About
Providence Golf Club in Richmond has a rich and unique history. The original location along the Pocoshock Creek closed in 1985 but the property and an adjacent parcel of land were then bought by a new development company. The additional land was used for six new holes while the original property now has longer and more spacious holes. The golf course then had another redesign in 2002 that was overseen by Virginia native Lester George, who is known for designing the highest ranked golf course in the state, Kinloch Golf Club. Providence G.C. wanders through a beautiful landscape of towering trees and wetlands. George utilized these natural features to create a number of risk-reward opportunities throughout the course. The golf course finishes with a risk-reward hole that is heavily guarded by both bunkers and a creek.

Carty Battery died
I understand that they are about replace all of their golf carts, which is a good thing, since my cart died between holes 7 and 8. Fairways and greens are in good shape.; the rough is mostly tree roots and hard baked clay.
Great layout and condition
First time playing at this course. Very well maintained and excellent pace and condition.
It is well worth the price you pay for it.
I have never seen big fans blowing air on some of the greens. This course had few big fans. I would definitely go back there again.

Old school layout. As well manicured as any of the nice courses in the area.

Before I melted
I played very well for 5 holes on this blisteringly hot and muggy day, but then when we caught the group in front of us and started to wait in the sun my game began to melt in the heat.
Excellent Course for midweek afternoon play
Can’t beat the course for the money. I popped in after making a reservation a few days before. Excellent course, excellent staff.

Hadn’t played the course in a bit.
Found the course in great shape. Busy weekend volumes but the pace overall was good.
Had a slow group playing the back tees in front of us but they only played the front 9.
Pace moved steady after that.
Staff was very friendly.
Despite rains, course was perfect!
After some frequent rains, the course was not soggy and was in tip top shape. We had a 90° rule to adhere to, which is waaaay better than the cart path only rule at other local courses. Teed off at 833am, with no one in front of us or behind us for the duration (including the mandatory “grab a beverage and a chunky hot dog at the turn”.
The course is fairly forgiving with quite a few risk/reward shots to deliberate over, just try to stay out of the now full foliage trees!!
I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a solid golf experience. I know the later tee times get booked early, but if you can sneak out before 9am, it’s totally worth it.
