Providence Golf Club

About
Providence Golf Club in Richmond has a rich and unique history. The original location along the Pocoshock Creek closed in 1985 but the property and an adjacent parcel of land were then bought by a new development company. The additional land was used for six new holes while the original property now has longer and more spacious holes. The golf course then had another redesign in 2002 that was overseen by Virginia native Lester George, who is known for designing the highest ranked golf course in the state, Kinloch Golf Club. Providence G.C. wanders through a beautiful landscape of towering trees and wetlands. George utilized these natural features to create a number of risk-reward opportunities throughout the course. The golf course finishes with a risk-reward hole that is heavily guarded by both bunkers and a creek.

Do everything you can to avoid the greenside bunker on the par-4 7th. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020
Need to communicate....
I've played this course before and it is enjoyable. Pulled up and noticed the putting green was sandy. Checked in at the clubhouse and was NOT told that they had aerated very recently. EVERY green had been aerated and was very sandy. I know they have to do this but at least put a notice out there. If you plan on playing Providence soon, I'd wait a couple weeks until the sand goes away.
Fun course but...
I didn't play well but had fun time anyway. The course is taken care of very well. It has a variety of holes. Some are wide open and easy, others are more of a challenge. Lover the course. The issue I had was when I booked online with GOLF NOW, the price was $93 for 2 people pay 5 now and $88 when you get to the course. Come time to pay and they guy at the course tells me $56 each ($112 total) He tells me to get the cheaper price you have to pay golfnow, online at the time of booking, Which I would be fine with except golfnow said pay at the course, it didn't give an option to pay online... We each pay the $56 but then realize that their twilight price of $44 starts at 1 PM... our tee time was for 1:03pm.. so we got our refunds then went and had a great time...
Hidden Gem
This course was recommended by a friend and I couldn't agree more with his praise. The course was well balanced for difficulty, it was fun to play and I look forward to coming back in the future.
Course in rough shape. Filled with hackers.
Paided online to play 18, then told carts needed to be in at a 5:40, course loaded with twosome and singles unpaired playing from opposite fairways. Not letting better faster players playing from proper tee boxes play through! Making it impossible to play full eighteen. Fairways and tee boxes in rough shape. Bunkers filled with play sand. This course was the same price as nicer courses in the area.
Sloppy day at Providence
Do not play this course after a rain. Three days after a small rain event it was paths only and sloppy wet. Plenty of other courses in town drain better and have better greens. Booked a time on line and prepaid and the pro shop still tried to charge one of my group. People just show up with no tee time and they cram them in for 9 holes. Not worth the rack rate and the locals take forever to play.
Cart Path Only
The course was a little wet from the rain over the weekend, so it was cart path only. Overall, the course was in great shape for this time of year. We were able to play in under 4 hours. Great little course.
Providence golf course
This is a good course that’s in really good condition for this time of year. The greens run a little on the fast side but run true. Only downside is two of the par 5 are difficult to go for in two, even if you hit a good drive one has tall trees blocking a direct second shot and 18 has a big natural waste area in front of a smallish green both require a hero shot. Even with that I enjoy playing here.
Nice Track!
1st time playing this course, pleasantly surprised. While it was cart path only due to heavy rains the prior day, course was still in decent condition. Greens were very good considering the time of year. Looking forward to playing next year during warm weather when the course is green.
Good walk in the park
Had a good time playing wish my score was better but not the courses fault. Greens were in good shape and the ball rolled true even though the leaves. Maybe more forced carries over environmentally sensitive areas than I would prefer so if you have trouble getting the ball in the air maybe hit 1 more club then normal. Overall nice course with a decent practice area and driving range. Good rates for seniors too.
Overall great experience
Course is in great condition. Greens are very good but could be great if players would repair their ballmarks. I must have repaired 5-6 ball marks on every green! Not the fault of the golf course, just pure laziness and lack of respect for the game by those who don’t repair their ball marks!
