Rude staff and poor course conditions
Starter was a jerk from the second we got out of the car. Acted annoyed that we arrived 45 minutes early and didn’t know where to go as it was our first time. Weeds growing in the greens, horrible tee boxes, and too many bare patches. Don’t waste your time
A Money Grab
Course layout is very nice and clubhouse nice. Otherwsie, golf conditions are very very disappointing. Lots of bad fairways (supposedly from drought/heavy rain) and even some temporary tee boxes, but truthfully, many tee-boxes and gateways needed major help. On top of it, knowing these conditions, they still charge full price of $110!
That’s why I call this place a money grab.
I played Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club the day before for $10 more and conditions were 5,10x better!
Sorry, but I hate when courses treat guests unfairly!
Rolling Over in His Grave
Not a good experience at all. The starter was rude and overbearing (barking and whistling at us), and the driving range and putting green were sub-par. The course was in terrible condition. Many of the tee boxes had barely any grass on them, and the grass that was there was shaggy and unkempt. A lot of the fairways were barren, and the greens weren’t much better. The online photos were incredible, and Robert Trent Jones Sr. is a masterful designer. This course looked nothing like the photos, and I suspect RTJ Sr. would be rolling over in his grave if he saw it in its current state.
Great layout but lower than average tee boxes and greens
I’ve never seen worse tee box conditions in 13 years of playing. The greens were doused in sand which made all reads non effective
Golf
Great course and clubhouse. First time playing and really enjoyed the experience. Will definitely be back to play again next time we are in the area
Some rough spots
Some tee boxes were unleveled and areas on approach to greens were in rough shape, probably from recent weather issues. Overall, course was in shape enough to warrant a Hot Deal price.
you get what you pay for
We took our 2 son's who play once a year. Only paid $59, tees and fairways were poor condition at best, greens were slow. Design was got, but it took 5 hrs to play. Not recommended.
Need a bench
All in all a nice day out got paired with another single had a great time. Fairways were mixed in conditions. Had a beer after my round and was given last call and told to leave. That was fine except I called Uber and it was going to be 20 minutes, so I stood outside. They could use a bench out there. Great staff I would go back
In rough shape
Some of the worst tee boxes I have seen at any course. Some of the par 3 boxes had grass think as the rough to hit off of. See pictures. And they weren’t the worse ones. Fairways were ok but greens were almost unputtable!. Bumps from poorly fixed ball marks, footprints from golfers dragging their feet , patches lead to inconsistent rolls. Not sure how much money is being put back into the course. But it’s not enough!
The good news is it was only $40 and we got 18 holes in.
Not What it Once Was
To say I was disappointed in the course conditions after years of playing at Ocean Pines would be an understatement. The tees were a combination of dirt, rye, Bermuda and bent grasses, without any consistency. Most of the fairways were a combination of rye, Bermuda and bent, and much like the tee boxes, inconsistent with the strongest grass overtaking the bent. Many of the bunkers have an overgrowth of weeds, which should take minimal effort to eliminate and maintain. The highlight of OP is the RTJ layout and the bent greens, which were renovated a few years ago and remain healthy. After playing OP for more than 40 years, and the first time in 4-5 years, I was disappointed to see the once gem of Ocean City golf in such poor condition. It's time for the OP community association to reinvest in this one-time beach classic and bring it back on par to the newer venues for both members and guests.
Course is in need of some work
Punched greens were very bumpy. First nine took three and a half hours. Thank God a lot of people let and the second nine was done in less than one and a half hours Hopefully the weather will cooperate and the course will get in better shape
Wish I were playing better, but fun day
As difficult as always, lol…..but in pretty good shape, better than a couple years ago….great service/staff
Fun Round on a terrific layout
First time playing here. Very nice facility in great condition. Pace was a bit quicker than we were used to as a regular foursome. We were on pace but we actually waved up 2 threesomes during our round. They looked and played like course regulars.
Anne Craft
Slow play. Behind to kids who have obviously not played before or not often, hit two to three balls off the tee. Originally 2- threesomes but one person hurt their back so became a five-some although warned by ranger twice. We won’t return, especially for the money.
