Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Bang for the buck
The guy who checked us in was kinda grumpy, certainly did not like his job, But I loved the course for what we paid. Lay out is great, greens were good. Sand had some rough patches and upkeep is minimal. But this was just a decent course that doesn't drain your pocketbook. I'll be back.
Nice TRACK
I needed to find a course with th ight rate and time this fit just right. playing from the middle tees it offers some good holes, just not my favorite place to play
Great value
Played Riverside a number of times. It is one of the best values in DFW. Number 18 into the south wind is one of the toughest holes around. Pace is generally good during the week. Teed off at 12:20 and played in a little less than 4 hours on a Friday.
RIVERSIDE
Very challenging course along the Trinity River... well designed and very enjoyable. Look forward to my next round. Cost is reasonable.
Thank you for the kind comments/review! Please come back soon
Thank you for the kind comments. We look forward to your next visit to Riverside.
Mostly dead grass. Green needed to be rolled
Agreed with
"Greens are fast, but need to be rolled ... Cart GPS had not been updated for the pin placements"
Winter dead greens, but bumpy so really needed to be rolled!
No cart girl today, on a Friday afternoon. Course was not crowded but could not get any drink or beer at the turn ( beverage station was not opened).
We appreciate your feedback: Completely agree that the greens could be smoother. They have not actually gone fully dormant (which is unusual for winter) so, they are growing at irregular heights in some areas. We are now mowing the greens everyday so the smoothness should no longer be an issue. Due to the weather, it was a very slow day for us, so I did call off the Bev. Cart. On future trips, feel free to stop by the Clubhouse between 9 and 10 or, give us a call in Shop and we will be glad to run something out to you!
Thank you for the review - very much appreciated!
Great Course gone bad....
Booked a 2:40 tee time on Golf Now for as many holes as I could get in. No one working the 1'st tee so no control over the tee and the groups or on the course. Result was a 2.5 hour front nine. I've experienced worse, but didn't really need to - just no one managing the course or the tee sheet. Fairways are dormant, but relatively bare. Greens are fast, but need to be rolled. Pin placements today were hard to get at. Cart GPS had not been updated for the pin placements. Sand traps were not raked at all. This is still a great layout, but I don't see that much of an effort to maintain what was once an awesome layout. Sad, but for $21.65, it's worth the money....I guess.
Mr. Davis - I certainly appreciate your feedback and offer my sincere apologies for the less than great experience at Riverside. My name is Jay and I am the GM. Feel free to give me a call and we can discuss. Thank you 817.640.7800
Nice Course - Very Underrated
A cold, blustery day for golf. I was one of the few brave souls who thought golf was a good idea. The course was in amazing shape! Tees, fairways and greens were fabulous. Bunkers could have used a little work, due to the recent rains, but overall I was very impressed. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and there were some good specials on clothing in the clubhouse. The grill was limited and the food selection was limited to hot dogs, chips and packaged snacks. Despite the weather, I had a wonderful day, and will be back soon!!
Near the Airport
Very enjoyable course. Conditions were very wet from recent rains. It was cart trail only.
Nice track
Unfortunately had hackers in front playing from tips naturally. Too slow to really enjoy or get into a groove. Will try again...
Good To See Improvements Being Made
It's been at least a year since I last played Riverside. The course was in great shape, with smooth-rolling greens. The fairways were in good shape, but over-watered with soggy areas and standing water in some places. Riverside has greatly improved the sand bunkers. Before some of the bunkers were hard-packed dirt/sand, whereas now the bunkers are all sand. There were some holes with small piles of sand in the bunkers waiting to be spread.
Pace of play was good for about the first 5 holes, then we waited on every shot for the remainder of the round. Total time of play was about 4.5 hours, but it could have been 30 minutes less.
We saw the cart-girl 5 or 6 times during the round, which I considered often enough.
The gas-power carts are equipped with GPS which worked great for yardage. The cart did not have the small club/ball washer unit, which I think is a plus.
Overall, I was impressed with the course conditions, and seeing improvements being made. We will play Riverside again, soon.
Fun course. Fairways are pretty nice and greens a bit coarse but good.
I have been to this course years ago and it was a bit rough. It is much improved. Huge advantage to golf it a few times versus one time. Fairways are pretty nice and greens good. Strategy is important as positioning on the fairway helps a lot. You can lose balls easy if you start spraying your drives. Great course for the money.
Employee name Joe
The manager and Pro Jay is very friendly but one of his employee name Joe leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Joe is bad for business there. Due to his Demeanor, I cancelled my tee time right there on the spot. Don't love golf that much to endure joe's mis-handling.
Still in great shape. This course should be more popular
This is my go to course as it is close to my house. It's in great shape considering the time of year and what most courses should look like now. There are some "easy" holes and there are some deceptively hard holes. $20 after 4 is hard to beat.
Local course.
This local course has a great layout an plays well.
Greens are some of the best in DFW
Very good course conditions. Do not let the recent flooding scare you away.
Great course
Great course for the money. Great greens, awesome fairways, great staff, a must play!
Hot
Excellent fairways greens in great shape
Beware prior to making a tee time
This course had been shut down since November due to flooding. Then it changed management companies and opened for the spring a month and a half late. You would have thought they would have done all the work while they were closed and cleaning up, but there is a LOT of construction from sewage to cutting down trees. One Par 4 (15) is a Par 3 by tee'ing off at the 150 marker. The greens have been recently punched and they went too deep making grooves in the greens, no break on the balls. The day we went, they had severely over watered to the point the first tee was a marsh pit and we had to tee off illegally just to get a footing. At least the carts are fairly new, however the scorecard kept booting and loosing our scores. Such a beautiful course before and I hope it returns to the potential it could have.
We appreciate your feedback and kind comments. We do strive to provide a great experience at a good value to our guests.
