Rating 71.8

From the fairways of Irving (formerly known as Twin Wells), you can see the skyline of downtown Dallas–a nice aesthetic for this fun, user-friendly municipal. The course is mostly an open, links-style design, although a few holes that roll along the Trinity River favor a traditional-style on the back nine.

Hole 3 stands out on the front: a 437-yard dogleg left that is protected by fairway bunkers. On the back, No. 11 is the most difficult–another long par 4 at 451 yards.

Getting there : From Hwy. 183 east, take Loop 12 south and exit Shady Grove Rd. Turn left, drive a short distance to the course, look for the clubhouse on the right side of the street.

Enjoyable course to play

The course was in good shape considering it is August and the temperature was over 100 the day that I played. The course is moderately difficulty from the white tees, and challenging from the blue tees.

Nice course.

The course was adequately maintained except for the sand traps. The greens and tee boxes were in good shape. I liked the course. The holes are spaced out so that you do not encounter other golfers even on errant drives. Nice variety of challenging holes and a couple of relatively easy ones. The clubhouse is nice. The clubhouse was understaffed (as one person ran the whole operation), though we never had to wait for service.

Hard Ground and Standing Water

Twin Wells is convenient to central metroplex not too far from old Texas Stadium. I found the fairways and greens pretty hard - yes, that does lead to some good rolls of the ball. The grass in general looked unkempt and basically ignored.
With the West Nile concerns, I would be worried about the standing water around #2, the bridge on #7, and a few other places.
The course was fairly unoccupied when I last was there, so pace of play was as fast as I wanted to play.
I enjoy the group of holes on the back that are away from the main piece of land - that tempting little par 4 sucks me in most every time I have played there.
I'll probably be back just because it's so convenient and the hot tee times are so reasonable - but, I wouldn't go out of my way to play it.

This course is meant for average golfers.

The course was in good shape with some standing water on the fairways and bunkers. I would definitely bring repellent because the mosquitoes are bad. It had rolling fairways and fairway bunkers to add to the difficulty. It is a very open course with multiple water hazards but definitely open enouph for various swings. The greens were fast in the morning but as the dried it slowed down. Also the greens were average on difficulty. In all it was a good course to play and I would play again when I return to Texas.

Stay away from Twin Wells

I played this course last week, and was very disappointed.

To start with, the staff at the clubhouse was quite rude. Since it was cloudy, I inquired about the procedure if we get rained out. The desk clerk dismissed my question by saying it wasn't going to rain. We could hear the thunder already. I asked again, but the clerk replied with a rude “we’ll see.”

The course itself needs quite a bit of work. The grass looked like it had not been mowed for several weeks. Watch out for mosquitoes.

The final insult came when we finished the 11th hole. A staff member came by to ask us which car we were driving. It turns out that my friend's car had been broken into at the Twin Wells parking lot. After filing the police report, my friend went to talk to the staff in the clubhouse. No consolation or apology. Not even an offer for a free nine holes to make up for having to cut short our game due to the break in that occurred on their property.

Also, the police, as well as other staff, told us that break ins to vehicles happen regularly there. Though, according to the police and staff that had stopped in the last three months, it seems like that break ins may be back. There is no video surveillance, and the parking lot is freely accessible from the street and a public park.

Stay away!

Twin Wells is So So at Best

Twin Wells has been a course that a friend of mine keeps wanting me to play, so I ventured out on a weekday. The front 9 leaves a little to be desired from conditions to layout. The course is in the Trinity River bottoms so the turf conditions were poor. The only saving grace is that the beck 9 layout is much better than the front.

COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!!!!

I could write a short novel with all my complaints but I only get so much typing space.
Course location: The course might as well been in Oakcliff
Course condition: If you like playing on construction sites, swamplands, and ground hard enough to be concrete your in luck.
Staff: Uncaring, we complained about a very slow group that let no one play through and the "marshall" did nothing to help the situation, which resulted in 4 different groups waiting to play the 18th.
All and all today I payed 41 dollars to walk the last piece of blackland prairie in the country, eat an overcooked hot dog, and to roast in the sun waiting on a group half the size of ours.
You couldn't pay me to play here again. 5 hours of my life I can never get back.

Pleased with the location of hazards....be careful striking the ball on hard ground!

This is a challenging coure. However, I wasn't prepared for the foul smell that lingered across parts of the course. Wastemanagement facility? At anyrate, I nearly injured my wrist when swinging my irons. I had to strike the ball carefully because the hardness of the ground. I was impressed with the location of the sand traps. It kept me in check managing the greens.

They could be watered a little more often

Not going back

Course is in horrible condition. Constantly stuck behind groups with more than 4 people in them. Looked like the minimal amount of maintenance done on course. Dirt bike track nearby.
