Nice course, slow play
I’ve played here dozens of times. The course is always in good shape, although the bunkers are fairly rocky. It’s a terrific layout. The real issue the last couple times I’ve visited has been slow play. Today a foursome a couple groups in front of us took 2.5 hours on the front nine. No ranger, nobody from the clubhouse came out despite them saying they monitor every group’s pace from GPS on the carts. The time before this I quit after almost 5 hours for only 15 holes. Both rounds were early afternoons on weekdays. I’d never even consider this place on a weekend. Great course that just needs better management of pace of play.
Even in rain still great
I played yesterday in the rain and it was still an amazing course. Greens were fast, fairways were dry for the most part. A couple spots were wet. A lot of elevation changes and chances to use a lot of different clubs in the bag.
One of the top courses in the DMV
Gorgeous layout, fairly priced. Lots of tough holes, and several holes that are birdie-able even from the rough. A great course for those in the 10-30 handicap range.
Sunday Stroll
This was a bucket list course and it was great. The first nine holes perfect. The second nine was slow due to a groups of older players struggling. Our pairing was great and the green speed made you think. I will play again before my retirement later this summer. A great bucket course.
In Usual Fantastic Shape
Absolutely great experience on a tough fantastic course. Everyone aspect of the course was in great condition and it was playing firm and fast. Definitely need to bring your short game and putter!
Course is in great shape. Lighting fast greens. Spectacular views of the mountains. I highly recommend this track
This course will get you thinking
I enjoyed my first visit to Maryland National, a very intriguing, well maintained tour on rolling land outside Frederick. Holes are split between wide open to fairly tight, presenting varying challenges. Seemed to play harder than the rating, but that was on a very windy day. Most holes have plenty of room off the tee with quite a number of downhill drives, but the rough was severe, not to mention the deep bunkers. Fast greens rolled true. The shorter, narrower holes present a number of options in how best to attack the hole, particularly the devilish 16th.
Not a course you'd want to walk, as the routing is awkward and involves severe hills.
