Challenging course, perfect conditioning, beautiful views
We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, were treated to complimentary range balls, and were able to begin 10 minutes ahead of our tee time. To our great delight, the next group in front of us was 20 minutes ahead. We caught them by the 9th hole but still played in 3 hours and 20 minutes, an unheard of time on a weekend. The course is scenic and features dramatic elevation changes. A solid mix of long and short holes, local knowledge is a plus. I hit several shots that I deemed perfect only to find the ball had run into an unseen hazard. Hole #16 is a little goofy, but it did not spoil the experience. The course was groomed perfectly. One of the best places to play in Maryland.
Very nice, scenic golf course
Excellent facility. Grass range with chipping/putting area. Course is semi links style but gets tight in areas. Greens were rolling true and fast when I played, fairways in great shape.
Great conditions. Challenging course
Great course, tough tough driving the ball. Very tight. Pretty much takes the driver out of play. And from the tips there's a few long par 4's. The greens were at a good pace. But didn't seem to hold pro V's all that well. Range was on mats which for a course of this quality was a let down. But they have a great GPS system which gave great yardage.
Good time. Played pretty poorly but next time around this track I'd expect to play better.
Have a good time out there
Very good mix of holes and conditioning. Friendly & accommodating staff.
Good mix of holes and tee options. Some extreme elevation changes and blind shots though. Back nine is short and more narrow. Need local knowledge and precision tee shots to score well. Some very high rough in spots to catch wayward shots. Very good overall conditioning tees, fairways, greens and bunkers. Very Good golfer comforts like cold drinking water, GPS in carts, putting green, practice green, and driving range.
fun course, awesome conditions, will definitely come back.
I found a great hot time and made the hour and change trek out here to play. I ended up playing as a single since I was one of the few brave souls willing to endure the 100 something degree heat. Fairways and greens were some of the best I have seen in the last couple years. The greens were really quick but not burnt out and the grass around the greens was in fantastic shape. I was extremely impressed with course and I plan on coming back discount or not to try and score a little better now that I know what danger lurks around some of the corners and blindspots. The short game area was great to utilize and the range is nice, but I really don't like hitting off mats prior to a round but for the value and money spent I would say it's a non factor. I grabbed a snack and couple powerades in the clubhouse and it looks really nice. The staff inside was monotone and bleh, but nothing to write about, but the people outside enduring the heat were great. the attendant when I pulled up was over the top friendly and took some time to talk about the course and the cart girl was courteous and all over the course with a constant smile.
Tough course for higher hadycappers!
Course was in good shape and fun to play and very challenging.
Have played this course over 100 times
I absolutely love this track. Perfect mix of challenge and beauty with tee boxes, fairways, and greens that are always in perfect condition. My only two conerns would be the following:
1. Inconstancy in the green side bunkers: For the most part the bunkers at the course are very fair. However, I seem to find every greenside bunker that has hard un-groomed sand. These bunkers could use a slight overhaul.
2. The signature tree that splits the fairway on the Par 5 second is gone. Very sad, as this was a beautiful looking hole from atop the hill. I hope MD National chooses to put another vertical obstacle in its place. I heard that they were thinking of making it a bunker. The problem is w/o the vertical obstacle, the hole becomes way too accessible for a par 5. It becomes a long, but all downhill, par 4.
awesome
Great course! Challenging but fair, with lots of scoring opportunities as long as you hit targets off of the tee. The greens & fairways were in perfect condition. I honestly can't critisize a single thing about the course.
Good Track - VERY DIFFICULT
MD National played fast and firm this past weekend. WOW. Unbelievably difficult under those conditions. You dont need to be a big hitter here, as the course doesnt play long at all, but you have to be deadly accurate into the greens or pay a price. Up and downs are limited. This course is very difficult and plays about 5 shots harder that any other track in my rotation. Consider moving up a set of tees to make your round more enjoyable.
One of the best local courses
Perfect condition, awesome layout, challenging, but fair, surrounded by mountain views, one of my favorite local courses
A MUST PLAY within 100 miles
Golf at its finest. A must play for any serious golfer within 100 miles. Drove 1 hour and 45 minutes to play after getting ANOTHER incredible deal through GolfNow. Afterwards we agreed to return even at full price!
The course has it all. Elevation changes, mounded fairways, awesome par 3's, short drive-able 4's, long 3 shot par 5's, just a great layout. The course was is great shape. Perfect tee boxes, well maintained fairways and thick rough. The greens were great, they were receptive to well hit irons and kept their speed even in the rain. Pick the right tee boxes, whites were a little short but still challenging, probably should have played the gold. Next time!!!
very challenging and some fun holes to play
enjoyed the course enough that I will definitely play again, thought the pace of play was reasonable for the crowd on hand
Fun course, good deal
For the golfnow price of $35 versus ~$70 the course was a great deal. Decent length and difficult greens to hit and putt.
The area's finest
Play this course several times a month. They offer 40% military discount so it is a great value. The course is challenging, must pick the right set of tees otherwise it becomes very difficult to enjoy the round. The entire course is always in great shape. The greens, a few of them double tiered, tend to dry out in the afternoon and become very quick. Not gimmicky - no tricky blind shots. You can always see the flag unless you're really out of position. Just some daunting holes primarily due to the undulations on the fairways: Holes #2 and #13, both Par 5 are true tests to this hacker - not because of the length but the stance even on the fairway. Staff are always available and very
helpful. Given the discount I get, this is the best value for me. Even at full price, this is one of the area's finest.
high winds add to degree of difficultly
having played MD Nat'l before I have seen it in better shape though it is still early in the season, and the high winds made the course more difficult than usual, bar/restaurant staff was super
great condition
course is well maintained. greens are excellent. staff not very friendly
Pristine to say the least
This course was in pristine condition. Greens were very fast however, making an already challenging course that much more difficult. The weather turned out beautifully and the views and detail of this course made up for any struggles holding the green. Would definitely play this course again, and you can't beat the twilight rate value. Playing a course like this, for that price is a great deal. Plus, twilight is my favorite time of the day to play this time of the year when the weather is just perfect.
Immaculate Condition.
This course is constantly the best manicured and conditioned course in the area. Currently it is in the best condition I have ever seen.
Great course
Course is in great condition! Greens are firm and fast so holding them can be difficult. Scenery is gorgeous! Driving range is nice with target greens. What makes this course so challenging is the elevation changes, really makes you think about club selection. And the actual layout reminds me of a PB Dye course. Great course, def. will return!
The layout is wonderful, lots of elevated and descending shots to green.
Beautiful course. Challenging but rewards good decisions. The greens are challenging with subtle breaks that are hard to see. I would play there again anytime.
