Texas Star Golf Course
About
One of the best public facilities in Texas, Texas Star is ironically located in the middle of an industrial area, yet somehow sports the natural look and feel of the Hill Country. Designed by Keith Foster, this is a tough course with numerous hazards, immaculate conditions, and many unique holes.
Foster’s design tips out at 6,936 yards and is a par 71. Hurricane Creek traverses the landscape, and the old oaks that line the course offer the perfect respite from the surrounding industrial community.
No. 15 is one of the better holes--a 37-yarder highlighted by a green-fronting pond and waterfall. The fairway is split due to the hazard, and a solid tee shot of at least 220 yards is required to carry the falls.
Another great hole is the scenic 179-yard No. 16, which plays downhill and is framed by a rock-lined creek on the right. No. 18 is a nice ender, going 535 yards with water everywhere. Leave yourself a short-iron approach, since the green is protected by a creek.
Note that the course is closed on Tuesdays, and in the summer the club is known to limit play to 100 golfers per day. And while some complain that it this is a cart-path-only course, the condition of the fairways more than makes up for the inconvenience.
Getting there : From the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, take Hwy, 183 west to Hwy, 157. Drive south to Hwy. 10 and turn right. The entrance is 1 mile down and visible from the highway.

The facilities impressive visual was only exceeded by the staff's desire to make it fun for us..
This was our groups first time to play the revered "Star" but all of the acolades were absolutely true. Winter fairways were in great shape and the greens were lightening fast but very smooth. We look forward to return engagement!
Very Helpful Staff
1st green was littered with ball marks, but most of the greens were clear and smooth. Challenging course, especially if you've not played it previously. Green grass on the greens, not painted green. The starter and clubhouse attendant were very helpful and friendly.
A real challenge from the tips
Course is very challenging from the back tees. It was in excellent condition. One of the finest layouts in the Metroplex. Play is sometimes slow but outside of that it makes for a great day. One of my favorites.
Nice course.
I played on 10/10/12 this is a great course but the last two times I played here the greens were in bad shape.
There was a tournament the day we played, we were sent out right after a shotgun start so it was pretty slow. Beverages are very $$$.
The fairways are nice
The greens were terrible, full of humps and dead grass. Divots tore the grass from the surface and were not able to be repaired. It took us 5.5 hours to play. The two other guys we played with left after 13 because it was so slow. I can find much better places to spend that much money to play golf.
Fun & Challenging Course
We were a foursome of brothers-in-law, and played the 18 hole round in less than 4 hours. The course was in great shape and I considered the aerated greens to be very playable, without too much effect on the line and roll of our putts. Texas Star is very challenging, with several blind tee shots and plenty of elevation change from tee to green on most of the holes. Don't miss having a meal at Raven's Grille. It has one of the best (and largest) chicken-fried steaks in the DFW area. All in all, we had a great day and really enjoyed playing Texas Star GC.
The Lone Star State's Best
Texas Star and Cowboys are my first-choice courses when out of state friends come to town and Texas Star usually wins because of price-point and convenience. This course is beautiful, unique and unlike any other golf experience in Texas. Its immaculate fairways, incredible bent-grass greens and strategic design are reliably impressive and give golfers a first-class experience. There is beautiful scenery and great changes in elevation. Protected wildlife areas, water and bunkers bring challenge to most boxes. The really difficult holes are spaced nicely, which allows my friends to recover from the bogeys that seem to lurk out there. It's also completely private with no homes or distractions on the track.
