Stonetree Golf Club
About
Jay Riviere built this course in the 1970s to offer a non-military alternative for golf in Killeen. The conditions have improved since the updated irrigation system was installed in the 1990s, and the greens are known for consistently being in solid condition. The course has been renovated in 2005 by Lee Singletary. You’ll face a good combination of tee shots at this course, with both narrow and wide fairways.
Start off with some patience, if you can survive the more difficult front nine, you’ll be confident and in good position for a low round when you face the easier back nine.
Getting there : From I-35 north, take Hwy. 190 west and exit FM 2410. Turn right and look for Roy Reynolds Dr. Turn right again and look for the course on the left side of the road.

Poor conditions
Greens heavily sanded and aerated currently. Poor putting conditions.
Recently lost a groundskeeper I understand and the rough areas are really rough. The fairways are in really good shape. Greens not so much
Unreliable Carts / Horrible Traps / Unmown Greens
Wasn’t able to finish our round as the 1st cart died after hole 6 and the replacement cart provided died after hole 14. The traps are absolutely atrocious as they are unkeot with huge rocks. The greens appeared to be 3 days in between mowings. Nobody was in the club to answer the phone when our second cart died after hole 14. I would not recommend this course to other golfers. Avoid if possible.
Hard Rock Baron Traps / Shaggy Greens / Horrible Uncharged Carts
Played Stonetree with a friend from Temple Texas last evening…unfortunately didn’t get to play our round as our first cart died on hole 7 and the replacement cart died on hole 14. Neither cart operated correctly. When our second cart died we called the club with no answer - the phone calls were automatically directed to a remote third party reservation service. I flagged down a worker who was a few holes away. He took me back to the clubhouse and I then drive my vehicle to the backside of the course to pickup my playing partner. When I told the employee I intend to call the club for a refund he indicated the club management does not care and that I would not receive a favorable reply. He suggested the best path of action is to accurately review the course via GolfNow. I would not recommend this course to any fellow golfers. Very bad experience that fell significantly short of reasonable expectations.
Horrible Bunkers / unmown greens / absolutely appalling carts
First time playing this track. Our cart dued on hole 7. The second cart provided died on hole 14. Tried to call the club several times - no answer and the phone kept rolling over to a reservation service in another state. Luckily found an employee on the course who had checked me into the course in the clubhouse. He took me back to the clubhouse. No other carts were available so I drove my car bsck to pick up my golf partner. I informed the employee I intend to call the club manager the following morning and he point blank told ne “they don’t care”. Please don’t waste your time. With this course.
Pace of play
I’ve played this course many times in the last year, with my son in law. I like the pro shop staff and the course is in pretty good shape. The last 3 or 4 times we’ve played, the pace of play is horrendous. There are no marshals anywhere to be seen, so the pace has no monitoring. Also, this is a Troon represented course. I’ve played many Troon courses and Stonetree doesn’t come close to a Troon level course.
Sloooow
Teed off at 10:15. Front nine was in good condition. However, it took 2 hours 35 minutes to play the front nine. Never saw a Marshall. Number 10 had 3 groups waiting, so we left. I will stay away for the weekends, but go back during the week.
Great course
Great course to play. However the greens could use some work. Ground crew is awesome, they were cleaning debris from the storm.
No pro here.
Other than slow pace of play by several patrons, and the greens being aerated and sanded, the course was in good condition. Bunkers are playing as ground under repair. (Not a deal breaker) I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to play and not pay an arm and a leg. Nice place. Will definitely be going back.
Best for the $
Although this was the worst shape I’ve seen the course, you still can’t beat the price. It’s the most consistent course in the Killeen, HH, Belton area at that cost. Typically the greens and fairways are in better shape. The staff has always been extremely friendly.
Not so good
The greens are in poor condition. The pace of play was terrible. It used to be much better than this.
