River Run Golf Course

About
River Run Golf Club in Ocean City is just minutes away from the beach. The golf course has different front and back nines that make for an interesting round. This Gary Player design starts out across a wide-open landscape before moving on to more tree-lined terrain on the backside. The tighter back nine is tougher than the first nine but overall it's an approachable golf course. The player-friendly layout is gentle enough for beginners with medium-sized greens that aren't especially difficult and generous fairways that offer plenty of room. There is modest bunkering along the greens and fairways and a few lakes and some marshland come into play as well. While River Run Golf Club may not be the most formidable test, the course provides just enough of a challenge for scratch golfers.

Good course
I took the kids out for a holiday weekend round to end the summer. The price was okay, especially once we started playing and realized how bad of shape the greens were in - large sections of greens appeared to be dead. Otherwise, the course was in good shape, it was not terribly difficult and not overly long (although the par 5’s were long) but the course played well. The pace of play was great - we teed off at 4:06 on a Sunday afternoon so I wouldn’t have expected pace of play to be an issue.
What happened?
I play here a bunch. However not in a two months. The fairways and greens are in terrible condition. Even paying a local rate right now until I hear the conditions drastically improve I will not be back anytime soon. It’s a shame because I enjoy playing there.
Good municipal course.
Good municipal course It was easy to navigate. Being a holiday weekend they should have had a marshal on the back 9. The greens were slow and a little burnt but that is to be expected with the dry weather and probable non working sprinklers. I would like to play the course in the springtime when it is better shape.
Course is in bad condition
Greens were sparse and inconsistent, Fairways were also very inconsistent. I was able to play without interference so it was worth the money I paid.
Too much rain
This course layout is nice.
However, the entire area has see heavy rain for weeks-up to 9 inches one week
. This cause a great deal of fungus and killed a lot of fairways and greens
I would have thought the Management would have alerted players to the poor conditions.
They really should have charged less then normal to
Not the best conditioned course
I’m sorry to say but this course was not in the best condition.i did notice that people were working on it to try and make it better. Some greens were bald
Horrible
Sand all over every part of the course and insanely over priced for the terrible condition
Disappointed
Have played River Run many times. I have never seen the course in such bad shape. With all the new building around the fairways, the golfing experience has gone down.
This course is not worth the money
River Run was one of the worst golf experiences I’ve had in a long time. The course was in terrible shape—large dead patches covered the greens, tees, and fairways, making play inconsistent and frustrating. The maintenance crew was aerating the entire front 9 while we played, which, while understandable, was done with no regard for pace or courtesy. They were pulling plugs right in front of us as we were lining up shots. Completely unprofessional.
The number of unfilled divots across the course made things even worse. I’ve played similar-quality courses in Ohio for $40–60, and this was nowhere near worth the price we paid.
To top it off, a woman came up to us while we were warming up to pitch the snack shack, but when we got to the turn around 2:30 PM, the place was locked up and empty. Just a bizarre, frustrating day all around. We were then forced to get something to eat at the restaurant next door which sold hot dogs for 2x the price as you would normally pay at a golf course.
Would not recommend.
Disappointing River Run
I have played the course 5-6x previously. It is a nice layout and not overly difficult. The course was in extremely poor condition in all areas...fairway, rough, and greens Not properly maintained. They had no business charging what they did for the round. Unsatisfactory! I doubt that I will play there again.
Not worth the money in current condition!
Course is on really bad shape. Very large mud patches all over the fairways. Many most? Of the greens had rot or damage. WAY too much money for the shape of the course.
Overpriced
The course is in horrible shape, burned out everywhere. The back nine smells because they spread sewage in the woods. Greens will horribly slow and half gone. Not worth the $110 they charged. Much better options in OC. I won’t return.
