Rating 71.8

From the fairways of Irving (formerly known as Twin Wells), you can see the skyline of downtown Dallas–a nice aesthetic for this fun, user-friendly municipal. The course is mostly an open, links-style design, although a few holes that roll along the Trinity River favor a traditional-style on the back nine.

Hole 3 stands out on the front: a 437-yard dogleg left that is protected by fairway bunkers. On the back, No. 11 is the most difficult–another long par 4 at 451 yards.

Getting there : From Hwy. 183 east, take Loop 12 south and exit Shady Grove Rd. Turn left, drive a short distance to the course, look for the clubhouse on the right side of the street.

Mosquito Infested Swamp

Horribly maintained course in the lowest elevation of Irving. Water was standing on almost the entire course and it hadn't rained in several days. This led to the mosquitos swarming the entire course and at time making a hole unplayable. Beyond that the fairwas were full of dirt patches and poorly cared for grass, the rough was nothing but dirt and weeds, and the bunkers looked like cement pits. Won't book again.

Mosquito problem

Th course was infested with Mosquitos and it was not even enjoyable to play. They need to spray immediately.

Not bad

Course was ok. The a fairways were really dry. For a beginner it's challenging but fun and for a season golfer it would be real fun as I think you could get some low scores.

this course needed a lot of work

It seem like that hadnt watered the course at all or they are watering the course at the wrong time. It had alot of burnt spots were you can tell the sun is killing the grass and alot of the course needed to be mowed. The sand bunkers were mud not sand. The only thing that was decent was the greens. I shot an 85 but could of shot lower but the grass was so tall in some areas you could see where it landed after a drive and get to where you see it landed and couldnt find the ball. I see now why it was only $10 on golfnow.

Glad I got a deal

My original tee time at another course interfered with my schedule, so I found Twin Wells had a >50% off deal so I bought it. Immediate impressions: I was very disappointed with the outdated clubhouse, broken stall in the restroom and the "driving range" had grass so high you could never tell where the ball landed. The course itself was very dry and needed a ton of maintenance. It had been 5 days since it had rained, and almost every bunker still had water/mud in it. The chances of me going back again are very slim.

Good value

This course represents a good value. I will likely play again. The only issue was the pace of play, we were on our way to a more than five hour a round when I needed to go to meet another obligation.

The staff was very pleasant But plan ahead there was no cart girl service.

Course gone downhill

Grew up in Irving and played this course many times. Haven't been here in a long time and was sad to see this course has went way south. Nothing more than a hackers course now...which is fine but I always thought this course had potential I be nice at one time.

Wide Open

The course to me felt as though it was built for the true weekend duffer. Not a bad thing. It was quite easy to miss the fairway and still have an easy shot at green. However... The greens were in poor shape and the fairways were below average. The staff is amazing. But there are courses for the same price that offer a better golf experience.

good value

This is a challenging golf course with a good layout but has not been well maintained. The fairways are in pretty rough condition as well as the rough areas. The greens were in fair condition for this time of year and the ball rolled pretty true on most greens. That being said it is a fun course to play with some challenging holes combined with some fun holes to play.

Why all the Dallis Grass?

As I have played this course many times I am always surprised by the difficulty of the lay out. But what makes it even more challenging is the fairway conditions. As the partner I was playing with pointed out, this would be a great course except for two things: the dried patches on the greens and the weeds that are taking over the fairway. On certain holes it is difficult to tell the difference between the fairway and the rough. It obviously frustrated one golfer, who had driven a cart in to a greenside bunker. Disappointingly, the staff had done nothing to clear up the still visible track that were left by said golf cart.

Spend the extra $8

This course is where I played in high school. When I saw the deal on GN I thought it was a steal. This course was never a private country club, but it had good greens and fairways. It is evident that the mgmt has let that slip.

Weeds everywhere, large bald patches, the fairway plays as hard as concrete on most holes and the greens are in terrible condition. I know it seems like I am piling it on, but the course is a waste of your time. Spend the extra $8-10 to go somewhere that takes care of their course.

Course needs a lot of work. Fairways are non existence and greens are hard. Wouldn't pay more than twenty to play here.

lots of trenches

Fairways are like playing in an open field that was mowed. Ground/Fairways are hard so your ride is really hard on you. Greens were fast. Price was great. Not a busy day at all. It was Easter Sunday. Great price.

Bad Shape

The course wasn't in good shape, they needed to water it . The green where in bad shape I have never seen this course this bad before. The staff was great, but someone needs to get the course backup to speed.

Won't go back

We reserved our time tee as a double. When we got to the course they told us we would be paired up with another double. We have never been to a course where they force you to be paried. We decided not to play and will not book a tee time at this course again.

We play doubles also. I have yet to visit a course that does not pair you up if it's a busy day. Even in Arkansas.

Much Work Needed

I was starting to write a very lengthy review of this course but realized that most of those type of reviews get overlooked for short-hand information. This is my experience of the course in the shortest possible manner I could achieve:

The layout of the holes was the best attribute for this course. Well placed natural hazards and the sense of getting away from the city was quite enjoyable. However, the conditions of the course were TERRIBLE. Some holes were drenched in water, others were like hitting off of dried mud. But ALL of the holes were littered with beer cans and cigarette butts among other various pieces of garbage. The greens weren't terrible but many lower end courses have much better. I understand this is a municipal course and those don't usually have the funding like other courses but much of the problems with this course is simply labor; picking up trash, fishing the water hazards for beer cans and other trash, removing dead brush from water hazards and fairways, pulling weeds, proper watering. On hole 4, my friend and I saw what looked like human feces and toilet paper lying in the fairway, though neither of us wanted to get close enough to find out. Even if it wasnt what we expected, there was still tons of animal waste lying around the course, this particular area was much different from the others we saw though. The staff was friendly although not much of a 19th hole. My final impression was that this course lacked simple and cheap renovations like removal of trash and proper watering of the holes. The grounds crew could easily make this course beautiful with just a couple weeks of hard work and attentiveness. And if they do happen to practice these measures, then it is a shame that the locals and regulars would treat ANY golf course this way. Its hard to say what runs this course into the ground but it is easy to say "stay away". i only payed $10 for my round and I will never pay even that again to play this course until some big changes occur. I take no pleasure in bad reviews as this, it was just that bad.
