Legendary Oaks Golf Course
About
Legendary Oaks Golf Club is part of the Lawrence Marshall Family Recreation Center in Hempstead, about an hour northwest of Houston. Stretching to a lengthy 7,061 yards for the back tees, the course boasts several holes that long hitters will enjoy. The layout's par 3s are known to be particularly challenging. The golf course will put your distance to the test but you'll find that accuracy is also needed when negotiating the tighter spots on the course. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are also many strategically placed bunkers and mature trees to watch out for. Legendary Oaks Golf Club's final hole is a par 4 that demands a tee shot over water while a large willow tree guards the left side and a bunker protects the right. The challenges continue on the uphill second shot.

Great golf. Horrible fairway and greens.
I love golfing here. But, the course conditions have deteriorated so bad. It’s really too bad. Overgrown, over watered. Greens keepers need some serious help.
Overhaul needed
Disaster conditions, has been this way for 2 years. Really needs to be place under TLC! Don’t waste your money until at least summer 2025
Poor Conditions
Didn't know the course was going to be in such disarray. Rough was just tall grass where u lose your ball instantly and greens are missing patches of grass completely.
Couldn’t have been any worse
To start with, we got there early to hit a few range balls in the covered area. All of the hitting mats were missing the rubber tee so you couldn’t drive from them. We got our cart, and before hole 2 we had to exchange it because of lack of maintenance. The entire course was over grown so bad that we were losing balls on the fairway. We haven’t had rain in over a week, and they have neglected to mow the course. The last time the course was mowed, it was mowed wet, and there was huge clumps of dead grass everywhere. Every single green that was open was so rough, that a slight putt would send the ball jumping left, right, and airborne. The temporary greens they have are even worse! They have holes that is literally just the fairway! In my opinion, this is the worst course I’ve ever played. I’ve been to legendary oaks a few times, and it’s definitely getting worse. This is definitely my last time booking a tee time at this course, it’s not worth what they are charging. When I went to the clubhouse to make a complaint, the worker looked at me, said sorry, and that was the end of the conversation.
Needs work, but fun layout
Course layout is interesting. Upkeep leaves a lot to be desired. 2/18 greens are in good shape. The rest are pretty rough. Greens feel like you are putting on the fairway. Good course to work on distances and irons. Some greens weren’t even worth putting on. With all that said, we will go back because it is cheap, people are friendly and course is challenging.
Golf Now needs to re-think their cancellation policy due to weather
Course was closed while we waited to play because of weather. Golf Now will not refund the money because we had started our round even though we were on the first hole.
Should be free
Area around the clubhouse could be used in a horror movie. Fairways are awful if you can hit it in the fairway. Rough is more like a jungle. Grass/ weeds were at least knee high. Maybe their mower broke??? 3 greens were ok. The rest were either full of weeds and bare spots or they used false greens. Yes… I was playing golf but $50 is way overpriced.
Bad
This place used to be decent for the price years ago. For some reason they think it’s worth 50dollars to play in terrible conditions. If you’re asking for that price then put in some work into the course instead of your pocket. It could be a good place but priorities are lost.
Horrible course conditions
I’ve played here a few times and it seems like the course conditions get worse and worse. Messed up greens, multiple temporary greens, fairways seemed like haven’t been mowed in a while. For the price paid and how the course is maintained save your money and play somewhere else.
I wish they'd sync something into this course
This course could be such a charming gem. Great layout, spacious practice facilities, so much potential. It doesn't live up to any of it right now. The condition is terrible, everything is run down. I'm not sure if they're trying harder with several temp greens but it seems like they have a random lawn guy taking of the course and facilities by himself.
Can’t see ball
Even in the fairways you couldn’t see your ball…
1/2 the fairways were the same cut as the 1st & 2nd rough, had to spend time locating your ball in the middle of the fairway because it was buried 2” down…
Also the Hay that was scattered everywhere made it next to impossible to see your ball a few times…
As for the scabbed up greens, that is what it is because it’s normally that way at legendary…
Definitely hasn’t been country club status in a while, but at minimum the fairways should have a definitive cut to them allowing you to see your ball …
I still love the course but y’all can do better
Local resident
Play there often. Course has so much potential but continues to go downhill!! The owners are not putting money back into upkeep!! Have played there for about 10 years as I live nearby. Every single amenity on the course has diminished. Greens, ball washers, signs, gazebos, borders! Everything out there looks more like ****, every time I go! The best green out there would maybe get a 5 out of 10, and 15 out of 18 holes I would give it a 1!!! Played this past Sunday and if you weren’t in the fairway, couldn’t find your ball because of high grass! The roughs that were mowed, looked like the mower was missing a blade! Had a 4:20 tee time and got to tee box at 4:18. There were two groups teeing off at the same time and one was a foursome of kids who were sharing clubs that we waited on for 18 holes!!!!! Going somewhere else!!!!!
Getting better
I have played this course 5 times in the last 8 months and I have always been disappointed. I will say the management is trying to make it better.
The greens are still in very bad shape, the fairways are like playing in the rough and the sand traps are mud pits.
The staff is very pleasant but there is a need for a stern marshal on the course.
Highly recommend a review of the course groundskeeping contract and spend a little on a cart person to sell refreshments on the course.
Looking forward to seeing this place mature and become the course of it’s potential.
Course conditions still an issue
I play Legendary alot. took some time off the past couple months and played yesterday for the first time in a while. Course conditions still poor. Not mowed. Greens still needing serious help. Really hope ownership can make the improvements needed. Green fees up as well.
Horrible
I have never requested a refund on a golf course in my entire life of playing golf. This golf course has got to be the worst golf course I’ve ever played in my entire life.
Go Somewhere Else
The layout of this course is good and it used to be a nice place to play. However, I suggest you go somewhere else. The fairways needed to be mowed and had clumps of grass from previous mowing. Most of the bunkers had grass and/or weeds growing in them. The greens were the worst part about this course. There were a couple of temporary greens that were tiny, hard as a rock, and the grass was worn bare. Several of the greens had loose sand on them making them almost un-puttable. Others had so many bare spots that there was no way the ball could roll true. The 2 or 3 greens that were in decent shape needed to be mowed.
Terrible shape
This course is in terrible shape and looks on the verge of shutting down but its been like this for years. Price is extremely high for the conditions. Maybe 2 greens on the whole course has areas that are puttable the rest are deviated to be nice about it. The rough is never cut so good luck finding ball if you do not hit the fairway. Mosquito are so thick due to lack of up keep that you can't hardly bare it. Its a shame this course is ran like it is. It has so much potential. The carts lets not get started. They do run but you'll see for yourself if you risk playing here. I suggest spending 20 more dollars and go somewhere great.
