Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club - Black Bear/Grizzly Course
About
Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club boasts 27 holes of championship golf that are situated on a scenic stretch of coastline, just a few miles west of Bethany Beach. The holes are played in three different 18-hole combinations that tumble across sandy dunes and grassy hollows. The natural contours of the coastal landscape largely determined the movement and flow of all three nine-hole courses. The nines, Grizzle, Kodiak, and Black Bear, all have winding fairways bordered by native wetland grasses and lush, oversized greens that boast some of the best conditions on the Eastern Shore. The Black Bear/Grizzly combination is the longest of the three golf courses. Not only does the coastal terrain provide many natural hazards, including several water features, there are also strategically placed bunkers with which to contend.

Excellent Amenities for an Average Course
First off, my overall 3/5 rating and my lack of recommendation of this course is relative to what it is (or purports to be). If this course were being compared to your local muni, it would certainly score higher. But given the competition within a 45-minute drive, it's difficult to recommend Bear Trap Dunes.
The amenities are outstanding, though. Everything from the clubhouse to the restaurant to the snack shack is top-of-the-line. The atmosphere surrounding the course gives one the feeling that it will be worth the $125 prime time rate.
The course, however, did not live up to that feeling. The greens and tee boxes were average at best, and at times, below average (compared to almost any course). The layout was not terribly interesting, and there were no memorable, picturesque holes as one may hope to find on a resort/vacation/destination course. Luckily, I received a $30 discount on my tee time, but even with the savings, it'd be tough to recommend this course to anyone visiting the OCMD area. I have only played three other courses in the area, but I would certainly recommend two of them before BTD (Lighthouse Sound and Baywood Greens), and given the choice, I'd play the other one (Man O' War) before returning to BTD as well.
If you can get on this course of $40 or less, it's probably worth it. If you are looking to drop $100+ on a round though, go play Lighthouse Sound (or any of the other course options in the area). I may have caught the course at a bad time, but when it comes to vacation courses, they usually only get one shot to impress the out-of-town visitors.
Grizzly, and kodiac
Excellent conditions, if you like speedy greens, this is the place. Test all aspects of one's game
Course is always well maintained
Played Bear Trap Dunes many times. Course is always in great shape and well maintained. The setup offers an enjoyable challenge. Staff was very accommodating in allowing us to move up our tee time significantly so that we could get in round before rain moved in.
Good place for Mother's Day!
Pace of play was great! Staff was nice. Course had been aerated and we were not made aware but it was still ok for the money and we were there to enjoy the nice day!
Beautiful course and great people
The only problem with the course itself was that the greens had just been aerated and sanded and were ridiculously difficult to putt on from any angle.
The score card lacked a course layout on it and I found that inconvenient since the golf cart "card" was not very handy to use. Also, for a course like this, there should be a GPS in each cart.
Beautiful track a link style course
I was lucky to have played in early March with warm weather! This course has three nine hole courses. It's a professional operation.
The range balls were included and you hit off the grass. I personally do not practice on matts.
The tee boxes were on great condition. I have played in ALL the Ocean City area golf courses. This is one of my favorite courses. It's an "A" course. It's on par with Baywood Greens, Rum Point and Lighhouse Sound. The fairways were absolutely in magnificent condition. The greens are fast.
There is plenty of water but the water doesn't generally come into play because the fairways are wide enough to keep your ball dry. The greens are all well protected by well maintained bunkers. Don't miss this course on your next trip!
First time but not the last by far
Even with the wind gusting in the 30s, the round was very enjoyable. Put this on your list of MUST PLAY.
Delawre getnaway
Course was OK. Kodiak was closed for repair so played the first and last 9 holes. Greens OK for winter.
Bear Trap Deal
Got a crazy good deal at Golf Now. AlwYs like
Playing the course. 65 degree sunny day in February. Course was in good shape in general except some of the greens on Grizzly were in pretty bad shape.
Good layout with different design for each course
The 3 nine at Bear Trap offer a good variety of hole designs. Conditions were very good for end of Feb. Traps had fresh sand, greens pretty quick, tee boxes and fairways starting to come back from winter. Good pace of play, will definitely play there again.
Nice
Very nice course course conditions were excellent greens were a little fast
3 GREAT 9 HOLE LAYOUTS
Outstanding setup. 3 great 9 hole courses with different venues. Very fast greens. Probably added 6 to 7 strokes to my typical score. I even 4 putted two greens....But still a great course and I will certainly play it again.
Great Course @ Great Price
Bear Trap Dunes is a very good course. I'll play this course anytime the Golfnow price is good. Our only problem: frost delay! Our tee time was 12:36, plenty to do 18 holes. There was a 40 minute delay so we only got to play 15 holes (but for what we paid, no problem)
Best Hot deal of the year
Played in 2 1/2 hrs for $13. Course in decent shape . Definitely play again !!!!
Great Round
Always a good time at Bear Trap. I love this course.
Wind creates the Challenge
The course is beautiful. The layout of the course was not difficult but with the wind gusting, it made the round very challenging. So it is good to have a "go to shot" with a low trajectory. There is water on the course but it is really only in play if you hit a very wayward shot (or are playing from the back tees that require you to carry water). If you play the forward tees you do not have to worry about forced carries.
The staff was very nice and helpful. The starter gave us tips when he greeted us and asked how we were doing when we made the turn. The on-course "amenities" were excellent (bathrooms at good locations) water at every hole.
I would play this course again.
