The Golf Club At Fossil Creek
About
Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, the links-style Golf Club at Fossil Creek was nominated by Golf Digest as one of the best new public golf courses in Texas when it opened in 1987, and has lived up to that advance billing since then. The course is scenic, with massive trees, limestone bluffs, bubbling creeks, and numerous lakes that bring water into play on 15 of 18 holes. The course boasts pretty rolling fairways and 18 testing holes all intertwined throughout streams created by Fossil Creek. It's surrounded by rocky-ledged creeks and crystal lakes.

Good condition
Overall the course is in good condition. The greens putt well and fairways and tee boxes are in good shape. I personally don't like tracks like Fossil Creek, it's target golf....reminds me of Lost Creek, but in much better shape. I think I hit my driver 4 times and I played the tips.,..mickey mouse, but again, in good shape.
Too Expensive
Nice course, but too expensive for the value. Only one beverage cart working the course. The golfing conditions were too hot not to have two beverage carts. The water containers locationed at the holes were dirty and the water spouts on the containers were filthy!
We had a great time
Course was in great condition. We had a great time by teeing off late on a hot day.
Best greens in the area for public course
I find these greens very readable and putt more true than any other around. They aren't bent grass but act like bent grass in a lot of ways. The grain is very obvious but not too thick. I like that this course does not have a grip-it-and-rip-it layout. Some holes are like that, but not all of them. Each hole presents it's own challenge, but not so difficult that the average golfer cannot over come. Speed of the greens are perfect! If you struggle with the woes of old-fashioned bermuda greens, this course is for you.
On a final note, they have fresh hot dogs (or sausage) with awesome tater tots!
A favorite course
Even though it is very challenging for higher handicaps, Fossil Creek is one of my favorite courses. Has some really beautiful holes, particularly on the back nine!
Good course
Good course for the money. Good fairways and greens.
Course not at it's best
Greens had been aerated and were bumpy. Some fairways had distressed areas. Overcrowded and very slow pace of play.
Great course
Beautiful fairways/conditions except for #15 (I think) which really needs to be grounds under repair the whole way, it looks bad. Greens were punched 2 weeks ago and starting to grown in but lots of striations making putts bumpy. Besides that, definitely worth checking out.
Father's Day experience
I played this course yesterday, on Father's Day. It was an absolute mess. The greens were some of the worst I've played. They were clearly in the process of repairing them, yet they were still charging full price. I would suggest staying away from this course for the next month or at least until they can recover from the flooding damage. It's just not worth the money in its current shape.
Great greens, Poor Fairways
The greens were in great condition and rolled true. Very firm, fast, but great to putt on. The fairways on the other hand were burnt, dead, muddy and had tons of tire marks all over them. I do not understand how after all the rain in the area that the fairways were in such poor condition.
For $70 a round, I would not play this course again in this condition.
The driving range was a lot of the same as the fairways. Poor ground to hit off of and you had to pay extra for a bucket of balls to hit before your round.
I would only play this course again if it were a max $35/round price or if the course conditions in the fairways drastically improve.
I understand this is a public course, but when you ask for memberships at $4,000/year (over $300/month average) then you better have a course in that condition. No excuse with all the wet weather to have dried out fairways that are very patchy.
Greens aerated
Greens had been aerated and there was no warning upon signing in.
Return To Fossil Creek
Had been about 5 years since I played at Fossil Creek and was looking forward to playing there again. The course and staff did not disappoint.
Was curious to see with all the heavy rain we've experienced this spring how the course had held up but was pleased to see that it was in great shape from tee box to green.
Narrow fairways and the creek itself make many holes a true test, especially when played from the tips. A couple of elevated greens make things interesting when determining yardage.
Only thing negative I could say about Fossil Creek is how they stagger their tee times. Tends to stack things up on the first tee box for sure.
Rains have helped
Course was overall in great shape. Greens were quick and rolled good.
Rude staff
Staff acted like it was an inconvenience to check us in charged full price for my 13 y/o junior. Course was in great shape. Will definetly pick a different course to play next time in the area.
Fun course
Conditions of the course were great. Fun track to play. I will definitely return.
Pace was play was a little slow.
Beautiful layout for all players
This course requires you to hit many different types of tee shots. Course was in great shape. Pace of play was good on the front nine then got really backed up as soon as we reached the back, most of the time we got to the tee box as one group teed off and then had to wait for the group in front of us. Besides that this was a perfect place to play
super condition
This may be the finest course in these parts. Great fairways greens roll true and breathtaking barely describes several of the holes on this course. If u don't play this course soon your not a golfer.
love the layout
Enjoy playing here very much. Some very challenging holes but with good shot placement a good score can be had
Good course
Great course, beautiful fairways and a good amount of difficulty. The greens were recently sanded when I played so they were rock hard and really fast. Only downside was the fact that there was no Marshall and there were some really slow groups in the course that probably cost us at least three holes before the sun went down. A lot of older gentleman fishing for balls all over the course. I was also surprised by how many people were just wandering around the cart paths from the surrounding neighborhoods. Just take an extra look before you hit the ball in this course.
Great course good afternoon rates
Great condition today should not have been cart parth only. It would have been nice had they told us before we took off to the middle of #1 and out cart died and we had to back all the way out. Neither the guy in club house told us or the starter.
