Texas Star Golf Course

About
One of the best public facilities in Texas, Texas Star is ironically located in the middle of an industrial area, yet somehow sports the natural look and feel of the Hill Country. Designed by Keith Foster, this is a tough course with numerous hazards, immaculate conditions, and many unique holes.
Foster’s design tips out at 6,936 yards and is a par 71. Hurricane Creek traverses the landscape, and the old oaks that line the course offer the perfect respite from the surrounding industrial community.
No. 15 is one of the better holes--a 37-yarder highlighted by a green-fronting pond and waterfall. The fairway is split due to the hazard, and a solid tee shot of at least 220 yards is required to carry the falls.
Another great hole is the scenic 179-yard No. 16, which plays downhill and is framed by a rock-lined creek on the right. No. 18 is a nice ender, going 535 yards with water everywhere. Leave yourself a short-iron approach, since the green is protected by a creek.
Note that the course is closed on Tuesdays, and in the summer the club is known to limit play to 100 golfers per day. And while some complain that it this is a cart-path-only course, the condition of the fairways more than makes up for the inconvenience.
Getting there : From the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, take Hwy, 183 west to Hwy, 157. Drive south to Hwy. 10 and turn right. The entrance is 1 mile down and visible from the highway.

Great condition
Went out at 2:40. Got lucky. A tournament was wrapping up so I didn't see another soul for the 1st 9 holes. Staff was great and conditions were too.
Need more deals At Tx Star
Great track super shape fast greens. Using golf now. Com is the way to go. Cost included tax green fees cart and range balls.
Great Municipal
This is the only municipal course i have been to in the country that is in this great of shape. I have played at Countyr Clubs that are not this nice. From the moment you enter the property you get that feel, you are greeted by staff your bags are removed from your car and the staff is friendly. The course is in great shape fairways soft, lush and green. The greens are pristine, smooth and fast. Amenities are great restrooms on the coursw, water and the cart girls we saw at least nine times on 18 holes. This place is firsr class golf and worth every penny. I have to drive almost 45 miles to play it but i do so without even thinking about it.
Excellent course! Requires some shot making
Overall great course except players need to fix more ball marks on greens.
Course is in very good shape
I played the course for the second time, though it was in much better condition on this occasion. Took advantage of a $40 twilight rate, started at 4:00pm, and managed to get in 18 with plenty of time to spare. Admittedly, the course was fairly empty today. Great deal, especially if you can get a discounted rate.
Superb Golf Course
Everything is in great shape. Staff is great. Food is very good. course service was most attentive. We will come back frequently.
Texas Star is an outstanding course
We played twilight and didn't quite get all 18 in but when you have a great deal from GolfNow on one of the best courses in the Mid Cities you take it! This course provides challenges but is not impossible. The greens were just wonderful which really makes golf fun to play. Can't recommend Texas Star highly enough!
Greens great! Friendly staff
Course is awesome! No complaints, fantastic bent grass grieens.
I could definitely see how pace of play could be a problem when it's busy though. Luckily not too bad today.
Beautiful Track, unique holes throughout
Although it took longer than normal to get a round in, this place is a very nice and fun golf course. I think if they would quit trying to get as many people on the course in one day as they can, it would be a spectacular round of golf! The course will eventually suffer for being overplayed if they are not careful~
Great conditon and layout!
Regular rate is high but with golfnow's rate sometimes you can find a great deal! The greens are in perfect condition, not too fast and rolls so true!
Negative point:
For the last par 3 on back nine is way too darn long for amateurs, it played 220 yds!
Great Course
Very nice course, friendly staff... Greens were hard but they rolled true. I am sure they will fix that soon . It is a pretty course, tough lay out and some of the elevated greens are difficult to hit. Definitely fun but it will challenge you
Poor condition, poor serivce, curt rude staff
Course needs attention, fetralizer, water, etc. the odor
From the adjacent trash dump is horrible. I was pretty appalled with the rude staff, lazy starters and zero Marshall. Waited every shot. Very high rate for such poor shape and after 3p tee time. Course has a few uphill downhill holes. If you draw off the tee it's a breeze. I had played before greens were true, bent grass I think but divots prevelant and old holes throughout the green.
very nice course
Love this course. In very good condition, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Regular tee times are a bit pricey, but when you can get a good deal on Golfnow it's well worth it.
Almost 6hr hour round on Saturday
Beautiful course, but unfortunately the pace of play was terrible. Overheard staff mention double-booking of tee times, which would certainly contribute to a round that lasted more than 5.5 hours ... and seems a little dishonest. Played here twice, and pace was horrible both times so I'll avoid playing here on weekends moving forward. Location next to land fill detracted from 3-4 holes, but the noise/dust/smell was not unbearable (temp' was mid-70s). Restuarant service and quality of the food was significantly better than average.
Great course only one defect
The course was in great condition, I would pay 70 dollars for it again. Only after I get a gas mask though. The course is right next to the city dump and be ready for a headache during your round. I'm not sure there is much they can do about but just come ready ,especially if the winds are coming from south to north.
One of my favorite courses in DFW
Actually live in the Houston area but my buddy lives in hurst and play in Dallas area often. Texas Star is usually my first choice. Greens are well maintained with is a huge part of your golf game. The layout is amazing with elevation changes on most holes. If its your first time playing...most holes you want to go up and have a look at it. Great course for anyone. Forces you to commit to shots but always recognize the wind direction. Love this tract.
Great course
Great course always a fun way to spend the day.. Challenging yet playable. Staff has always been helpful. The course is in great shape all the times I played .
Poor staff relations.
Tee time misbooked for one day later. Course would not work with me.
Excellent course condition. Great layout. Incredible pleasure playing at Texas Star
I would recommend this course to anyone. Challenging but fair. Beautiful layout with many elevation changes. Great staff. They take good care of you.
overall good experience.
Problem is that it is not a good value in relation to other courses and the green fee.
They are too high and the really never do any deals, and the pro shop staff knows they are getting a premium.
