Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Great layout!
Really fun layout. Tees, fairways and greens were in GREAT shape. The bunkers unfortunately were pretty bad... Definitely need more sand and attention. Overall a great value though.
Great course Great value
The golf course is in great condition. From the outside looking in it seems like it would be a very flat and wide open course so I was surprised to see so many big beautiful trees, dog legs around river bends, and quite massive slopes! My buddy and I had a really good time despite not playing well at all. The course is a great value for your buck. I’ll definitely come back.
A couple tips though:
It seems they don’t run bev cart service until after 9. So if you have an early tee time then stock up! Even though they limit you to 2 beers a golfer. (Which seems a bit weird to me when you’re not running a bev cart). We teed off at 7:50 and played the whole front 9 without a beverage. So we stocked up in the club house. Finally saw a bev cart at 10am and wasn’t enthused about the service. She wasn’t rude.. but wasn’t friendly either.
I’d have given this place 5 stars if they put a little more effort in to the food and beverage/service.
We still had a great time. Most importantly.. it’s a great course that’s well maintained at a great value and we’ll definitely come back!
Where is the staff??
Course is actually in AMAZING condition from the freeze and how much rain we have recently gotten. No complaints as for the golf course itself. Pace of play was good. They made sure we started on time on the first tee which was nice
My biggest complaint is staff friendliness and access to the club house. 2 gentlemen working when we checked in were unprofessional and not personable. We win in to try and get food and drinks after the front nine and NO ONE was in the club house for 10 minutes while we waited. So no drinks or food from the club house. If you ask me not only is that highly annoying and highly unprofessional, but also for safety of the club house is ruined when NO ONE WHO WORKS THERE IS IN THE CLUB HOUSE. C’MON MAN.
But the course was good. Let’s not forget that. Just don’t expect to get any food during your round. Cart girl was around. Saw her twice. She was nice.
2 different 9s
Course has decent practice facility. Staff super friendly and helpful. The front nine is nothing to write home about and lots of crabgrass in the fairways Green's decent. Turn the back nine and you get a lot of wow factor if the front line match the back nine you might have a bucket Lister lots of water on the back cart girl every three holes super duper and friendly overall good experience need to just redesign the front nine and you got a gem.
Consistently Overbooked
I waited to review the course until I played it a few times to get a good idea of what to generally expect. This course is consistently overbooked. It seems as if there were foursomes going off every 5 or 6 minutes. The shortest round i have played there is 4 hours and 54 minutes. The last 2 times I've played the 18 took over 5 and a half hours. There is no Marshall to assist with pace of play unfortunately. That is my only complaint.
