About

Holes 18
Type Public/Municipal

Length 6015 yards
Slope 124
Rating 69.1

Another of Houston's old-school golf courses, Hermann was built by John Bredemus and became the playground of Tommy Bolt, Jack Burke, Jr., and Jimmy Demaret, among others. After shutting down in 1997 for extensive renovations, the facility has become one of the finest municipals in the Harris County area.

Today you'll encounter prominent fairway mounding and huge, multi-tiered greens. The best hole is No. 13, a 458-yard par 5 that doglegs right. While short, the hole requires strategy with a set of trees in the fairway.

Getting there : Take I-45 south from Houston and roll down Hwy. 288 south. Exit McGregor Dr. and turn right. The entrance is on the right.

Decent Public Course

First time on here was a little confusing but the staff was very helpful. Navigation around the course was difficult but we understood it after hole 3. Definitely a course I will come back to because it around the heart of houston.

A Watery grave

If you want underprivileged kids to play this course, fill in some of the lakes /ponds. I played this course years ago before whomever runs it now, they have taken away the charm by digging too many ponds on this course. Granted it needed some touching up but the ponds will eat up a beginners golf balls by the 9th hole! The redesign left no bale outs on the water holes. Go over or in the water! There is absolutely no design to this layout now. Kids won’t have enough golf balls to make a full round. It’s all risk and no reward. Sucks too because the old course was a nice place to play and learn. Won’t ever come back. Suffered 3 penalty shots because of the water in play. Still broke 80 (78).

Course is Fine

Herman park is well maintained and a decent Municipal course. Fairways are very narrow and the course layout is very narrow. Constantly people hitting onto the wrong fairway.

Pace of play was very slow

Needs Love and Staff

First off the course is poorly staffed on weekends. The guys there are great and nice but the stack tee times 4-5min apart and it kills the whole day. The course is tight and usually has the poorest skill level of golfers in town compared to Gus or Memorial so many stray balls. When they pack groups 4-5min apart it’s slow slow play and lots of danger. Also, the course is in the worst shape of all the munis. This course needs either better managers or more people/resources. It’s a very short course, if you usually play the blues or whites you’re still better off on the tips because how short it is. It would be a more fun course if it were in tremendously better condition and used 7-9 min group spacing because the skill level of the players is too low for anything less.

On the weekdays however it is a much more fun course because it can be VACANT. Memorial will always have a full course but if you want to play on mon-wed you can often play as a single!

Great value for the money

At $12 senior walking fee, you can’t beat this value for the money. Great layout, friendly staff. Depending on the season, the course can be in top condition.

Over priced concrete course

If you like golf avoid Herman Park the course is so bad it’s like playing of concrete . If you love your clubs spare them the damage this course will cause . Way over priced for the worst course in Houston I would rather play the course that closed a year ago

Amazingly Good

Fairways were like playing off plush carpet. Greens were quite slow only because of the recent rains and had not been cut
