 2 times per week, I will never come back and will share my experience with my friends and colleagues.
Long drive
Got a very good deal on GolfNow for a Saturday round. Was a long drive from downtown. The course was nicer than I expected after driving through the town on Crosby on the way in. I really liked their new carts with the ball and club washer on the side. They had lots of greens under repair, you could play onto every green but at least half the greens had large areas covered in sand. Sand traps have pebbles in the sand. Fairways and tee boxes have healthy grass (but different grass species on different holes). Fairways needed to be blown, had lots of leaves. Layout was interesting except the ~5 holes which were narrow with houses. Played the back tees and it didn't feel like 6900 yards-- the par 4's are all short, most of the distance is on par 3's and 5's. Shot under par without much difficulty. Overall it looks like they're putting some good effort into repairing greens and course conditions as a whole. The course is comparable to Country Place (prior to renovation) or Clear Creek. Would play again for this cheap (<$20 on a Saturday) if not for the drive, will probably play elsewhere instead.
good value
first course I played while visiting Houston on vacation. staff was friendly. Golf carts appeared new and clean.Tee boxes need to be mowed. the greens were running fast.the bathrooms were very clean in the club house I played this course several times.
Newport
Greens were a little rough as they were in the middle of doing some patch work on them and fairways need some growth. However none of that took away from a great round of golf.
Great Upkeep Maintenance
I haven't played this course since May (5 Months) and when I pulled up to the parking lot I noticed a significant change with the Practice Range. Great improvement since the last time I practiced. They actually have yardage markers, grass well cut, the range just gave me high expectations on how the course would be. And I have to say that it was well maintained all around. From the Tee boxes, fairies, rough and greens were well maintained. I can actually say it has had a significant change for the best. I will say this was the course I liked and started to play on 2 1/2 yrs ago and will definitely comeback. Oh, also the pro shop is looking good too. The staff was great and I felt well received. I recommend you to play this course if you are not much in a hurry.
Cool Course
Nice course, The greens are being worked on at this time. But over all a pretty nice place to play.
Enjoy Newport
I have played Newport...about 6 times last month, and I will keep playing it...
newport
ok course for the money, staff is friendly
Most of the Course in Good Condition
it was very enjoyable playing Newport in the continue it was in, fairways good, tee boxes good, some greens need work but mostly pretty challenging, sand boxes have lots of pebbles in thme and thats not good for clubs but if you stay out of them they're ok, iplayed the course in the early fall and i didnt think i would be bac but i was and i will come again.
nice layout
nice layout but needs work on greens. cart upgrade is nice and the new owners are working hard so maybe next year greens will improve.
not bad
tee boxs great. fairways great. greens still need work but can see staff are doing their best to fix. lots of bunkers guarding the greens. just wish they would rake them, was like hitting off cement not sand. absolutely loved the layout of the course. as i seen stated in a previous review i will keep playing this course as long as i can see effort in upkeep. to all considering to play here GO PLAY to the staff thumbs up for the effort and hard work
stonebridge
I have played this course for numerous years. The course had been going down hill over the last couple of years. I am very happy that the course is in better shape and still improving. The bunkers and green are still behind on the improvements but getting better. I will keep playing as long as the improvements continue.
Early fathers day golf
I took my son out to play his first full 18 holes of golf two days before fathers day. We got on right away, no waiting and played fairly quickly without any waiting on group ahead of us and no one pushing behind us.
The greens were in prime shape and the fairways were also good. It was a blast!

Could be so much better
The course needs some attention but has improved since I last played. With all the rain we've had I can understand some of the conditions. Greens need life to them had very little grass on some. Also water in water cooler tasted terrible not sure what that was about.
Investment paying off
Little things like the cart barn being so close and convenient as well as the parking make this course layout hard to beat. The greens were a little shakey but a good bit better than a couple of "top ten in the state" municipal courses I played the same two week period. I was surprised how good shape the course was in with so much rain the week before.
