Legendary Oaks Golf Course
About
Legendary Oaks Golf Club is part of the Lawrence Marshall Family Recreation Center in Hempstead, about an hour northwest of Houston. Stretching to a lengthy 7,061 yards for the back tees, the course boasts several holes that long hitters will enjoy. The layout's par 3s are known to be particularly challenging. The golf course will put your distance to the test but you'll find that accuracy is also needed when negotiating the tighter spots on the course. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are also many strategically placed bunkers and mature trees to watch out for. Legendary Oaks Golf Club's final hole is a par 4 that demands a tee shot over water while a large willow tree guards the left side and a bunker protects the right. The challenges continue on the uphill second shot.

Greens and fairways
Greens were really bad and fairways plus they just threw a bunch of sand all over them to get them to grow back I guess. For that reason I give them a three star. Like if you know your greens are bad and you just covered them in sand then make it known to the people so people have the option to play on bad greens and lower the cost because of that. Charging people full price when you know your course is destroyed is messed up.
The greens have gotten a lot better with a new superintendent
The sand bunkers are still unplayable due to nonexistent drainage but the course has started work on them - there are far too many spots in the fairways without grass. - overall the improvement is very encouraging from a year ago - the greens are much improved
Waited just for me and I feel like a VIP
Arrived at the course on a windy and freezing cold weather. There was no car in the parking lot and no one playing golf on that day. Then I thought the course probably be closed. I grabbed the door handle of their club house just to confirm that the club house be closed. To my surprise the club house was opened and there was one lady at the club house asking me if I am Bryant and I nodded and let her know that I thought the course was closed and I was going to head back home. She then told me that I was the only person who made a reservation on that day and she couldn’t close the golf course because of my reservation. She further mentioned she would close the club house right after she checked me in and she actually did. Wow! At that moment, I felt like a VIP for them even if I am not. They would wait for me entire morning just to check me in. On that day, it was freezing cold and windy but I played the entire 18 holes all alone. It was very unique experience and I kept thinking about the course even when I was at home getting ready for my bed. I kept thinking this is why golf is the gentleman’s sport - I can always play alone and am surrounded by good people of golf community respecting rule of games and golf players who would spend their pre- or post-retirement leisure time with great pleasure and satisfaction.

Still in bad shape
We use to play here all the time until it went downhill. Not sure what changed. The greens are better than they were in the summer. In 2023 this course had the best greens considering the lack of rain. The fairways are soft but not close to being a "fairway". No cart girl. Overall this is the definition of a public course. The price attracts new golfers so the course play could be really slow. We got lucky and teed off before the 6 some did.
Decent shape
Compared to a year ago it’s in great shape. Still some work being done on the greens but it’s loads better than it was. And for $40 you can’t really beat it.
Good for the money
Driving in, you feel like you’re in the country- because you are. Entrance looked like in the 80s, this was a happenin’ place. I only tried the course. The range is off to the left of the clubhouse if you have time. Course tee boxes have distance, a map, and a Bible verse, which reminded me to appreciate the beauty of being outside, playing golf, and not working. And to watch my mouth the best I can.
Fairly wide open fairways on the 4s and 5s. 3s were also open and some had weren’t distance to them. Water at places to consider laying up or trying to carry with your driver. Had some work crews working, so made sure to keep an eye out - just in case my ball flies their direction.
Had a 5 some in front of us, but they were playing like there were 4 of them. Didn’t bother us a bit. Could have been a group of buddies that haven’t seen each other in years for all we knew. We had a group behind us too that weren’t pushing and taking their time too. All good!
Good prices on merch, stocked cold drinks, and free hot coffee.
Review
When we got there the staff was very friendly greeting us. The condition of the course was really good and the layout was pretty different it seemed to mainly play a fade. Which for a player who plays a draw made it pretty difficult. Moving on from that at about the six hole we got rained out, so we went to the clubhouse and with no questions asked they were very friendly and understanding and gave us a full eighteen hole rain check. Overall really enjoyed other than the rain really friendly staff definitely recommend.
Fall
New greenskeeper has been busy. Staff are friendly and helpful. You'll enjoy the round and be pleasantly surprised. Make a point to book a round. Enjoy!
Fall
Refreshed course, in really good shape. Great weather. Friendly staff. Looking forward to next visit.
Great transition. Was playing since before they first re did their greens and they are spectacular.
Getting better
They are finally improving the greens. Fairways have a lot of weeds.
Bathrooms are hideously awful. They need to have them cleaned once a week at least.
nice course, everything back
this course greens had problem early of this year and the summer due to the weather issue, but everything is back now. Still best price, very good layout.
Course is getting better
Went to visit legendary today 10/14, Overall a good course, you can see they are making an effort to get their course up to par to others.
Fairways were cut and easy to find your ball with actual grass, and the greens rolled well with a few brown patches on some holes but nothing to be mad about. Especially for a weekday rate is def not bad to get in 18. Will come back for another round.
Only thing I would comment on is the flag stick, it was a windy day so they were just leaning sideways instead of staying in their spot.
