An accurate tee shot from the towering tee above the par-4 5th leaves you this short but challenging approach. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 06/02/2020

The 2nd hole and adjacent 17th are both longish uphill par-4s that are nearly mirror images. Par is a good score on either. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 06/02/2020

Not a lot of flat lies in the landing zone on the par-4 12th, making the approach that much tougher. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 06/02/2020

The par-4 14th is the first time you encounter a water hazard on this course, a nice reprieve. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 06/02/2020

THe par-3 15th also has water in view, giving you back-to-back opportunities to lose your lucky Noodle. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 06/02/2020

Room for Improvement
On a nice sunny March 8 the setup and course conditions at Whiskey Creek were not ready for prime time spring golf. Many tees were covered with tarps and the white tee was way forward, and the back tees in place. The greens had been aerated and sanded some time ago so putting was difficult. Compounding the problem was that the green pin placements were HORRIFIC. There were literally about 12 holes where the pin was within eight feet of the edge of the green, often on slopes, for no apparent reason. This slowed down spring play and increased frustration on the greens - both not good for early March play. I mentioned both the tees and pin placements to Connor in the pro shop and this had been a complaint from many golfers for a second day.
To add to this, Whiskey Creek didn't have its course turned on in the GHIN USGA score posting system yet due to "winter conditions" so a score couldn't be posted by any players.
Whiskey Creek is a good layout with great views on select holes. I hope the staff can learn from this reivew.
Top 3 Maryland golf courses you must play
I love this golf course and recommend highly. I live in Fairfax area and still enjoy coming over here despite an hour drive. It is worth a trip in my opinion. Pace of play is on point with a help of a Marshal working hard to reduce delay and slow play. GPS system in Cart is pretty accurate and will stop operating if you violate the rule of cart path only. I would not recommend this to the beginners without the knowledge of basic golf rules. It is perfect course for intermediate and above skilled players. Treat yourself with a delicious hot dog after nine holes. Yes it is that good !! Cheers
January golf
Had a fantastic round at the end of January.. Great day start to finish, thank you.
Good day for winter golf.
Great to be able to play in January. Weather was a little windy, bunkers were not raked and greens were perforated. Did enjoy playing this wonderful course , however, at a price I could afford.
Irresponsible management not Covid sensitive
I have played Whiskey Creek episodically for many years and like many reviewers have always found the course to have a wonderful layout . It is enjoyable to play and while it is more expensive than most if not all.others in the area it has historically always been a treat to play.
I was profoundly disappointed to discover that the course adamantly refuses to allow a single player per cart despite our current pandemic. This is absolutely not true at Worthington Manor, Musket Ridge, PB Dye and other courses in the area which are much more sensitive to the public health requirements of their players..
As a physician and great lover of golf, I am profoundly disappointed at this courses inability to be sensitive to public health concerns in the midst of a pandemic involving one of the few activities we can all engage in with a reasonable degree of safety with proper precautions that don’t simply include masks, social distancing and leaving flag sticks in the hole but the ability to get a single cart especially if you are in a high risk group. If the number of carts are limited fewer teetimes could be booked. I can only imagine that maximizing course income is the major incentive for this policy.
Sadly on the basis of the above, I personally will boycott this golf course and advise others to do the same as a matter of public health as well as principle.
I absolutely love the course and layout. It is somewhere I have been lucky to play many times in my life and will always recommend
Time of year
Course was beautiful but will have to say for November in Maryland’s both end prices were hi ! I know the regular rate but this time of year and the weather was cold ! The few people at the course could’ve been many if prices were lower !
Awesome
Second time playing the course and it is still a real treat. Having played virtually every course in Maryland the par foir number five is my highest ranked short par four. And the rest of the course is not far behind! Do yourself a favor and play this course.
Beautiful
Best course in Maryland. Priced accordingly, but good twilight deals too. Must play if you live within an hour or so.
Amazing views, amazing conditions
What a nice course!!
Great layout and a fair challenge.
Will definitely come back to play it again.
Not so great
This course used to be phenomenal but the conditions were pretty bad. Tee boxes were in bad shape. The pace of play was pretty bad too. Teed off at 1130 and finished at 4. On a crowded holiday weekend, maybe. On a random summer day during the week, no way. At times there were 4 groups on the same hole. Called for a marshall and no one came out.
In Great Shape for August...and For The Heat!
Whiskey Creek is my favorite course in MD. it's a fantastic layout...a variety of holes with a nice balance of risk/reward holes. Typically, Whiskey Creek is in excellent condition, and today was no exception! The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were excellent, and there were only a couple of very small patches of brown on a couple of fairways. Compared to other courses throughout MD, this course was in exceptional condition. The greens, as usual, were fast, so some of those downhill putts were testers. We ran about 15-18 minutes behind the pace (published time), but we were waiting on every hole...I think the hold up was two groups in front of us. But, overall, it wasn't too slow...I think we ended up playing in 4 hours 45 minutes (vs. 4.5 hours). The staff is always nice and welcoming, and the amenities are very nice--you can get a very good meal there after the round and sit in the A/C or outside on the wrap-around deck. Lovely setting, beautiful golf course, and some great vistas from some of the holes I love this course, and they were running an aeration special for $79 on the weekends...I couldn't pass it up (it's typically $115 on the weekends). I would play it more, but $115 for a non-Resort course is a little high. I highly recommend this course.
A must play
Played my first round today and it was very enjoyable. Most golf courses in August are not in the best shape after a busy spring and summer but this place was in terrific shape. Staff was friendly. I will definitely be back!
